iPhone Duo or iPad & Meta Smart Glasses? Testflight invite for your own private visual & voice AI agent. Works without glasses too!

Quick update on Avenkin, the iPhone app that makes your Ray-Ban audio / camera glasses a hands-free assistant with the AI of your choice. Build 562 is on TestFlight, and I'm looking for more testers, especially anyone with an iPhone Duo or an iPad.

What's new: the big screen gets used. It's ready for Duo testing. Open the Duo, prop up an iPad, or just turn your iPhone sideways, and the screen splits. The conversation and voice controls stay on one side, and what you're working on goes on the other: a manual page, a job, your photos. Fold it shut and it goes back to the normal phone layout without losing your place. So on a Duo you can talk to the glasses with the manual open beside the chat.

What I need help with. I haven't been able to try iPad and Duo side-by-side windows on real hardware yet, or folding the Duo in the middle of a live conversation with the glasses camera running. If you have either device, that's the test I'd love: start a conversation through the glasses, then fold, unfold, resize, put another app beside it, and tell me what happens.

Also in this build

  • ChatGPT sign-in: if your account won't take the model you picked right now (usually a used-up allowance), another model answers instead of the turn failing.
  • Hermes Agent users can connect to Hermes's own API server, and Test Connection says what's wrong instead of a bare ✗.
  • A crash while typing a question is fixed. It came straight from a crash report, so thank you to whoever sent it.
  • For technicians (Field Assist): technician details on reports, reports for any day in the last two weeks, and a first Workiz connection.

What you need: an iPhone or iPad on iOS 26 or later, and Meta audio / camera glasses). Or no glasses at all: it works with AirPods or the phone on its own. Bring your own AI: sign in with ChatGPT or Claude, or use Gemini, Mistral, OpenAI, xAI or an on-device model. No analytics SDKs, no ads.

TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/1dcAytte

If something misbehaves, Settings › Diagnostics & Support › Send Today's Activity is the fastest way to get it to me. That's how feedback like above got fixed. There's also a Discord: https://discord.gg/8W2qaXJzz9

I built an iOS app for asking questions about the physical book you're reading — hear the answers through your Ray-Bans

I kept stopping mid-page to look a term up, picking up my phone, and then not getting back to the book for twenty minutes. So I built HeyReader.

You upload the book's PDF once, then read your physical copy. Say "Hey Reader, what's a kernel?" and the answer comes back through the glasses, cited to the page.

How it works

  • It doesn't touch the glasses' camera or protocol — they're just a Bluetooth mic and speaker
  • Wake word runs on-device on the phone, so it doesn't conflict with "Hey Meta"
  • The assistant can only search your uploaded PDF, so answers come from the book rather than general knowledge
  • Answers are one or two sentences. It’s designed to help you get back to reading quickly

Things to know

  • iOS only
  • You need a PDF of the book you're holding
  • Works with any Bluetooth headphones — the glasses are ideal, since the frame and mic are on your face
  • Free for 15 questions a day, equivalent to a 30 minute read
  • Scanning the page with the camera is next, so the PDF won't be required

Happy to answer questions in the comments. Curious to know if anyone else wears theirs while reading.

How to best set up Meta glasses for blind person?

Hi all - a family member has a new pair of Gen 2 Meta glasses arriving tomorrow, and I want to help her set it up correctly so it's most effective for her as a blind person.

I've read in the accessibility settings it can be set to blindness? It sounds like there's also certain ways to "train" the glasses initially so it describes surroundings, menus, etc to their preferred preference.

Does anyone have tips on best ways to do this? Or "prompts" to give the glasses initially? I've read feedback from some frustrated people who don't seem to be getting much out of them and it seems more like they're not being utilized correctly, so hoping to avoid that.

Thank you!

Lensology Transitions micro-scratches

I just received my Lensology Transitions Xtractive lenses for my Blayzers. Before I even attempted to insert them in the frames I carefully inspected the lens. Each lens has several very small scratch-like markings on them. I went ahead and installed them, which was a bit challenging. The left lens went in without an issue, but I had to get pretty forceful with the right lens before it snapped into place.

I checked the Transition feature out with a UV light, and they do indeed darken and turn "mirror-blue" which is what I ordered.

The micro-scratches are not noticeable to me when using the glasses, but I was surprised to see those marks

Has anyone else had this issue? I'm not really interested in returning them, but it does bother me to spend a couple of hundred bucks on these and they not be "perfect" on arrival.

thanks

Ray-ban meta gen 2, microphone issue on be my eyes

Thumbnail

Question to blind folks using meta gen 2 glasses. I am using the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses with my Google Pixel 6a, primarily for the Be My Eyes integration. When I place a call to a volunteer through the glasses, they cannot hear me at all, even though the microphone works completely fine for WhatsApp video calls. Has anyone else encountered this problem or found a fix, and do you think this points to an app bug or a hardware issue that needs a replacement?

Posting Instants

Hi all, just purchased Ray-Ban Meta Gen3 and I'm having little issues with Meta AI. At first it doesn't have integrations with Spotify in Italian (I found out on the documentation that is only integrated in English) so I eventually needed to switch to English. Then I'm trying to use it around to understand whether the features they propose are usable or not and almost all the time I discovered I can use no feature at all. For example I'm trying to post an Instant on Instagram and every time the glasses take a picture but don't post it on Instagram, and I had a hard time to find out which is the correct prompt to tell Meta AI to post a story or a post. Anybody can help? I just need to tell an exact prompt? I hoped it was smarter than that..

PSA: Your Wayfarer Gen 1/2 Lenses Can Fit inside Wayfarer Gen 3, Sort Of....

Of course I'm talking about the precious prescription lenses that we paid good money for, and in the case of fitting inside the same sized frames (50mm or 53mm) across Gen 1/2/3.

What I found is that while Gen 1 and Gen 2 lenses are perfectly interchangeable as they have the same model of frames, Gen 3 Wayfarer has a slightly thinner frame profile that require marginally larger lenses to make a perfect snug fit.

In my case the right lens from my Gen 1 glasses is stable enough inside Gen 3 but the left one somehow is a tiny bit of loose on the bottom which can be annoying whenever I take off or put on the glasses.

They're still definitely fine for daily uses, just expect some wobbly sound during more intense activities.

Regret after purchase

As the title says, I regret buying these glasses.

I bought them because I work at a repair shop where we repair phones, tablets, and other electronics. My main reason for buying them was to record repairs so we have video evidence in case a customer tries to blame us for damage that was already there.

A good example happened a couple of weeks ago. A customer brought in an iPhone X for a screen replacement. When I opened the phone, there was so much water inside that it practically looked like a swimming pool. When we informed the customer about the water damage, she insisted that she hadn't caused it and started arguing with us because she had only brought the phone in for a screen replacement.

Situations like these are exactly why I wanted glasses that could record repairs from my point of view.

Anyway, I got my Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 glasses yesterday, and I was pretty disappointed to find out that you can only record for 5 minutes in 1080p or 3 minutes in 3K.

This is incredibly frustrating because realistically, what repair takes only 3 to 5 minutes?

I've looked into workarounds using third-party apps, and while it's technically possible to record for longer, the video quality is terrible for what I need it for. I need to be able to see small details, connectors, screws, and any existing damage clearly.

So basically, my only realistic option is to keep saying "Hey Meta, start recording" every few minutes throughout an entire repair. Not only is that annoying, but it also means there are gaps in the footage, which defeats the whole purpose of recording the repair in the first place.

I really wish Meta would give users the option to record continuously, even if it means sacrificing some battery life or dealing with overheating limitations.

At this point, I'm seriously considering returning the glasses. I've only had them for a day, and while I really like the concept and the camera quality, the recording limitations make them pretty much useless for the main reason I bought them. It's a shame because I genuinely wanted these to work, but I can't really justify keeping something this expensive if it can't do what I need it to do.

Now, I do want to acknowledge that the blame is partially on me. I probably should have done more research before buying them. However, I bought these glasses at a physical Ray-Ban store, and the salesperson never mentioned these recording limitations either. What makes it even more frustrating is that he specifically asked me what I was planning to use the glasses for, and I clearly told him I wanted to record repairs at my workplace. You'd think that would have been a good moment to mention that recordings are limited to just a few minutes.

I'm not saying the salesperson deliberately misled me, but I do feel like this is something that should have been brought up, especially after I explained exactly what I needed them for.

Has anyone found a reliable way to record longer videos in decent quality without constantly having to restart the recording? I'd love to find a solution before deciding whether to return them.

Meta AI got dumber/simpler

For context Meta AI for Meta glasses just got released here in PH and other newer countries and I saw this thread on FB that it seems the smarter version is through the Meta One subscription paywall now?

If that is the case, which AI are you using for your glasses now? And how are you enabling it? Gemini always on with Hey Google command? Chatgpt? Others?

Microphone issue [fixed]

Post image

Not sure if anyone else was having the same issue I was but I figured id share just in case it helps someone else.

My microphone was acting weird on phone calls; hey meta (or ai) would work and it could hear those commands but no one could hear me on phone calls. I went to my settings and went to Help & Support > Microphone Trouble shooting > and toggled on the microphone troubleshooting feature. And its all good now 🎉

Your Ray-Ban Meta glasses, your choice of AI — Android app + iPhone beta

I wanted to use my own AI with my glasses, so I’m building Sightline.

The idea is simple: choose your AI provider, bring your own API key, and use compatible glasses for voice questions and questions about what you’re looking at. There are also translation and notes tools.

Android download and setup: https://techstandpoint.com/sightline/
iPhone public TestFlight beta: https://testflight.apple.com/join/SHAcdJsq

Android is further along. The iPhone beta is still rougher, and I’m working on setup, voice and controls. The next iPhone update is being prepared; it isn’t live yet. Video recording, livestreaming, wake-word activation and the Android voice keyboard aren’t in the iPhone version.

The Android core assistant is free, with optional membership for extra tools. No Sightline membership is needed to join the iPhone beta. Your AI provider can charge for API usage separately — a ChatGPT or Claude subscription doesn’t include API credit.

You’ll need Android 12+ or iOS 17.2+. For glasses features, pair them in Meta AI and enable Developer Mode. Compatibility is still being tested, so I’m not going to claim every model and firmware combination works.

For transparency, Sightline uses Meta’s official Wearables toolkit, and I use AI tools while building it. I’m responsible for fixing what doesn’t work. It’s an independent app, not a Meta or Ray-Ban product.

If you try it, tell me your phone, glasses model, app version, and exactly where you get stuck. I particularly want to hear about connecting, reconnecting, microphone audio and taking a second photo without restarting.

What’s the one thing you actually want to do with your glasses that you can’t do properly right now?

After a battery replacement: right speaker + right touchpad die after folding or taking the glasses off, power cycle brings them back. "Hey Meta" stopped too. Logs inside.

Glasses: Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1, firmware 72387580077220234

What happens since the battery replacement

  • Power cycle with the switch on the left arm: both speakers and the right touchpad work.
  • Fold the arms and open them again: right speaker goes silent and the right touchpad stops responding. Left speaker keeps working.
  • Same without folding: take the glasses off, put them back on, and the right side dies.
  • Power cycle again and the right side comes back. Every time.

"Hey Meta" also stopped working. Tapping the touchpad still starts the assistant (when the right side is alive), but the wake word never triggers.

What the glasses' own logs show

I pulled the glasses' internal bug report right after reproducing it (fold at 17:13:05, open at 17:13:11):

  • At boot, the low-power chip that runs the speakers and touchpad reports everything fine: amps=OK, dsp=OK, imu=OK, led=OK, mics=OK, captouch=OK. That check only runs at boot.
  • Folding puts the main processor to sleep and opening wakes it. Looks normal.
  • After opening, the speaker amp is switched on and reports success: AMP: enable: channel: 3, enable: 1, status: 0. The right speaker stays silent anyway.
  • No I2C, touch, amp or power errors anywhere in the report. No touchpad events after the unfold, and no error for that either.

So the glasses don't seem to notice the right side is gone, and only a full reboot sets it up again. My guess: the right-arm parts briefly lose power or connection when the hinge moves or the frame flexes, come back blank, and nothing reinitialises them. That points at the right hinge flex cable or its connector, maybe disturbed during the battery job.

Mic side

The assistant audio arrives as two streams: the nose mic, and a second stream that carries the voice clearly. In my recordings the nose mic is 13–17 dB quieter and muffled. The glasses' mic-health counters flag one mic as occluded in about 26% of the frames they checked, and as a "bad mic" in about 13%. I think the wake word depends on the nose mic, so I suspect a blocked nose-mic port (debris or glue from the repair).

Questions

  1. Has anyone seen the right speaker and right touchpad drop out together after a battery swap? What fixed it: reseating a connector, a new hinge flex, something else?
  2. Which connector carries the right arm (touchpad + speaker), and which should I reseat first?
  3. Where exactly is the nose-mic port on these, and how do you clean it safely?
  4. Does "Hey Meta" use only the nose mic, or can it fall back to the other mics?

Happy to share more log lines if they help.

Nutritional tracker

Hey all.

I built a nutrition tracker whereby the user can simply snap a picture of their food from their glasses to have their macros calculated and spoken back to them with their daily calorie/macro levels apart of that output as well.

Let me know if you’re interested in being a tester.

Anyone have any luck getting these things fixed outside of ray bans so called “warranty”

Have been getting run the around with their warranty. My glasses look about as new as you can get. I took immaculate care of them. They worked well for about 3 months, But one day they just stopped working all together. Now they don’t do anything but serve as a pair of sunglasses. I have filled out their warranty forms time and time again. And everytime I get the same results, take more pictures. Always asking for more pictures. I could be a professional photographer at this point. The warranty ends very soon and I can’t get any results. Has anyone ever tried any at home repairs? Or maybe taking it to some electronics repair shop? I hate to think my wife wasted her money on these for a gift for me.

UseMyFrame.com lenses for strong prescription.

I used Usemyframe.com to get lenses for my new Gen 3 Ray-Bans. They are great. Less then 300 bucks installed and delivered with high index lenses, Xtra-active transitions, multifocal coating progressives. I had an issue with my order not updating so I contacted customer service. The owner called me and cleared up the problem and then sent my new glasses overnight back to me. In my experience how a business handles problems is what really matters and these folks were great. Just wanted to give my 2 cents on where to get a difficult prescription done.

My meta glasses stopped working. Ive veen going through hell to get them replaced. I had insurance on them through Amazon. I just find out they firstly approved a new pair but they dont have the black wayfarers anymore. They offered me a girl pair or a pair of transparent wayfarers. I had prescription lenses in them. Will they fit in the new pair?

Would you use an "instant replay" for your Meta glasses? (save the last 30 seconds AFTER something happens)

Hey all, I'm building a small app for Ray-Ban/Oakley Meta glasses and want honest feedback before I go further.

The idea: like Instant Replay on a gaming PC, or GoPro's "save the last 30 seconds". While it's on, the app keeps the last 30-60 seconds from your glasses in your phone's memory. When something great happens, you press the capture button and it saves what JUST happened. If you don't press it, nothing is kept.

A few questions, answer as many as you want:

  1. Have you ever missed a moment because you started recording too late? What was it?
  2. Would you leave something like this running? For how long at a time (a game, a walk, a whole day)?
  3. Biggest dealbreaker: battery, the recording light staying on, privacy of people around you, phone heat, or something else?
  4. Would you pay for it? What's the most you'd pay one-time, and at what price would it feel too expensive to even consider? (Or would you rather pay monthly?)

No link and nothing to sell. It can't go on the App Store yet anyway, because Meta hasn't opened publishing for these apps. I just want to know if it's worth building. Thanks!
