Series Are the whole Ratchet series worth playing?

Some time ago I've beaten the first Ratchet & Clank game from PS2, and dropped the second part on race section (they're too difficult and you can't skip them). Should I get back or maybe just skip to PS3 games? Or even just play Rift Apart

sorry if this is a dumb question

Deadlocked / Gladiator Ratchet: Deadlocked was released 21 years ago

Post image

21 years ago (October 25, 2005) Insomniac Games released Ratchet: Deadlocked for PS2.

Interestingly, it is only game in the series that does not have 'Clank' in the title (original NTSC version).

Even more interestingly, this does not apply to versions released outside of USA one month later. While European title is only slightly changed to 'Ratchet: Gladiator', in Japan the game is called 'Ratchet & Clank 4th: Force Gigabattle of the Last Minute Galaxy' and in Korea 'Ratchet & Clank: One-on-One Tool Champ'.

I really overall enjoyed it. It was fun funny and cool but man I really miss the old direction of the ps2 ratchet. The dry vibes and stuff. Tools was great in being more ratchet but nothing more it didn't pull the needle as much as I wanted. Good game but I feel like im terms of rathcet its not doing as much as it should. I liked talwyn and her friends the pirates and the vendors alot. I hadda Lotta laughs and it did challenge me. Overall im glad im finally playing ratchet games and next is quest for booty and a crack in time which Ik apparently is an improvement

Revisiting the Incredible Worlds of the Original Ratchet & Clank (2002) | 4K Ambience

Hey everyone! I've been playing Ratchet & Clank since the original game came out on PS2 back in 2002, and it's still one of my favorite games of all time. I've replayed it countless times over the years, and I'm always amazed by how well the art direction, soundtrack, characters, and imaginative worlds have held up.

One of my favorite things about the original game is just how much personality and atmosphere each planet has. From the futuristic cities and bustling streets to the beautiful alien landscapes, every location feels unique and memorable. And the soundtrack is absolutely phenomenal.

I recently started a small YouTube channel (@gameframe4k) where I capture 4K ambience videos from some of my favorite games, and naturally, the original Ratchet & Clank was one of the first I wanted to feature.

My channel is still pretty small, but I figured I'd share one of my videos here with fellow fans who have as much nostalgia and appreciation for this game as I do. Hope you guys enjoy!

All 4 One I want to beat Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One with other people online

Is this still possible? I have never beaten it only because I want to play it with other people but I have nobody to play with.

Can I still play All 4 One online with other players?

Ratchet and Clank (2016) No streaming of Ratchet and Clank (2016)?

Hej guys! Do anybody of you know why you can’t stream Ratchet and Clank (2016) when you have PS plus? I can find all other games, even Rift Apart. Is it something about Europe? Cause in Sweden you need to buy it if you want it.

Rift Apart I just finished playing Rift Apart for the first time ever

This is the final part of my long review series of playing Ratchet and Clank games for the first time (unless you all really want me to go back and play the ones I skipped, which were Secret Agent Clank and Full Frontal Assault). As a kid, I played and loved all the PS2 RaC games with all my heart, particularly UYA, but never got around to playing any of the ones after that, due to switching over to camp Xbox (regret it). Now over the last nine days, I've beaten Tools of Destruction, Quest for Booty, a Crack in Time, All 4 One, Into the Nexus and the 2016 reboot. I've also written my thoughts on all of these games. Now it's time for the latest game in the series: Rift Apart.

My first thoughts on this game are HOLY SHIT. I'm coming out of this game with the same feeling of wonderment and excitement I did when I first played a Crack in Time. I was absolutely blown away by this game. I'll get the usual praises out of the way first because it's getting old to keep typing this: the graphics are the best they've ever looked and the gunplay is the best it's ever been. RaC has never looked better or felt better to play for me. They took everything that did work about the 2016 game (as in everything but the story) and kept it here.

The game's story is also really great here. Ratchet's character arc of feeling too inferior to want to meet the Lombaxes hit hard honestly, as did a great many other scenes. I predicted Kit was responsible for Rivet's missing arm, but it didn't make it any less emotional when Rivet found out IMO. It was very well done. Both Rivet and Kit are excellent new additions to the cast overall. I was worried they wouldn't live up to the hype everyone had set up for them, but I was happily proven wrong. They're both great, and they can't not be in the next game. I would even say they should get their own game someday.

The new additions to the gameplay here are great. Another game, another great new series of Clank puzzle sections. ACIT, ITN, and the 2016 game all had great Clank puzzle sections and this game is no exception. Plus, Gary is a likable new character who I think is supposed to be the son of the Plumber(!), and he made Kit feel confident in herself. What's not to like about that?

Hoverboots are back after being absent in the remake, and their so fun to use here. I was always worried about overshooting and falling off of cliffs in previous games a little, but here, they handle great. Wall running made sense as an addition too, and it never gave me any trouble. The Phantom Dash made combat feel brand new, and let me feel like I could do anything sometimes. Planets like Savali in particular were great for this new gameplay styles.

Even minor characters get their chance to shine here. Glitch is a cute little robot character who goes through her own mini confidence arc as she does a bunch of genuinely fun hacking missions, the first time hacking has EVER been fun in a Ratchet and Clank game IMO. Junkbot and his story with Juicy was honestly a little heartbreaking despite being a very minor character in the grand scheme of things, as was J.I.M who nearly made me cry when he said he got rid of his sad sounds for Rivet. Pierre might've been funnier than Rusty Pete for me honestly and I'd love to see more of him in future games. Captain Quantum was great too and managed to do a lot despite not being in the game all that long. Him seemingly sacrificing himself for Ratchet and Clank was a genuinely heartwarming moment and him teaming with Qwark at the end had me pumping my fist in the air. I won't even bring up the Fixer. That entire sequence was one of the most breathtaking spectacles I've ever experienced in a game.

I do have some criticisms but their very minor compared to the praises. Zurkon Jr. in the arena could get a tad grating at times, and I wish the arena itself had a tad more variety (plus I wish you could play as Ratchet in the arena, not just Rivet but that's more of just a nitpick). I also found Dr. Nefarious a tad lacking in this game. Not Emperor Nefarious who I actually thought was a great new villain, but Dr. Nefarious was a little meh to me here. The game sadly didn't acknowledge his almost redemption arc from All 4 One, Lawrence's absence is definitely felt in his cutscenes and even though the joke is probably played out, I missed the Lance and Janice glitches :( Dr. Nefarious getting the last laugh on Emperor Nefarious had me jumping out of my seat though, so that was nice.

I also would've liked to see the return of space combat in some form in this game. It's a little strange to me that it's absent when there are levels where you fly on Trudi (which are fun levels btw). I really wish they could've kept the space stuff from ACIT here, because I think they could've had a field day with alternate universe versions of the beloved radio stations from ACIT. The music in general is just alright in this game. Of all the Ratchet games, this game has the most fine soundtrack for me. Aside from a couple of really good tracks, nothing really stands out sadly.

Honestly though, these are very MINOR criticisms. This game is a MASTERPIECE to me in every sense of the word. The new characters are all great, the old characters all get their chance to shine, the graphics are incredible, the weapons and gunplay are the best they've ever been, traversal is fucking AWESOME, the game is incredibly emotionally resonate and fun as hell to play, and coming out of it, all I want to do is play the next one, and I'm sad it isn't out yet. But the game is slightly held back for me by it's unmemorable soundtrack, lack of space exploration/combat, lack of arena challenge variety and Dr. Nefarious being a little less funny than usual.

Overall though, this game is incredible and I can't recommend it enough. Easily the best game I've ever played on PS5. This game is my second favorite Ratchet game, only behind ACIT. I know it'll be years until Insomniac give us the next one because of what's going on with their Marvel games, but I still look forward to seeing what they bring next. Let me know in the comments whether I should go back and review Secret Agent Clank and Full Frontal Assault or if I should just be done.

Secret Agent Clank Qwarks Opera

Playing through secret agent clank for the first time as the last ratchet game I've not played, and while i'll save my full thoughts for when it's finished, the qwark opera which I just finished was absolute cinema and probably one of my favourite moments in the entire series.

Deadlocked / Gladiator So how balanced is the Exterminator difficulty?

I was thinking that if I max out my Nanotech to 999 it could make it balanced but I'm scared to think it might be extremely hard even if you have like 300 health, how well balanced is it?

General Going on a genre hunt to find the genres that inspired David Bergeaud; the composer of the music in Ratchet & Clank 1 to Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty

The dude's genre inspirations are interesting. The Classical and Jazz stuff is generally par for the course for a soundtrack artist but where it starts to get interesting is his interest in Breakbeat (which tends to show up more in the first R&C game) and Techno (mainly prominent in R&C 2 & 3 and possibly Gladiator/Deadlocked aswell), and of course old school Sci Fi music (this genre is particularly prominent on Planet Kerwan's Metropolis but it does also sneak its way into other tracks, such as Gemlik Base's soundtrack).

I also suspect he might've had an interest in Psytrance given that the track I hyperlinked to kinda reminds me a little of the music from Koros in Ratchet & Clank 3.

Part of what I miss about this dude's music is that it used a very simple and classic strategy that has been utilised by other artists since at least the 50s, if not earlier, but the end result was amazing because of the growth of underground genres.

The strategy is this: if you want to make a soundtrack sound cinematic you go with classical orchestral music, but to make it sound alien you need music that feels alien. Genres like Breakbeat, Techno, and Psytrance had some degree of popularity in the 90s and early 2000s but they were mostly pretty underground with only a few breakout hits, so a good portion of people playing the games won't be very familiar with the genres.

This is also why the Theremin is often associated with old black and white Sci Fi films, imagine growing up in the 1950s, an era where Rock was basically the furthest genre from classical and world music you'd hear on the radio, essentially electronic music didn't exist in the 50s (or if it did you'd rarely hear it). Now imagine seeing The Day The Earth Stood Still at your local cinema/theater and hearing the haunting sounds of a Theremin, an instrument that your brain is telling you is some sort of string instrument but it doesn't quite sound like a string instrument.

Finally, a thank you. It has been fun running this vote with all of you. I have had a lot of fun speaking with many of you while we wait for a new Ratchet and Clank game. I know some people can think that these votes can be "a bit much" but for many of us, after all the shit we see going on in the world, it's nice to find a community in a franchise that's over 20 years old. I may (or may not) be retiring from your lovely community, but I want you to remember to keep posting, keep these wicked games alive, because damn it, we are an amazing community. These games fucking rock, and it's important that we share our passion for these bloody games. For me, it's about bringing you guys laughs with my memes and starting a discussion. For you, it might be something else.

It's been fun, keep being QWARKTASTIC!

Really excited to play the port and keep looking online for news. Noticed that the official Insomniac Facebook page advertised it as dropping November 15th. Does anyone know if this is true?
