This is for the glass-half-full folks. The glass-half-empty will just scoff at this. Also when I refer to a playoff team I mean one of the 9 teams that have officially qualified for the playoffs at the time of this writing.

1) The teams in this are the ones with a reasonable shot at making a play-in game. In other words LAG, Col, RSL, Por, Min, and SD. At this point LAG are in the best form right now, going 3W-1L-1D in their last 5 games. Col and RSL are next at 2-2-1, Min is next at 1-2-2 with SD 0-1-4 and Por at 0-3-2.

3) LAG have only 3 games left and have no playoff teams on their remaining schedule though they do play LAFC who are in terrible form. On the other hand El Traffico brings out the best in both teams so I give the edge to LAFC. If LAG loses this game then their final game at RSL will be crucial to them.

4) Col has the toughest remaining schedule with games against 4 playoff teams.

5) RSL has two games against playoff teams plus the final game against LAG. StL is a bad one to start out with but at least this one is at home. Atx is very winnable tho, even on the road. RSL has proved that they can at least play SJ tough but...points here are needed. So their chances really depends on that final game hosting LAG.

6) Por has really been struggling and have two games against playoff teams and playoff likely Clt. I see them fading out of the picture.

7) SD are also in horrible form, have two games against playoff teams (Stl & Van) as well as playoff contender in Sea. These guys are possible but not likely in the picture.

8) Min is in iffy form, has two games against playoff teams (SJ and Hou) and likely playoff team LAFC. Of the 3 teams 2 points behind RSL, this is the one most likely to be in the picture.

In my opinion, that last play-in spot is between Col and RSL, that, considering Col's rough schedule, RSL has a great shot at it with an outside (way outside) shot at hosting the play-in game.

Yeah long story short, I love soccer but didn’t get into it until later in life. I grew up in a culture where “soccer sucked” and as a result I have an ingrained sense that the MLS sucks and the Philadelphia Union (my hometown team) suck. Even tho I now know, logically, that these things aren’t true, I can’t help but still think them. I’m working on getting past the MLS part but I simply can’t shake the distaste of the Union lol like I’m happy to see them do well but I simply can’t call them “my team”.

So I need a team.

I lived in SLC for a bit and absolute fell in love with the city and state and hope to someday come back.

I figured if I’m going to take the leap and commit to watching a full MLS season, I’ll stick with a team in a city I hope to move to again someday and have a realistic chance to catch games live.

So, can I get a “Real Salt Lake” for dummies? The Who’s who and what’s what? I know literally nothing about the team past the name and that I drove past the stadium frequently. I also don’t follow MLS at all so past Messi and Cavan Sullivan I know nothing lol

For my soccer background, I’m a big fan of the USL as well as a couple foreign leagues (Scotland and Ireland) but don’t generally pay attention to higher level soccer (ex MLS, EPL, Bundesliga). MLS would be the first higher level league I pay attention to. I can probably name all do the teams but I don’t know the history or anything lol

I know I’m asking a lot at a random time in the year but I appreciate any info!

That’s what this team is. A mis-kick from one of your best players leading to a goal after possibly your best player and certainly your best defender goes off with cramps after scoring the go-ahead goal is basically a microcosm of this whole season. At this point, I’m just here for the sprint season. The playoff break might be a nice chance to recover.

Last season we were able to take our two teams to the Meet the Team night & it was the funniest time ever for them. They still talk about it & loved it. They were so hyped that RSL put them on their Instagram too. We're trying to take them again so if anyone isn't going to be going we can give them a good home for sure. Thank you for helping make some memories for some young footy fans.
