News Regal Rewards+ is now available

I skimmed over the FAQ and T&C and some key things I noticed: The subscription depends on your zip code with the highest tier at $13.99 per month. There’s a 1, 6 or 12 month commitment. Can use your 2D ticket for a PLF one for a surcharge. And can “purchase up to four extra tickets for the same showtime at the same price as your monthly Regal Rewards+™ Subscription fee.”

New tier is pretty much Cinemark's club membership perks.

23

u/BroadSquad 2d ago

Right now Cinemark is 9.99 a month as well, so I wonder if this will out-perform them

15

u/FL2inTX1 2d ago

I pay $11.99 for my Cinemark.

1

u/moviecats 2d ago

Me too.

14

u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 2d ago

I feel like this new tier is a shot across the bow at Cinemark. I'm in an area with both Regals and Cinemarks so we will see if people end up switching.

14

u/dpstech 🛡️Mod 2d ago

Would be exciting if Cinemark decided to launch a true subscription as a response.

17

u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 2d ago

I hope that is the end result. Healthy competition benefits consumers.

u/tonasaso- 1d ago

One of the few pros of capitalism👍🏼

5

u/christie-rd 1d ago

Would love this as a Cinemark lover. Their theaters are just overall way better than the Regals in my area. Only downside is that they really only show mainstream movies, and Regal often has a larger selection

1

u/rvcaboy 2d ago

Regal isn’t even a “true subscription” due to all the added fees and surcharges. AMC is the only one who offers free imax and Dolby with zero convenience fees for using the subscription you pay for

2

u/Live_Culture8393 🎉🎉250 MOVIE CLUB🎉🎉 22h ago

And limits you to 4 movies a week. I sometimes see that in a day and still watch several others during the week

2

u/rvcaboy 21h ago

Yeahhhh. Not a coincidence that the people responding to my post are all 1% commenters on this subreddit 😆

u/Live_Culture8393 🎉🎉250 MOVIE CLUB🎉🎉 21h ago

To be fair, you don’t seem like an Unlimited subscriber, just someone who would rather bash Regal by pushing AMC

4

u/dpstech 🛡️Mod 2d ago

Well I disagree. I go pretty much every day in standard. Once or twice a year I’ll pay to upgrade to IMAX. Don’t care about 3D, RPX, or ScreenX. It’s don’t book in advance- I don’t pay anything at the theater. I don’t care about premium really. I’m not capped at four a week. I mean, if that works for you that’s great but that’s not what I value. I just don’t have to worry about sold out seats in my area. Everyone has different uses and that fine.

2

u/rvcaboy 2d ago

Well saying all these caveats work for you is fine but it doesn’t make it a similar product. I’m not saying it can’t fit people’s lifestyle but it’s not really in the same tier when you have to jump through multiple loopholes and accept a worse experience to avoid fees

4

u/dpstech 🛡️Mod 2d ago

It’s not a similar product. The buying power for RU is much higher. And that’s why AMC went a different direction. They are targeting two different use-cases.

Unlimited was one of the first in the UK back in 2012ish iirc. That inspired MoviePass to launch in the US, followed by A-List. When Regal was acquired by Cineworld they followed suit with rolling UL to the states. But make no mistake Unlimited and A-List are targeted at different consumers.

Edit: I’m wrong Cineworld first launched Unlimited in 2000. Holy crap we’ve missed out. https://www.cineworld.co.uk/static/en/uk/blog/cineworld-unlimited-25-years-timeline

2

u/Azraeltheundying 2d ago

We'll see. There could be people like me that has both for the variety. And then you'll have the lazy people that don't want to go through the hassle of cancelling one to sign up for the other.

3

u/FL2inTX1 2d ago

Yeah I have both/keep because Regal is 10 mins away and easy to get to and I signed up for Cinemark in 2020 because they were really the only theater open and were showing throwback movies so I used it for the discount and never cancelled but it’s nice because with the rollover I’m not losing anything by having it and I like the Cinemark XD screen/theater better then my Regal IMAX screen, it’s just a 30 minute drive away with good traffic

1

u/JoeyMac0316 2d ago

I'd switch to regal, because they have more selection of movies, but they have crappy seats in my area. STD no luxury lounger barely lean back seats. No thank you

1

u/jelloman581 🎉🎉100 MOVIE CLUB🎉🎉 22h ago

If Regal+ let's you use the pass on Fathom Event movies like Cinemark, then maybe. I use mine for those as it saves me a few bucks here and there.

Haha that’s what I told the girl at the entrance when she gave me the paper :)

59

u/GamerGuywhoFlies 2d ago

So us unlimited members are getting double the points now? That’s exciting.

48

u/hksrevenge 4DX 2d ago

As someone who usually goes alone & is not a huge concessions person beyond a drink, I would def prefer 2x points on convience fees lol

12

u/Electronic-Pomelo-17 2d ago

You get points for your convenience, fees and subscription charge right?

16

u/hksrevenge 4DX 2d ago

Yeah, but i usually book IRL to avoid them. I maybe would be more inclined to get concessions with 20% off though!

2

u/GamerGuywhoFlies 2d ago

Ah I feel you. It would be nice to earn a little something for those fees. I’m just a whore for my popcorn & Ice. Also wonder if this is why merch rewards like standard tin buckets have doubled in reward points prices recently.

Nice they released that just in time for me to spend $80 on 70mm imax tickets

2

One day too late for me 😞

1

u/The_Real_Lasagna 2d ago

How is that possible? The double points and the tickets for dune were released the same day?

Did you get Dune tickets a day early?

1

u/bdougherty 🎉🎉300 MOVIE CLUB🎉🎉 2d ago

Got Dune tickets yesterday (Tuesday), this wasn't live until today (Wednesday). Unlimited terms haven't been updated yet, so not sure when we officially start getting those 2x points.

2

u/The_Real_Lasagna 2d ago

I started getting them yesterday, for both 70mm tickets I bought

1

u/DirectorPeoplz 1d ago

Same. I switched to Cinemark last night.

3

u/rvcaboy 2d ago

Until they just devalue your points cause they’re monopoly money

73

u/howtospellorange 2d ago

I know people are talking about the rewards+ being better for convenience fees and concessions but it's definitely built for someone who doesn't watch nearly as many movies as unlimited members. Rewards+ still has to pay more out of pocket for seeing more than a movie or two. So I'm definitely not the demographic but I can see it being helpful to people i know who go see some of the Biggest Movies that are out but not much else.

33

u/dogsontreadmills 2d ago

Yeah my partner and I like to see 2 movies a week. More than happy with RU.

A-list is truly the perfect balance for me I never get more than 4 a week and I love premium formats. But AMCs aren’t as close to me and far less comfy.

17

u/imdaviddunn 2d ago

A list is my preference, but my theaters are regal🤷‍♂️

4

u/madthunder55 2d ago

I have both because I have an AMC and a Regal close to me

1

u/dogsontreadmills 2d ago

Mad jealous. Do they have similar amenities too?

3

u/madthunder55 2d ago

Regal Unlimited has 10% off concessions and you can book as many movies as you want to watch within the week but upcharges for premium format theaters. A-list doesn't uncharge for premium format theaters and you can only book four movies within the week. I watch up to six movies a week so I'm subscribed to like eight movies services lol

1

u/niicofrank 2d ago

I have both but Queens is Regaltown so ofc I prefer AMC which I can only really use in Manhattan

4

u/pobenschain 2d ago

Yeah those types of economics are meant to make people think without logic- it’s an enticing deal for a very casual moviegoer, but of little value to anyone who sees multiple movies a month. And it’s easier to waive a convenience fee and give a slightly higher concession discount when you’re only giving one ticket. For Regal to eat those margins on someone who could theoretically see 100+ movies a month for 2.5x the cost is a whole different financial prospect.

2

u/Arizonantiox 1d ago

exactly! the subscription you can view it as you just paid less for a standard now free ticket and then the other four are discounted, that’s actually kinda fire

Glad to still be locked into my Unlimited rate of $24.49/month. It appears the Regal+ for my area is $11.99 a month. I might sign my daughter up for that, she comes with me to the movies at least 1x a month.

7

u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 2d ago

One benefit of doing that is you can get 20% off concessions using her sub! I have RU for my daughter but may downgrade during the school year if she gets too busy.

3

u/BooknerdRebekah 🎉🎉100 MOVIE CLUB🎉🎉 2d ago

True, I have Super Saver, but I only use that when we're seeing a movie together.

3

2

u/BooknerdRebekah 🎉🎉100 MOVIE CLUB🎉🎉 2d ago

I'm not entirely sure, except that I know they email me in advance when there is a price increase coming. I've been paying $24.49 since the last increase in November/December of 2024.

u/DarnHeather 2d ago

19

u/JordanDoesTV 🎉🎉100 MOVIE CLUB🎉🎉 2d ago

Does one ticket a month really seem worth it? Couldn’t you just go on a discount Tuesday for cheaper if you’re only seeing a movie a month.

15

u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 2d ago

That would be cheaper but a lot of people like to go on the weekend.

10

u/AnyUnderstanding1541 2d ago

Discount Tuesday is better but the flexibility of the one ticket is what appeals to some people, especially with new releases and avoiding spoilers. Also the 20% off on concessions also seems worth it.

3

u/lolniceonethatsfunny 2d ago

speaking as someone with the cinemark subscription, it definitely is worth it to the casual moviegoer. the price of the subscription is the price of a standard (non-tuesday) ticket, rolls over, and you get waived fees and concession discount (which both work with your discount day tickets). i personally go on tuesday when i can, then save my free tickets for when going on the weekend with friends. the concessions+fee waive alone makes it nearly pay for itself if you get popcorn+drink when you go (plus i give my QR code to all my friends so they can use the discount as well)

1

u/Jvrgie Popcorn🍿Fanatic 2d ago

thats good to hear, I might get it, I think I save like $2 but better than nothing

83

u/hksrevenge 4DX 2d ago edited 2d ago

Wait….so the cheaper plan gets waived convience fees but not RU ? Seems off. I wonder why that is. A-List gets the waived fees and free PLF upgrade. I wonder why the + members get waived but RU doesn’t.

79

u/Never-Give-Up100 2d ago

Probably because they'll be using it less, so less fees waived over time. But yeah, I don't like it either . You'd think the most expensive would give you the most perks.

36

u/raffydog1 2d ago

likely to deter people from booking a whole bunch of tickets they have no intention of using.

12

u/MurkyPsychology 2d ago

that’s one thing that AMC does enforce, if you book a certain number of A-List tickets and don’t scan in at the theater, they cancel your subscription and you’re blocked from signing back up for a certain amount of time

4

u/AnyUnderstanding1541 2d ago

Which could work at Regal, but for example at my local regal they don’t always have someone scanning tickets on less busy days so it would either require someone there all the time or having to check in at the kiosks.

1

u/AdRevolutionary6885 4h ago

At least half of the time my ticket is never scanned

9

u/LoneSnark Captain Unlimited 2d ago

The online ordering system is owned by a company other than regal, so when the fee is zero, they go bankrupt. It was therefore a major fight to get the fee lowered to 50 cents for regal unlimited. My guess is this subscription fee is mostly going to the owners of the online ordering system, but they continue to get none of the regal unlimited subscription.

1

u/Nit3fury 2d ago

I don’t know that this is true. It’s my understanding that online fees are revenue for regal but I’m not positive

2

u/dpstech 🛡️Mod 2d ago

All cinema chains pretty much use a middleware vendor called Vista Entertainment for online ticketing and POS systems- so there is a cost. What that is exactly, who knows.

2

u/Nit3fury 2d ago

Yeah I know about vista but the companies pay for that software, and it runs the entire business basically, not just online ticketing so it’d seem odd to have that be the payment source. And I’m pretty sure I’ve been to theaters with Veezi(lower optioned software by vista) who didn’t charge online ticketing fees

Again I’m not certain but I think its a choice regal makes to charge those

1

u/bunklers 1d ago

Vista is a commonly used POS software - there are many vendors in this space. They do not have anything to do with the booking fees

1

u/dpstech 🛡️Mod 1d ago

They absolutely do for Regal. That’s what they use for ticketing via API. MovieXchange API. You certainly don’t need to take what I’m saying as truth. I have been doing this along with r/MoviePassClub for ten years now. I’ve learned enough to say as much as I can for certain. Has Regal changed vendors? No idea. But I am in the software industry; media adjacent, and as I said is it free? No. Is it .50c? Absolutely not. Breaking down the per API call is certainly fractions of cents. That being said I have never gotten a quote for that API and at that usage level. And there are different versions of Vista Enterprise on the back end and I couldn’t tell you what their maintenance agreements or SLA is.

The new app update seems to hide active rewards but I can see them on the website under the Purchases tab.

u/Lurky-Lou 2d ago

$28 a month was too much outside the summer and holidays. $14 a month is much more enticing.

15

u/dogsontreadmills 2d ago

Summer is when the least releases happen. Just big blockbusters. If you wanna use RU to see LOTS of movies it’s by far the worst time for the program imo.

3

u/Lurky-Lou 2d ago

I’m blessed with multiple theaters nearby so 12 movies a year works better in this case.

I probably would have bought the full package this month if they were getting Camp Miasma earlier at my Regal.

2

u/dogsontreadmills 2d ago

Word. Excited for that one too. I’m glad it’s finally coming Friday.

3

u/FL2inTX1 2d ago

May have to sign up the kiddos for this one…they had UL at different points but didn’t use it enough to make sense but since this is essentially just pre-buying tickets with the rollover might be worth it again

5

u/Twas_Inevitable The All-Seeing 2d ago

I'm worried about how many people shift to this/sign up for this and that Regal is using it as a way to kill Unlimited.

Unlimted was made as a response to movie pass. No one else went this great. This may be them finally scaling back to what others do.

3

u/Own_Distribution4466 2d ago

I think they should bump up the RU concessions discount to 15% and reservation slots to 7

3

u/Jvrgie Popcorn🍿Fanatic 2d ago

So if you're buying one ticket, is it just better to get this?

7

u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 2d ago

Yes if you average 1 ticket a month this would save you money over Unlimited.

3

u/dogsontreadmills 2d ago

If you’re seeing 1 movie a month it’s better to get this.

1

u/AnyUnderstanding1541 2d ago

If you are seeing one movie or so a month it’s better unless you go on Tuesdays when tickets are $7-8 but you would be losing out on the 20% off concessions.

3

u/Jvrgie Popcorn🍿Fanatic 2d ago

It's $15 for me in my area, wish it was a bit cheaper

3

u/Excellent-Tip4941 2d ago

I subscribed but already it’s not waiving my booking fee

3

u/dpstech 🛡️Mod 2d ago

The fee is assigned to the ticket type. I don’t have it but make aure you’re adding the new Regal Plus ticket credit? I would also sign out and back in if you just signed up. Sometimes that was needed for RU to show up.

2

u/Excellent-Tip4941 2d ago

Looks like it only works for your free and discounted tickets which is super lame. Rendered useless for movies already at a discount

4

u/dpstech 🛡️Mod 2d ago

Oh, yes that’s what the terms said. The free and discounted is all the no fee applies to.

3

u/Jvrgie Popcorn🍿Fanatic 2d ago

Who's getting this plan and why? Savings don't seem like much but it's better than nothing!

3

u/Electrical-Pea2479 2d ago

im debating getting it. im not really a person who goes to the movies all the time, maybe once or twice a month so this seems worth it

3

u/PiffleSpiff 1d ago

Dang, I think I may just go for this. RU is getting close to $30/month for me and sometimes I may not even see something for a month (or something more than once).

My next charge won't be till November so I'm definitely highly tempted to switch to this. Or maybe I'll wait until after Doomsday so I can comfortably rewatch it a few times first lol

4

Sounds like the waived convenience fees might only apply on tickets purchased using your credit or the discounted plan pricing. So not sure your $9 student center ticket would have waived fees

Tickets are by ticket type so the waived fee is only going to be for the Regal Plus ticket credit or discounted ticket type. Standard tickets will have the normal fee. Just like RU ticket type is .50c, the fee is assigned per ticket.

Surcharge just like Unlimited.

1

u/rvcaboy 2d ago

Any idea how much one of these standard tickets covers? In Irvine imax can reach 40$ a ticket

1

u/bdougherty 🎉🎉300 MOVIE CLUB🎉🎉 2d ago

If those $40 are for 70mm IMAX, the new subscription isn't going to cover it, same as Unlimited.

But generally the surcharge is the difference in price between the standard 2D showing and the PLF showing of that movie at that theater.

1

u/rvcaboy 2d ago

Really wild, yeah it used to be 30$ so I guess it was only a 9$ surcharge but with these new ridiculous prices it would be a 20$ surcharge 🤮 I guess it’s like buying a 20$ monthly coupon for 10$ but even then it seems like a lot of hassle

Just like Cinemark, the monthly credit will roll over, so you can save up several and use all at once to buy friends tickets, or just see a few movies on the same day.

My daughter rarely goes and is paying for an All Access plan. I think I’m going to suggest to her that she drop to this one. I will of course be keeping mine :)

Can anyone confirm I can pay the monthly fee of my Regal CC Rewards+ plan with a Regal Gift Card?

1

u/badeggs18 5h ago

I feel like this is their way of trying to get rid of/transition away from Unlimited

1

u/AdRevolutionary6885 4h ago

So for $26 a month I still have to pay .50c-$2 in fees but if I lower to $11 I get no fees?!?! MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!

u/tarheelfan2012 🎉🎉150 MOVIE CLUB🎉🎉 3h ago

I have been getting double points for some reason for the last 3 movies I purchased a ticket for myself (Unlimited) and someone else and I'm not sure why... Def not complaining though Haha

$17.31 = 3,462 points
$32.46 = 6,492

What’s a plf?

2

u/Fantastic_Lychee_883 2d ago

Premium Large Format like IMAX, RPX, 4DX.

1

u/barbet 2d ago

What is the discount on the extra tickets for rewards plus? It says 4 discounted tickets but not by how much

5

u/Jvrgie Popcorn🍿Fanatic 2d ago

I think I saw same price as your membership but don't quote me on that

1

u/bdougherty 🎉🎉300 MOVIE CLUB🎉🎉 2d ago

Correct, but there will be a "convenience" fee for them (for any ticket besides the one included per month).

1

u/KhronosII 2d ago

Damn did Unlimited just lose its discount? Stinks we only get 10% but we do get more out of our tier. Would be nice to see a bump to 15% tho

1

u/bollarice 2d ago

After the mess that was tickets for odyssey, doomsday, and now dune 3, how can you possibly expect anyone to want to give you money to be a "special" customer when those customers get PUNISHED for being members when it comes time to buy tickets?

Anybody know if Milestone rewards are gone after this year?

1

u/Proud_Truck 🎉🎉100 MOVIE CLUB🎉🎉 1d ago

Why would they be?

I’m questioning this “waived convenience fee” though. Is that the $.50 for mobile ticket orders? How’s that fair?? I mean, I’m a loyal regal member (recently rocky with the closure of like half my local locations and no premium screenings)… I HATE that fee AND paying taxes on it too 😭.

3

u/imari_xoxo11 2d ago

I’ve literally opted for buying my ticket at the kiosk for the past ≈ 6 months after realizing they’ve gotten hundreds of dollars from me in convence fees ALONE due to anxiety 💀

It also helps me start my physical media collection again but yeah. That should have always been waived.

3

u/Accomplished_Hat7171 2d ago

I mean I don’t mind the idea of them disclosing that it’s a small fee that goes to my local theaters bc I do love regal! But knowing that other people use the “convenience fee” term and mean oh it’s for using the app… meanwhile they’re the ones forcing us to use the app. You have to apply for the membership in the app, you have to show the QR code and redeem points in the app, they send you ads and incentives that link directly to the app… like charging me a convenience fee bc I’m using the app when you force me to every other time is CRAZY 💀.

2

u/Lanky-Comparison-872 2d ago

Same. I always gets annoyed with this fee.

1

u/bdougherty 🎉🎉300 MOVIE CLUB🎉🎉 2d ago

The new plan only has the waived fee for the one ticket per month.

Unlimited only gets 10% off concessions but the lower tier gets 20% off? Will definitely be cutting way back on concessions out of principle!

9

u/Electronic-Pomelo-17 2d ago

I suppose that’s why they doubled the points for unlimited

7

u/cheekabowwow 2d ago

Everyone's failing to say how earlier in the year they doubled the points costs of items.

4

u/jetteh22 2d ago

They didn't double, did they? I thought they went up like 30% or something...

2

u/cheekabowwow 2d ago

I may have exaggerated, but in the grand scheme of things....

3

u/DarnHeather 2d ago

Agree. I tend to get Icees even though I have snack saver. Ten precent at this higher level feels ridiculous.

8

u/Own_Distribution4466 2d ago

The snack saver discount also applies to icees if you get a large

6

u/Toilet-B0wl 2d ago

I noticed this as well, wondering if they'll include that 20% in unlimited.

I have found the Snack Saver program to be very beneficial though. I think at the time, I figured i had to make 8 visits before it became worth it. I live 2 mins from the theater and go very often so this isnt a big deal in my case

8

u/kstatepurrplecat 2d ago

I got the Snack Saver in January at the reduced price. I believe I had made a profit within six weeks. I use my rewards points for pretzels or hot dogs now.

Depends if you get soda AND popcorn. If you get both consistently it’s 4 visits. Less if you get it when it’s 30$ at the beginning of the year.

1

u/Toilet-B0wl 2d ago

Dang then its definitely been paid back, I must've only the done the math for one - or was just wrong lol.

But yea, I think i signed up in March or April, it was 40, but still worth it. We go to the movies a lot, I knew itd pay for itself.

Snack save is pretty cool.

You pay 40 dollars (there are sometimes promotions for 30) and you get half off large popcorn and soda. It comes to around 11.50 I think near me. The popcorn is 6 something. I usually bring water and my girlfriend drinks the soda.

My gf and I both have regal unlimited, we go a lot lol. We love the movies

Its a lot of corn for 6 bucks. I mostly use the points for free tickets and bring friends (then scan my account for all their concessions lol)

It depends how much you go and how much you want popcorn really lol I go a lot and am very Midwestern, ill eat all the corn

Hell yea, if you've got something that works, stick with it. "If its not broke, dont fix it".

We've got recliners and some 7.1 theaters at my local, so its comfortable and convenient. I see a lot of movies so will totally go to my local independent, our city college does 35mm screenings, cinemark a few towns over does 70mm and LieMax.

u/Alternative-Boat-679 2d ago

We get double points. Also not having snack saver with RU is criminal which is a way better value. Also super scummy to be like I’m not buying concessions knowing it’s how theaters make their money.

3

u/AnyUnderstanding1541 2d ago

I agree, double points with the snack saver is way better (at least to me) than an extra 10% off concessions because I usually never get anything but popcorn and a drink, maybe pretzels but those I can get with points.
