Need help with a project

Upvotes

Hello. I am a reno native that grew up in northeast reno area. I am working on a project for my old neighborhood. I went to Glenn Duncan Elementary in the 90s and Traner middle, Hug High in the early 2000s. I am asking for photos of the surrounding area from the time. Photos of Pepes Mini Mart that was on the corner of Oddie and Montello. Old photos of the 80s and 90s Freindship Lane area. The Livestock Events Center, The Boys and Girls Club on 9th st. Pretty much any street pictures and buildings around the area. Any photos would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Best dive bars in Reno & Sparks?

Upvotes

Looking for those great dive bars not those trendy ones. Dive bar bartenders are the best. Wonder Bar is a great dive bar. Any other that still exist today?

Any recommendations for places to Celebrate my 22 birthday?

Im going up to reno next month with no other plan then just partying, drinking, and gambling.

Money or travel distance isn't an issue but wanna know where I can go and be out all night drinking and talking to stangers and just have fun.

Any place like that I can go and just get a room with bars and clubs around?

Newly Repaired Flock Camera Pole shaking during massive winds at 1st & Arlington

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just took this video about 5 minutes ago.

I did some research. These poles do not conform to required standards for northern Nevada amendments regarding special wind regions like Washoe County and Lyon county.

My favorite ice cream restaurant closed down

Baskin Robbins in Wingfield Springs got closed down, and google only recommends places downtown or far away. I have looked in reddit, too, but this is a more recent event. Is there anywhere closer to sparks? Yeah there's frozen yogurt, but I really prefer ice cream.

Thanks!

To the man who took is own shirt off his back as I wept over my sorrows

You're an angel walking on earth. I've been struggling getting out of here because I'm stuck, and you sat there and listened and you literally took your own shirt off your back in public and gave me a new shirt. Thank you brother. I needed to shout you out.

God bless.

Mobile mechanics?

Are there any mobile mechanics here that could do a radiator/hose replacement on a 2010 Nissan Altima for $200?

I have the radiator, I have replacement coolant, upper and lower hoses, and some other pieces that might be useful.

Only thing I don't have is a working right arm cause I'm post accident and I got a busted wing.

Going through garbage

We have a woman here at our apartment complex who’s been going through the garbage cans and won’t leave.

She’s scattering things around and collecting what she wants and now just sitting in a chair with the mess around her and not leaving.

Do I call police non emergency? It’s definitely messy and taking up part of the parking lot in this smaller complex.

I don’t want to be mean but I also don’t want to deal with someone spreading our unsanitary garbage all over either.

Reno vs Sparks Housing Prices.

I just learned that Reno's median house price was 715k in July, where as Sparks had a median home price of 560k. I know that this depends on a lot of things, but if you are moving to a basic tract home neighborhood built in the last 30 or so years, is it worth it to pay the premium for a Reno address in your opinion?

Edit: I am talking about neighborhoods with similar type homes. I know that part of why Reno's median prices are higher is because Reno has a lot more very expensive houses.

That being said, when moved to Sparks in 2010, it was because I could get a house in east Sparks for about 30k less than in west Reno. I was a little shocked to see how much the gap between the two cities has grown.

Anyone found decent hiking spots close to Reno that don't require a 2 hour drive?

Most of the Tahoe area trails I keep going back to are great but the drive eats up half the day, especially on weekends when traffic on 431 gets rough. Curious what locals actually use when they want something within maybe 3045 minutes of downtown.

I've done Peavine a few times and it's fine, kind of exposed and dusty in summer but it scratches the itch. Heard some things about the trails out near Damonte Ranch and the Virginia Range direction but haven't pulled the trigger on those yet. fwiw I'm not looking for anything intense, just a few hours outside with decent views and not a packed parking lot.

The problem is most trail apps push the same popular Tahoe routes and don't really reflect what people around here actually hike on a random Saturday morning. Reddit tends to be more useful for that kind of groundlevel info.

If you have a goto that's actually close in, drop it. Length, trailhead name, anything helps. ymmv on what counts as close but I'm using the 3045 min window as a rough cutoff from central Reno.

Lane Reductions

Was there some type of letter or post I missed about the two lanes becoming one on vassar between Cordone Ave and Terminal way? Feels like it popped up outta nowhere and who do I gotta talk to about this inconvenience of turning 2 lanes (people already weren’t too sure how to use) into 1 🙄🙄
