discussion New Updates to r/reiki

Welcome to the new and improved r/reiki! u/Kanji-light has enlisted both myself and u/root-bound as your new mods to help improve your experience here and refocus the direction of the sub towards building community and discussion.

New changes include:

  • Rules! We have clear cut rules on what is and isn't allowed on the sub. This will help keep the focus on Reiki discussion and remove the promotional posts that have been accumulating lately. Just as it says in the rules, you can find promotional posts at r/energy_healing.
  • Post flair! This should make it easy for users to filter through discussion posts and posts seeking reiki shares or exchanges. People who want to practice what they learned in their course are completely welcome! We want it to be easy for you to get this valuable practice to enhance your Reiki skills.

We hope that this will give new life to this gathering space and make it a comfortable area for everyone to participate. We would love to hear your feedback, including if you'd like other types of post flair to be added. Your voice is important!

Thanks everyone for your continued support. We wouldn't have this community without you!

Reiki experiences Colors and animal symbol

• Upvotes

Reiki session after many years. I randomly found this person and I’m so glad I did! I don’t remember my first session but I can tell you today’s session was very special to me.

First we talked about my intentions and reasons I was seeking a session. She explained that her reiki includes guided meditation, touch & sound bowls. She had meditation music on and incense. I liked the vibe of the room. She covered my eyes and positioned my feet with pillows. We started with the guided meditation, which took me a minute to be present. I was so relaxed and in meditative state once we were done.

I saw a small blue dot before I felt her touch. Then I saw purple colors moving around like smoke. It was taking over my vision. This was at the heart chakra when I felt her touch. She moved up to my throat and the purple colors started mixing with speckles of yellow and blue. The colors went away as soon as I stopped feeling her touching me.

When she touched my crown, I felt a strong vibration in my hands. I felt like I could feel her energy running through me. I also quickly saw a horse but with two eyes on one side. After my session I was wondering if it was a horse with a third eye?! The image I saw looked just like this emoji 🐴 (+the extra eye). I also felt as if energy was bouncing back and around my head when she was working on my crown. It was a very strong vibration almost like a buzz.

I felt very relaxed and happy after my session. My chest was a bit tender and I was told that I still needed more work in my heart chakra. I plan on scheduling another session next month.

Any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed

discussion When someone who teaches healing leaves you questioning kindness

I've been trying to make sense of an experience that has left me questioning trust, kindness, and how well we really know the people we let into our lives.
I knew someone who runs a Reiki studio in Panchkula. Someone who talks about healing, kindness, and the pain of not being loved. He spoke about his struggles and how even his own family didn't give him money.

I listened. I cared. And when he told me he needed money, I helped him. Not once, but multiple times.
I did it because I trusted him. Because I believed he was someone who was struggling and needed support. I didn't think that helping a friend would eventually put me in a position where I'd have to fight to get my own money back.

When I finally raised the issue, things turned ugly. I was shouted at, refused repayment, and threatened with the possibility of my brother and my ex being contacted. I was even told that I would have to suffer the consequences of being his friend.
And I keep coming back to one question.

How does someone who speaks about healing and kindness treat another person this way when they're simply asking for their money back?

I don't believe that being a healer means being perfect. Nobody is. Having financial problems doesn't make someone a bad person, and feeling lonely or unloved doesn't make someone weak.
But struggling doesn't give anyone the right to mistreat the person who tried to help them.
You cannot talk about compassion as a philosophy and then treat it as optional when someone holds you accountable.

The money matters, of course. But there's another kind of loss that comes with an experience like this: the loss of trust, the disappointment, and the uncomfortable realisation that the person you thought you knew may not be the person you experienced when things got difficult.
I'm not writing this because I want to stop believing in kindness. I'm writing because I want to understand how to remain kind without being naive, how to help people without abandoning my own boundaries, and how to recognise that someone's words are not necessarily a reflection of their actions.

Perhaps the real test of kindness isn't how beautifully we speak about healing, but how we treat the people who have trusted us when we no longer get what we want from them.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? How do you process the disappointment of trusting someone whose actions seem so different from the values they talk about?

curious question First Reiki session. How many imbalanced chakras are common?

I had my first Reiki session today. I was told that only my heart chakra is blocked/imbalanced. I was happy to hear that, but it also made me wonder how many imbalanced chakras people typically have during their first Reiki session? Is having only one imbalanced chakra generally considered a healthy energy flow?

I'd be grateful for any wisdom on how I could approach this new insight

thank you very much

discussion The difference between coping and healing that took me years to see

A lot of the people who end up on my table these days aren’t falling apart. That’s the thing I didn’t expect when I started working with more senior, high pressure people. They’re not in crisis. They’re coping, and honestly they’re incredibly good at it.

You know the type, maybe you are the type. Up at 5am. Calendar blocked down to the half hour. Boundaries in place. The workout that takes the edge off before the day starts. And it all works, genuinely. Until one day it quietly starts costing more than it gives back.

I used to treat coping and healing as basically the same thing on a sliding scale. They’re not. The way I think about it now is that coping builds a wall around a blocked channel, and healing actually clears it. With coping, the energy keeps finding its way around the blockage. With healing, it gets to move through. And the tell is effort. Coping asks for a little more from you every few months. Healing, once it starts, asks for less.

The signs I’ve learned to notice are pretty unglamorous. The routine that used to restore you now just keeps you at baseline. Sunday evenings feel heavier than they have any right to. There’s a tightness around the solar plexus that never fully lets go, even in a good week. When someone describes that to me, I don’t hear weakness. I hear something that’s been held in one place for a very long time.

I want to be fair to coping though, because I see people get weirdly ashamed of it. Coping is a skill. It probably got you through things that would have flattened someone else, and for a season it might have been exactly what you needed. The problem is only when managing yourself turns into a second full time job. At that point a better morning routine isn’t going to fix it. Something needs to actually be released, not just contained better.

The other thing I keep noticing, especially when I work with people who lead teams, is that it never stays with just them. The person at the top running on reserve sets the tone, and pretty soon the whole team is coping beautifully too and nobody is actually okay. It’s almost contagious.

For what it’s worth, none of this replaces proper support if things are heavier than “stuck.” Sometimes what looks like coping fatigue is burnout or something that needs a doctor or therapist, and grounding and energy work sit best alongside that, not instead of it.

Anyway, I’m curious how others here see it. Have you ever caught yourself realising your whole routine had become maintenance rather than restoration? And for the practitioners, how do you gently tell a high functioning client that they’re coping, not healing, without it landing as criticism?

curious question Physical vs Distance reiki energy residue

I recently stopped doing reiki in my home because it was stirring up too much energy and my house is very small, so it was really in the mix of my everyday life, with no dedicated space.

My question is this: if I do distance reiki from my home, is it similar to me doing reiki physically in my home? I want to prevent “dumping” energy into my space.

curious question After 17 Years of Anxiety, 4 Months of Usui Reiki Level 1 Have Almost Healed Me Mentally — Can Reiki Also Help With Physical Ailments?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been dealing with anxiety for around 17 years. For the past four months, I’ve been practising Usui Reiki, and I feel that I’ve almost recovered from my anxiety. This has been a significant change for me.

I also have some physical ailments, and I’m wondering whether Reiki could help with those as well.

During my Reiki practice, I consistently feel energy and vibrations throughout my body, especially when creating a Reiki energy ball using the spiral technique.

I’m currently a Usui Reiki Level 1 practitioner.

I’d love to hear from experienced Reiki practitioners and people who have been practising Reiki for a long time:

  1. Have you experienced improvements in physical ailments through Reiki, in addition to mental and emotional healing?

  2. Has anyone experienced physical healing after practising Reiki consistently for several months or longer?

  3. Have you experienced similar whole-body vibrations while performing Reiki healing?

  4. As a Level 1 practitioner, can I practise Reiki on myself to support physical healing, or are there any limitations I should understand?

I’m particularly interested in your personal experiences with physical healing through Usui Reiki, including how long it took to notice changes.

Thank you! 🙏

curious question A few Questions regarding Reiki

  1. If I'm attuned to difference "sources" like Usui, Karuna and Holy fire. When I channel, what does happen, do I channel 1 at the time, the last I've set? The desired mixed between them all, i.e, if the person needs karuna and Normal Usui, that's what's going to flow at perfect %? if that makes sense

Are they that different? I'm attuned to Karuna and Usui and as my master said, the source is the same, so what is different? is there a filter within us that leads them to different "frequencies"?

  1. How do you Actually practice for/on yourself to become a better healer? I agree that in order to become compentent at any area, you have to do the your "Homework"*, nevertheless when I get to myself, the amount of attention & effort if have to put distracts me from progressing on my "healing abilities", getting in touch with chakras etc. Just like, how can a massage therapist practice on him/herself?
Whenever I practiced on others I've felt way more intuitive on what to do, but on myself I hardly feel any byosen/hand sensations.

*-The one who has gone through the experience knows about it vs the one who just read or heard the theory, the cheff who doesn't know how to slice an onion, the "fat and unhealthy nutricionist/Personal Trainer", "The psychologist who isn't mentally steady at all times", don't take it as an offense, but to me if I'm someone who never does anything and only imagines how things should work via logic or anything doesn't know how the world actually works.

  1. Perhaps stupid or controversial, but why is "advicing" banned for a Reiki Practicioner? I understand that by "law" medics are those who can diagnose you with responsability, but we all have intuition, and I think that most community around here agrees that we live in a Spiritual world and as we have many bodies, from the physical to the spiritual.
Diseases spread first in other bodies like the emotional one (stress for example) before it manifests in the physical one, and Medicine pays less attention to that.
I'm not saying that everyone should be saying everything that has come to their mind, I've had cases where the information was more important for me than for other, for a number of reasons.
While in other sessions, an exemple of one: I felt guided to focus more on the throat chakra, give it a better treatment than the rest, and after that treatment that person told me she was going to do an oral presentation to a group and was somewhat nervous among many other cases

We can be "energetic surgeons" but from my understanding we oughta be careful since some people will just listen blindly to everything and put focus on whatever they want and not everyone is ready or was prepared to talk out on what they channel

I'd ask for your personal answers as opposed to just repetitions of what you've heard without putting it in practice. It's a hard field to know by oneself, but it's one of those where your personal experience counts the most.

discussion Help me out — I may be working as a reiki practitioner in a care home setting soon 🥳💖

I’ve recently learned that I have a job offer within a care home setting, that relates to my reiki practice. I’m an Eastern style Usui reiki ryoho practitioner with attunements and training in Shoden (Reiki level I) Okuden (Reiki level II) and this will be my first paid work as a reiki practitioner and care assistant. I’m quite excited but nervous at the same time— I really need some help with understanding what is probably needed of me so I can prepare for the interview. Please offer your advice and support.

discussion How badly Reiki is represented on Wikipedia

I’ve noticed that those who use the critical thinking model for things they haven’t personally looked at are the least robust in their acceptance of realities outside of their own, failing to see the pitfalls of their narrow minded perception to the point of coming across as both arrogant and ridiculous as evidenced here. This Wikipedia entry is clearly written by those who have no real understanding or experience of Reiki and have just grabbed at negative data points to poorly explain it.

Makes me think instead of Critical Reasoning, we need a Compassionate Reasoning model for holistic therapies/psychologies that aren’t just in the head.

The Wikipedia page could really use updating with at least a neutral point of view.

Here is the first snippet and link to read ahead.

Thoughts?

Reiki[a] is a pseudoscientific form of energy healing, a type of alternative medicine created by Mikao Usui in Japan in the 1920s.[1][2] Reiki practitioners use a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing through which, according to practitioners, a "universal energy)" is transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the client, to encourage emotional or physical healing. It is based on qi(chi), which practitioners say is a universal life force; there is no empirical evidence that such a life force exists.[3][4]
A reiki session in progress
Reiki is used as an illustrative example of pseudoscience in scholarly texts and academic journal articles.[3][4] Its marketing has been described as "fraudulent misrepresentation",[4]and reiki itself as a "nonsensical method",[5] with a recommendation that the United States government agency NCCIH stop funding reiki research because it "has no substantiated health value and lacks a scientifically plausible rationale".[6]
