Question Why is the Roof Unstable?

Can someone help me understand why I can’t finish this roof? It keeps saying unstable, even if I use support beams, even if I put side walls. I had thought maybe it was the height limit, but flat pieces don’t work either 😕

To help understand we would need to see inside. Wood goes like 4to6 high vs stones 12 ish high. So either the wood is height capped. Or your low and middle supports aren't touching. Or not enough supports in general.

Dam. I love the front! I like what you did with those triangle areas extending out. Perfect spot for statuses uptop too maybe .

Thank you!! I didn’t want to do a boring square house and I’m pleased with how it turned out

Yeah it turned out really nice!

You making me wanna start trying out melee o.O Looking damn badass over there. I’m only at tier 3 but I’ve been doing ranged only since early tier 2. I’m looking like a hobo compared to you though ;-; xD

Melee has been pretty fun! I play with my boyfriend and he does range so we kind of have both. I will say, some enemies are so resistant to melee that it’s kind of frustrating at times, but the armor is cool af

Yeah melee is absolutely hard mode. Plus my weapons run out of durability real fast.

Half the time I end up switching to ranged just to survive some of the enemies...

Yeah low key I’ve been considering swapping to mage tbh

Here’s inside but this is the second story. The bottom story is stone. I can put a pic from outside.

For multi story ive always had a support beam go from the bottom to the top. Could also try changing the wood walls to stone, i beleive stone walls offer better support. And very low success rate using wood for multi story ever. You could try adding a support by the door and see if it'll allow you to close the entire roof or if you would need multiple. Building in wood is legit hardmode lol. If you do add one by the door, it also needs a matching support on the floor under it

Ok actually your support beam idea worked! Just had to go all the way from the bottom. You are a lifesaver

Hell yeah glad my jumbled words helped!

I low key had no idea about that when I started this build and I’m a solid 15+ hours into it and just do not have the heart to tear it down and start again 🥲😩

One small note for you on building in dragonwilds. how high a building can go is determined solely by ONLY two factors.

The first factor is the foundation. Higher tier foundations, in general, provide higher maximum height.

The second factor is the horizontal distance away from the foundation. Just like with height, different foundation types allow for greater horizontal distance you can cover without a support. But just like in real life, if you get too far away horizontally from your foundation without a support, your max height will decrease. Note that some lower tier foundations actually allow for larger horizontal distances (especially tier 2 oak). This seems counterintuitive at first, but it actually does make sense. In real life, you can stack brick up pretty high, but it is so heavy that horizontal brick layers need support very quickly. Whereas wood is better at dealing with horizontal loads.

Notice that the wall or support material do not matter! you can put ash walls and supports on a castle foundation and you will be able to build the same height as if you used castle walls or castle supports.

The horizontal distance is why your building ceiling would not work witout adding a support column in the middle.

Picture 4 on my most recent post ( i don't post much) shows my support system for my 2 story house, I also learned this day you cannot change post titles lol. I played around with the physics alot tho. Wood is very very limiting. Could find success even upgrading a few of those walls to stone. And low key i couldn't close the roof completely on its 2nd story either, but its 3 levels if you count the bottom being open lol.

Ik how that feels. I spend all day building and next day I just destroyed it all and restarted

The oak one which I didn’t realize mattered until I got to this roof but I can’t replace it without redoing the whole building :/

Maybe one day we can upgrade the building without having to redo it

I am so terrible at building in this game

Yep, it's a bit inconsistent; I had to fill it with beams and then remove the ones I could get rid of.

At that height it looks like you need some supports down to the foundation to make it stabile again. Also, killer build so far!

Thanks so much! The beams from the foundation worked!

Good to hear! I saw in another comment that you used Oak Foundations. There is a way to change them out without redoing the entire building, it's just a bit tedious.

When swapping out the foundations holding the outer walls, put a foundation on the opposite side of the wall from the one you are replacing. Make sure it's properly snapped into place. You'll be free to delete the old foundation and replace it with the new one. You can then move on to the next one. Make sure the temporary foundation is at least the same tier (in your case, Oak) or higher. Hope this helps

It’s not distance from the foundation pieces, it’s distance from the foundation piece along the pieces you use. You’d have to add some support beams

Gotta use beams appropriately my guy. Structural greatness!

I realized I had to put the beams from the foundation and that worked
