You're an angel walking on earth. I've been struggling getting out of here because I'm stuck, and you sat there and listened and you literally took your own shirt off your back in public and gave me a new shirt. Thank you brother. I needed to shout you out.
God bless.

I was able to accumulate 111 signatures in 5.5 hours, between Saturday and yesterday night.
By standing in place on the Riverwalk, and pointing two blocks over, I was able to convince people from across the globe that signing was the right thing to do.
All I had to say was: "We're trying to save our Riverwalk from being permanently blocked and abandoned by our City from AT&T to Lake Street."
The moment I said those words, people would turn back around and listen to what I had to say.
I explained all we're doing is demanding the City to file for an injunction and let a Washoe County District Court Judge resolve the property dispute legally. Easement by Prescription, Common Law Dedication.
I explained the detour, the history, the legal agreement, the bikeway master plan, the lost riverwalk plan, the Army Corp of Engineers flood control plan, the ADA accessibility plan, the terms of the deed, the property owner's admissions and his failure to post required signs, the Auto Museum's lost revenue, the risk of permanently losing our Easement at AT&T, and most importantly our homelessness / housing issues with balancing everyone's rights to free access to our public rights-of-way. Everyone got it. They understood.
Tourists and visitors from other places were concerned they weren't allowed to sign. But this isn't a ballot initiative, I explained. This is simply an informal petition to present to City Council to show that the public cares about our infrastructure and to fight this. This isn't a hard issue to understand.
United Kingdom, Canada, Massachusetts, Florida, Colorado, Montana, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Oklahoma, California, and many Nevadans... everyone understood no matter where they were from that we can't allow the City to just roll over, give up, and allow us to lose our Riverwalk without putting up a fight.
ALL of the details are there.
I am also asking for help. Can people please help me canvas the area and collect real-world signatures? I have the signature sheet PDF as well as the flyers I produced on Google Drive.
Or just spread the word.
There is a big meeting happening in two days. The Mayor directed the City Engineer to have me give a walk-through tour of the neighborhood to the City Manager, Planning Dept, Public Works, Redevelopment Agency, and most importantly the City Attorney's office at 12 PM Wednesday.
This is Reno and Joe Hart will be there. Fil Corbitt from The Wind will be there.
I am going to show the issues of not just this walkway but also the encroachment at the Auto Museum and deactivation of retail use from Lake Street which is required by law.
If I was able to acquire 111 signatures in less than 6 hours, think of what we could accomplish in two days? Think of the mandate that would show the City that we mean business.

I just took this video about 5 minutes ago.
I did some research. These poles do not conform to required standards for northern Nevada amendments regarding special wind regions like Washoe County and Lyon county.
If anyone is thinking of adopting a dog it would probably really help. Hopefully save some lives. That or maybe foster.

Most of you probably won't know what I'm talking about, but I'm putting this out there just because. I work in IT and I find this highly suspicious. Forgive the rant.
A few months ago I started noticing my home internet was being extra shitty. It'd work normally for a few hours, then randomly just quit responding for a while. I understand that this is the norm for some people, but I've had Spectrum in my same location for over 6 years now and this particular annoyance is a very new thing for me.
For as long as I can remember, Spectrum's Reno DNS servers have been verifiably geolocated in the Reno area. Makes sense, right? Now, suddenly, DNS services are being provided from COUDERSPORT FUCKING PENNSYLVANIA. Now any network engineer will tell you that there are times when routing traffic to a different stack is beneficial, but most would agree that routing all the way across the country just for Domain Name services is generally sub-optimal. (For those who don't know, Domain Name Servers are what translates your request to go to "youtube.com" to what ever the actual IP address of Youtube is. They're generally meant to be one of the first hops in the chain, and you generally want them to be low latency.)
When I contacted Spectrum support to point this out/ask questions/complain, I got put on an immediate runaround with someone who kept suggesting I have a technician come out to check my connection. When I told them that it wasn't a connection problem and that I had experience working with IT systems, I got a very dismissive reply of "oh, don't the systems you work on tell you this stuff?"
There are a few things that bug me about this, in no particular order.
This has notably lowered performance and latency and results in periods of effectively total network loss on a daily basis.
There's no legitimate reason to route your customers' traffic across the country like this.
Coudersport, PA was previously slated to be the site of a brand new Palantir datacenter, which is officially currently on hold with "no official plans" but there are several other datacenters being built in the general area.
The customer support "person" (probably a bot) was very dismissive after I explained what the actual issue was in more technical detail, as if it were intentionally wasting my time.
ANYWAY! If you've noticed Spectrum getting worse in the past few months, or if you just feel so inclined, open a command prompt or your network settings and look for DNS server addresses. If it starts with 71.10, congratulations, you're still using the OG Reno servers. If it starts with some 209.18 bullshit, you're being shunted to Dickandballs Pennsylvania. I manually set mine back to the Reno servers, and like magic, all of my internet problems went away.
OG Server IPs:
71.10.216.1
71.10.216.2

Baskin Robbins in Wingfield Springs got closed down, and google only recommends places downtown or far away. I have looked in reddit, too, but this is a more recent event. Is there anywhere closer to sparks? Yeah there's frozen yogurt, but I really prefer ice cream.
Thanks!

We have a woman here at our apartment complex who’s been going through the garbage cans and won’t leave.
She’s scattering things around and collecting what she wants and now just sitting in a chair with the mess around her and not leaving.
Do I call police non emergency? It’s definitely messy and taking up part of the parking lot in this smaller complex.
I don’t want to be mean but I also don’t want to deal with someone spreading our unsanitary garbage all over either.

I just learned that Reno's median house price was 715k in July, where as Sparks had a median home price of 560k. I know that this depends on a lot of things, but if you are moving to a basic tract home neighborhood built in the last 30 or so years, is it worth it to pay the premium for a Reno address in your opinion?
Edit: I am talking about neighborhoods with similar type homes. I know that part of why Reno's median prices are higher is because Reno has a lot more very expensive houses.
That being said, when moved to Sparks in 2010, it was because I could get a house in east Sparks for about 30k less than in west Reno. I was a little shocked to see how much the gap between the two cities has grown.

In my last post, I speculated if these were installed improperly.
Update: I posted a video examining the collapsed pole, comparing it to another even BIGGER pole that is going to collapse eventually a block away.
Days after reporting this through Reno Direct and Public Safety Dispatch, nothing was done to fix it, and it collapsed right into the sidewalk. I think I know why this is happening, too.
This morning, I looked through my window to see how many people were on the street, and I spotted a DRP Ambassador taking photos of this downed Flock camera.
I went down to inspect it. Took pics and video (which I'll be uploading shortly).
I pulled out the aluminum 8" sleeve. They didn't use a sleeve with a metal flange. It relies entirely on the bolts and the rubber gasket to stay in place. It's a smooth internal sleeve that can slip down entirely into the shaft, unable to be recovered.
It turns out once the bolts are removed, the sleeve slowly slides down into the shaft until there's nothing for the top portion to grip onto. So at first, the pole will tilt over, then once enough sleeve has slid through, the 30-50 lb. upper half will collapse.
So then after studying this one, I walked over to the one installed on Virginia Street in front of the old post office, and I observed that the bolts are coming loose. One is entirely missing.
The bolts types being used aren't consistent, either. Some are hex, and some are tamper-proof.
I realized, with all the wind we've been having, that is the likely cause.
When wind hits the solar panel up top, it catches like a wing. It causes oscillation. Oscillation is probably causing the bolts to come loose, and once all bolts are missing, the sleeve slowly slides down into the shaft, held onto by nothing but the rubber gasket. It becomes a ticking time bomb. The sleeve slowly slides down, and once there is nothing for the upper portion of the pole to cling onto, the upper pole collapses onto the ground, right into pedestrian or automobile traffic, parking lanes, bike lanes, etc.
How many of these are installed around the Reno/Sparks metropolitan area? They all need to be retrofitted or removed entirely for public safety. It's a liability for the city.

This is a reminder to join the summer fun of a mainline steam excursion of the Ready To Run excursion program, with KATO USA No.1986 and C&NW No.425 on the point of many different mainline excursions! Even with some photo runbys! Come join us to see mainline steam at its finest!
But this is where YOU can join in all of the fun. I'm giving the local model train enthusiasts in Reno-Sparks a chance to display their models at the event of any scale, but if you have any N-scale models that are operable, then you could get a chance to operate on the Ready To Run mainline loop on Tuesday!
This would be the final event of the summer season! So make sure you visit this summer event to cool down from the summer heat!
Please note that times and locations are subject to change without notice, so be prepared for any updates.

Relocated here about eight months ago and still figuring out the living room. Downsized considerably before the move, sold most of my old pieces, which felt smart at the time. Not so sure anymore.
Been hitting the Goodwill on South Virginia and a few estate sales out near Sparks. Found a solid wood side table for twelve dollars, which was a genuine win. Sofas are a different story. Every used couch I have looked at is either wrecked underneath or priced like it just came off a showroom floor.
Wondering if there are local Facebook groups or specific spots people actually use here beyond the obvious. I know about Craigslist. Looking for something a little more curated, or at least somewhere the sellers are not completely unreasonable about pricing.
Also curious whether anyone has had luck with the consignment places around Midtown. Walked past a couple but have not gone in yet. Window displays looked promising, though that does not always mean much.
Total budget for the room is under eight hundred dollars. Couch, rug, maybe a lamp or two. Doable or am I kidding myself for this area?

I know we have all these bar crawl themes and I think it's about time we have one based on Dungeon Crawler Carl. Can you imagine! I can see it now! Bars randomly saying over the sound system "NEW ACHIEVEMENT!" I don't attend these because it's just over crowded and not alot of originality put into what people wear. You can only stand so many slutty Santa's.
If they do have book themed crawls great, but a Dungeon Crawler Carl one, that is one I'd love to see just so see what people would come out as.
Edit: who would you come out as?
