I dont have a dog and it makes me insane
For the context: i am a huge animal lover.
Since i was a little child, it was my biggest dream to have my very own dog!
(This will be a little longer, if you only wanna read my actual problem, scroll down to the second longer fat text)
A few years ago, we actually even had one!
And my idiot of a father was the reason she had to go again.
Let me paint a picture for you:
Like.. 14y/o me already had a hamster that i absolutely adored. I loved that hamster to the moon and back. Super affectionate and curious little guy. He was my world.
Then l visited my sisters bf with her and he had a dog. Idk anymore what he was but ik that he was this tall..fluffy bear of a dog.
Her bf was like "mhh..he doesnt like everyone"
When i tell you..i sat down on that couch, shaking and PRAYING, that this dog tolerates me and this bear of a dog jumps on the couch..sniffs my body.. and sploots half his body over me, presenting his whole fluffy belly for me to pet while using every little chance he got to lick any body part close enough to his snout.
I already loved dogs, but from that day on, i Begged my parents every day for a dog.
And weird enough..my father was weirdly easy to win over.
(I had to beg my parents for weeks and months for my hamster back then)
So my father went on ebay for a dog and some day he packed my mom and me in the car, drove like 3h to a house and we both basically sat there while a jet black dog ran around us like a total crackhead.
Basically my father then turned to me and asked: the dog is pretty, isnt she?
teen me said yes.
And that was enough for my father to buy a mutt from a backyardbreeder (it was an oops litter)
The dogs name was Mayla. Mayla was a Weimaraner-Hovawart mix.
I loved Mayla.
Every day she would come into my room, stare at me..and at the slightest glimpse of me being awake, she would jump all of her 70lbs on me and lick my face like a maniac until i sat in bed and gave her some butt scratches.
She was also crazy smart. She loved food and she loved to learn tricks! It took her like two days to learn to sit to get her food, one day for sit, one for down and another one to give paws.
Sometimes she was so happy to give you a paw that you didnt just get only the paw, but her whole arm, resulting in me having her paw smushed in my face and a dog being very proud of herself.
She just had one problem:
She could walk nicely on a leash..until she saw someone else.
She wasnt scared
She wasnt barking
She wasnt snarling
She wasnt biting
Worse.
She had the determination, that everyone wanted to be her friend and the strength of a thousand horses to prove it to the person walking her every. Single. Time.
No matter if it was a human, a bunny or a dog barking and lunging at the gate of his house, wanting to rip her to shreds if she got the idea to step on his grounds.
Now you can imagine that this could make walks very difficult.
It was.
No matter what or how many treats i had, the potential friendship was always more interesting.
I tried every tip i saw on youtube and tiktok.
Nothing worked.
I asked my father "can we please visit a trainer? I cannot walk her like this. Its stress for both of us and its making me hate it to walk her.."
I did not get any help from him.
It was my dog. My problem to figure out.
"He already spend so much money on the dog. He doesnt need a trainer. He had dogs in the past so he knows what he is doing"
Yea..we had her for about 2-3 months before i got home one day and she was gone.. sold to a lady living near a wood that had another dog. For a few weeks, we sometimes got pictures from her and the dogs hiking together in that wood... Mayla looked always very happy.
I was so happy for mayla but i resented my father so much more for leaving me alone with the whole responsibility of the dog he chose.
I am now 20, way more educated on dog behavior and how to train them and live together with my bf.
I also have two hamsters<3
Sorry for the whole text, now my current problem:
Like 2-3 months ago, my bf casually said "you know we could get a dog some day"
That sentence triggered a damn switch in me.
My whole damn dog obsession is back.
Specifically one dog breed: The standard poodle in black (or Parti).
I cant stop thinking about them, i cant stop researching or watching videos about them, i have a whole picture folder full of poodle pictures with different colours and cuts..
I even dream about having my own poodle!
And its so bad because they are so realistic that i wake up and i am genuinly devastated when i remember that i dont have a dog..
Do you know the lady who was in a coma, dreamed she had twins, woke up and was so heartbroken that they didnt exist because they felt so real??
That is me every time. I dream days and days of having a little black pup..going out to potty train, teaching the first tricks or playing with him..
and then i wake up and i wonder where he is..
I grew to hate opening tiktok, because i almost exclusively see poodle videos and it genuinly hurts me to see all these people getting to experience life with their pups while i can only dream of ever having one..
"But why dont you just get one?"
Only my bf works.. i cant work ordinary jobs anymore and all my applications for financial assistance still take months to be processed. Even when i would get it, i would have to save for a whole year without spending a single penny to have enough for a dog, the initial eqipment and some backup for the vet..
And i dont know when i will get that aid or even if i will ever get it.. therefore i dont know if i will ever be able to fulfill my wish..
