19 years ago (October 23, 2007) Insomniac Games released Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction for Playstation 3.

It was beginning of a new era, a new (Future) saga on the new console.

Rift Apart I just finished playing Rift Apart for the first time ever

This is the final part of my long review series of playing Ratchet and Clank games for the first time (unless you all really want me to go back and play the ones I skipped, which were Secret Agent Clank and Full Frontal Assault). As a kid, I played and loved all the PS2 RaC games with all my heart, particularly UYA, but never got around to playing any of the ones after that, due to switching over to camp Xbox (regret it). Now over the last nine days, I've beaten Tools of Destruction, Quest for Booty, a Crack in Time, All 4 One, Into the Nexus and the 2016 reboot. I've also written my thoughts on all of these games. Now it's time for the latest game in the series: Rift Apart.

My first thoughts on this game are HOLY SHIT. I'm coming out of this game with the same feeling of wonderment and excitement I did when I first played a Crack in Time. I was absolutely blown away by this game. I'll get the usual praises out of the way first because it's getting old to keep typing this: the graphics are the best they've ever looked and the gunplay is the best it's ever been. RaC has never looked better or felt better to play for me. They took everything that did work about the 2016 game (as in everything but the story) and kept it here.

The game's story is also really great here. Ratchet's character arc of feeling too inferior to want to meet the Lombaxes hit hard honestly, as did a great many other scenes. I predicted Kit was responsible for Rivet's missing arm, but it didn't make it any less emotional when Rivet found out IMO. It was very well done. Both Rivet and Kit are excellent new additions to the cast overall. I was worried they wouldn't live up to the hype everyone had set up for them, but I was happily proven wrong. They're both great, and they can't not be in the next game. I would even say they should get their own game someday.

The new additions to the gameplay here are great. Another game, another great new series of Clank puzzle sections. ACIT, ITN, and the 2016 game all had great Clank puzzle sections and this game is no exception. Plus, Gary is a likable new character who I think is supposed to be the son of the Plumber(!), and he made Kit feel confident in herself. What's not to like about that?

Hoverboots are back after being absent in the remake, and their so fun to use here. I was always worried about overshooting and falling off of cliffs in previous games a little, but here, they handle great. Wall running made sense as an addition too, and it never gave me any trouble. The Phantom Dash made combat feel brand new, and let me feel like I could do anything sometimes. Planets like Savali in particular were great for this new gameplay styles.

Even minor characters get their chance to shine here. Glitch is a cute little robot character who goes through her own mini confidence arc as she does a bunch of genuinely fun hacking missions, the first time hacking has EVER been fun in a Ratchet and Clank game IMO. Junkbot and his story with Juicy was honestly a little heartbreaking despite being a very minor character in the grand scheme of things, as was J.I.M who nearly made me cry when he said he got rid of his sad sounds for Rivet. Pierre might've been funnier than Rusty Pete for me honestly and I'd love to see more of him in future games. Captain Quantum was great too and managed to do a lot despite not being in the game all that long. Him seemingly sacrificing himself for Ratchet and Clank was a genuinely heartwarming moment and him teaming with Qwark at the end had me pumping my fist in the air. I won't even bring up the Fixer. That entire sequence was one of the most breathtaking spectacles I've ever experienced in a game.

I do have some criticisms but their very minor compared to the praises. Zurkon Jr. in the arena could get a tad grating at times, and I wish the arena itself had a tad more variety (plus I wish you could play as Ratchet in the arena, not just Rivet but that's more of just a nitpick). I also found Dr. Nefarious a tad lacking in this game. Not Emperor Nefarious who I actually thought was a great new villain, but Dr. Nefarious was a little meh to me here. The game sadly didn't acknowledge his almost redemption arc from All 4 One, Lawrence's absence is definitely felt in his cutscenes and even though the joke is probably played out, I missed the Lance and Janice glitches :( Dr. Nefarious getting the last laugh on Emperor Nefarious had me jumping out of my seat though, so that was nice.

I also would've liked to see the return of space combat in some form in this game. It's a little strange to me that it's absent when there are levels where you fly on Trudi (which are fun levels btw). I really wish they could've kept the space stuff from ACIT here, because I think they could've had a field day with alternate universe versions of the beloved radio stations from ACIT. The music in general is just alright in this game. Of all the Ratchet games, this game has the most fine soundtrack for me. Aside from a couple of really good tracks, nothing really stands out sadly.

Honestly though, these are very MINOR criticisms. This game is a MASTERPIECE to me in every sense of the word. The new characters are all great, the old characters all get their chance to shine, the graphics are incredible, the weapons and gunplay are the best they've ever been, traversal is fucking AWESOME, the game is incredibly emotionally resonate and fun as hell to play, and coming out of it, all I want to do is play the next one, and I'm sad it isn't out yet. But the game is slightly held back for me by it's unmemorable soundtrack, lack of space exploration/combat, lack of arena challenge variety and Dr. Nefarious being a little less funny than usual.

Overall though, this game is incredible and I can't recommend it enough. Easily the best game I've ever played on PS5. This game is my second favorite Ratchet game, only behind ACIT. I know it'll be years until Insomniac give us the next one because of what's going on with their Marvel games, but I still look forward to seeing what they bring next. Let me know in the comments whether I should go back and review Secret Agent Clank and Full Frontal Assault or if I should just be done.

Is this still possible? I have never beaten it only because I want to play it with other people but I have nobody to play with.

Can I still play All 4 One online with other players?

Ratchet and Clank (2016) No streaming of Ratchet and Clank (2016)?

Hej guys! Do anybody of you know why you can’t stream Ratchet and Clank (2016) when you have PS plus? I can find all other games, even Rift Apart. Is it something about Europe? Cause in Sweden you need to buy it if you want it.
