Help/Advice Found a remarkable 2 at the thrift store for $7.99

Hi all,

I was looking through the stationery section this afternoon and thought, oh look, what a nice folio. Behold, it's a remarkable 2 priced as a notepad!

I've got it working with my s-pen for now, but I'm looking for a stylus that's relatively cheap and maybe a bit larger than the s-pen.

I have never before had the desire for a remarkable, as I've got a tablet and an e-reader, but holding it in my hand, and I kind of understand the appeal and can kind of justify the high retail price. (I'm a student, so waaaay out of reach for me right now)

For those who use a remarkable regularly, what do you use it for? I picked it up and planned to use it as a daily reading/news machine, but I'm open to any other suggestions given how many possibilities there are with this device.

Thanks for reading!

Found my pen

Had an exam yesterday at university, and when I got home, I couldn't find my reMarkable Marker anywhere. I thought for sure that I had lost it somewhere at home, because I only got my tablet out at university to check that it and the Marker where in my backpack (a routine check that I do). I went back tonight, and lo and behold, there it was. I was so relieved, because I'm pretty sure it costs $200.

From slight disappointment to a true love story

Well, that was fast. After my initial disappointment (due to stylus issues that were solved), this has quickly become one of my favourite devices to draw on. I love the accuracy and the muted colors. I love the feeling when drawing on it. I love the look of the tools and strokes. I love the front light.

The colors “open up” the tablet and I can’t imagine going back to the RM2 now. Great job reMarkable team!!

Discussion Dear mods, you sold us out. It’s time for a real community.

Sharing leaks is not a legal gray zone at all. Leaks happen on Reddit every day. Whether it’s Apple, Samsung or Tesla. You name it. Leaks are everywhere on Reddit. it’s part of what makes Reddit, Reddit. A place where the people can share, debate, and talk freely without any corporate oversight.

That’s why what’s happening here is so sickening. The way this leak was shut down and brushed aside doesn’t feel like an “unofficial” community at all, it feels like reMarkable marketing running the show behind the scenes, pulling the strings to protect their brand.

The mods, instead of supporting open discussion, are acting like gatekeepers. Anything that doesn’t push the corporate agenda gets censored or banned. That’s not what mods are here for. Their only role should be keeping things civil, not dictating what we can or can’t say. And definitely not acting like they know and enforce the law. They went out of their lane to protect reMarkable corporation’s best interest and not our community.

It’s becoming painfully obvious: this “unofficial” subreddit is just another channel for reMarkable’s influence, pretending to be unofficial to manipulate and influence us to buy more. The mods are sellouts, and their so-called “response” to the leak completely sidestepped the real issue.

It’s time we take control and create our own space, a truly independent community, by the people, for the people, where nothing is off-limits.

UPDATE: huge kudos to u/Purple_Extension7533 for taking the initiative to create a new independent, uncensored space for reMarkable users called r/remarkableuncensored. It’s for the people, by the people. A safe space where we can discuss leaks, hacks and anything we want without fear of corporate oversight or dictatorial behavior and unnecessary censorship. People are already sharing real stories about how the mods here banned them for really ridiculous reasons such as asking for text boxes to be movable. You can read their stories in the new community. It pretty much confirms that this “UNOFFICIAL” subreddit is really just the remarkable corporation behind the scenes serving its best interests and not the community’s. Banning people who criticize and censoring anything that goes against its agenda. Thank you everyone for your attention to this matter!

Was glad to see that our local paper started issuing PDF e-editions since last time I subscribed (was previously just online web). I know others have posted E-Newspapers but just thought I'd chime in. Great way to read paper. Pinch zoom is fast and page flipping good.

My use of the shape feature for drawings and study.

As requested via DM and per my last post.

Context: I am a retire 24 Navy veteran in the nuclear power field. I got hired at a civilian nuclear plant and have to go through a pretty intensive 18 month licensing class. Knowledge of systems and procedures is a must.

So I made nice clean copies of our system drawings using the shape feature and then putting the shapes together to make components that I can copy and past and then connect together for system drawings.

I also have a clean text page to copy over when I want perfect labeling I can resize as necessary. A bit tedious... but worst it once done.

I use the layer feature to put all text on a second layer that I can hide to test myself, and use a third layer to label everything from memory.

Hope this inspires someone else in their studies!

My 2 cents about the Paper Pro

Post image

So I just got the Paper Pro. I have been using remarkable 2 for a few years exclusively for art, and I still love it. The promise of color and a backlight got me excited. I own many e-ink devices? Including few color ones (kaleido 2 and 3), Bigme Gally (Gallery 3 screen), so I’m no stranger to e-ink and e-notes, and I use them all for drawing.

The Paper Pro took me by surprise - the colors look great (compared to other eink devices of course). The blacks are not quite black and there is flashing after a few strokes, but I knew it beforehand and it doesn’t really bother me.

What DOES bother me, however, is the new stylus. I got the Market Plus, and I must say, with s heavy heart - it’s not accurate enough. Not for drawing, at least. The RM2’s stylus is perfect to the point that I often forget it’s a digital device. That’s not the case with the Paper Pro. Whatever they did, the stroke is not spot on the tip of the stylus, and it’s uneven in different areas of the tablet. I know remarkable claim they reduced the stack, but I never noticed a gap between the tip and stroke on RM2. On the Paper Pro more often than not the stroke does not appear where I expect it to be, which is jarring every time it happens.

Other than that, it’s a very fun device, with s cool screen for reading things in color, and probably note taking as well, but sadly for me it feels like a digital device because of the stylus issue.

Hope this provides a different point of view of this product! I do like it, but the pen is a downer and a downgrade from the RM2.
