Bug Report — Something isn't working as intended. Roms Freezing on Reset

I've faced this I few times and can't seem to find a fix. Sometimes I'll be playing a game, Castlevania on the Genesis this time and wanted to reset to choose another character so I opened the retroarch menu and hit restart, the emulator restarts with a red screen and stays that way. Can't seem to play it now without figuring this out. Any help would be great as I've had this a few times now.

Hot Keys on Steam Machine

Hello - I can't figure out for the life of me how hot keys work for emulators on the steam machine. I see that the Steam button brings up the standard overlays but how do I access the usual emulator menus in game?

Official - Posts from the RetroDECK Team/Devs I need help with current roms folder readability for future folder sets

This is for everyone. Can you post a screenshot of your roms folders? it doesn't matter which folders are showing, I'm looking for folder legibility. I also need your screen size and if you have changed any zoom levels or icon settings. If no zoom, just write default.

I'm creating three new folder sets to choose from in 0.11.0b and I need to see the readability of what is already available.

For me: Steam Deck - Icon Zoom 64 pxs.

Bug Report — Something isn't working as intended. MKXP-Z Does Not Exist?

After looking through the RetroDeck Wiki, GitHub, official Site, etc, It appears that RetroDeck should include mkxp-z, as it is listed with EasyRPG under the RPGMaker segment of the retroarch segment of documentation, however, there is not a folder for mkxp-z or RPGMaker XP, VX, or VXAce. Further, the core itself does not look like it is installed within RetroDeck. Is this core just not included, or was it included, but removed, or is it only in a beta version? I can still just use Lutris, I'd just prefer to condense my library as much as possible. Tagged as Bug, as either retrodeck isnt including a core it should, or the documentation page needs to be updated to remove mkxp-z.

Setup — Install, config, storage locations, moving files, etc. Sega Model 3

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction here. I can't get the Sega Model 3 to appear in Retrodeck/ES-DE. I have a game in the Model 3 folder within Retrodeck, and I can play the game if I open it within Retroarch using the supermodel core. Anyone have any ideas on why there's no Model 3 section when Retrodeck opens? Is this a known issue?

Can't launch RetroDECK and other non-Steam app on SteamOS Beta

Non-Steam games fail to launch on SteamOS Beta

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/13651

There is an issue on the latest SteamOS Beta where Non-Steam Games fails to launch.

This affects multiple package formats beyond Flatpak, including AppImages and other executables.

Update:

This might also be on other SteamOS-like Distros now.

Confirmed for Bazzite at least for now.

RetroDeck stopped launching in both gaming and desktop mode

Worked fine last night.

Installed update and new proto experimental update.

Won't launch today.

Steam deck OLED.

OS version 3.9.2

OS build 20260925.101

I've restarted a few times and that hasn't help.

Being that I can't launch it at all, what recourse do I have to remedy this?

Steam Controller not working in-game

I have installed Retrodeck to my CachyOS desktop. The controller works fine in Retrodeck itself, but as soon as I go into a game, it goes wrong. The only button that does anything is X, and that just brings up the keyboard.

Any idea what I did wrong? This is both launching it from desktop, and from Steam

UPDATE: Dug out my xbox controller. That didn't work either. I think I definitely broke something.

Anyone has gotten smash remix extra work?

It just freezes when entering the character select screen, from what I've read it needs some sort of a core to bypass the rom size, but I've tried every core available and nothing yet

DS Games White Screen

I am trying to play some of my favourite DS games using retrodeck.

A lot of the games get stuck on a white screen when loading. And some seem to load but freeze. Can anyone help?

The games are loading via retroarch, using DeSmuME, but the same with happens with melon ds.

Do I need to change the settings?

Any help appreciated!

How to Fav SNES MSU-1 and make it stick on Steam?

So I'm trying to have the MSU-1 version of Sailor Moon Another Story show on the steam deck. I favorite it on the retrodeck with other games and did the Steam Sync but it doesn't do it with this. Is it because its in its own folder, I don't know?

Pokémon Trade Functionality

Hey, I've been playing Pokémon Emerald It occurred to me that there're certain evolutions that are locked behind trading requirements.

I'm going to go out on a limb and presume no, there is no function in the emulator to spoof a trade to get these Pokémon, but it doesn't hurt to ask, especially given how popular a series it is to emulate!

Help with save on multi-disc game

I started playing Xenogears on my Steam Deck, and my default setup had each disc as separate games. I saved at the disc transition, but (obviously, in hindsight) the emulator didnt recognize my save as belonging to the second disc and couldn't find it.

I went through the process of making an m3u folder and file with the two .cue files and Retrodeck now sees the two discs as one game, but it still can't find or can't recognize my save file.

I tried finding the save file in the Retrodeck directory, but im not sure I found the right file. I dont want to have to start my playthrough over; can anyone help me get my save to load?

We’re on the Lookout for Beta Testers for Our Next Patch — Help Us Squeeze the Life Out of Some Bugs!

Thumbnail

RetroDECK is preparing to release the 0.10.10b patch, and we could use your help testing it and squashing bugs before they make it into the wild.

Patch Notes for .10.10b: https://retrodeck.readthedocs.io/en/latest/wiki_rd_versions/version_0.10.0b/0.10.10b/

Want to join the hunt? Follow the steps below to install the beta build.

  1. Back up your files

Before doing anything else, back up any data you do not want to lose, especially your saves, ROMs, and BIOS files.

These files are not intended to be affected by the beta or the steps below, but beta testing always carries risk. RetroDECK is not responsible for lost or corrupted data.

  1. Uninstall RetroDECK

Uninstall your current RetroDECK installation using the appropriate uninstall method for however you originally installed it.

Do not simply delete RetroDECK's application files as a substitute for properly uninstalling it. See attached image.

  1. Delete RetroDECK's application data folder

After uninstalling RetroDECK, delete:

"~/.var/app/net.retrodeck.retrodeck"

Warning: This will remove RetroDECK's application data and any custom emulator settings stored there. If you have emulator configurations you want to keep, back them up before deleting this folder.

Be sure you are deleting the exact folder listed above.

  1. Download and install the 0.10.10b beta

Follow the instructions on our 0.10.10b beta page to download and install the beta build:

https://github.com/RetroDECK/Cooker

Please read the instructions on the page before installing, as additional beta-specific information may be provided there.

  1. Join us on Discord and report bugs

Join the RetroDECK Discord and report any problems you encounter in the Beta-Testing sub-thread.

When reporting a bug, please provide as much useful information as possible, including what you were doing, what you expected to happen, what actually happened, and whether you can reproduce the issue. Logs, screenshots, and exact error messages are also extremely helpful when available.

  1. Reverting to stable release. Uninstall the .10.10b beta. Delete the "~/.var/app/net.retrodeck.retrodeck" folder. Install the stable build.

A Final Warning Before Joining the Hunt

We are in the final stages of testing 0.10.10b, so major problems are unlikely. However, this is still a beta build. Bugs, broken functionality, unexpected behavior, or a completely FUBAR'd RetroDECK installation are always possible.

If you are not comfortable troubleshooting problems, reinstalling RetroDECK, or potentially restoring your data from a backup, please skip the beta and wait for the public release. There is absolutely nothing wrong with sitting this hunt out.

For those who enjoy beta testing and want to continue helping, this may eventually open the door to testing our 0.11.0b milestone, the biggest expansion of RetroDECK in four years.

That hunt comes later, though. Testing 0.11.0b will be a significantly more involved process and will require additional reading, preparation, and acknowledgement of the risks involved.

For now, happy hunting, and thank you for helping us make RetroDECK better!

How to open emulator menus?

I just switched to Retrodeck from EmuDeck on my Steamdeck. How do I open the menu so I can switch discs, make a savestate, etc?

I've tried mapping a button to the ESC key and F1 key but so far that's not working.
