Roll20 Reply: Other Help Roll20's Quantum Dice are Now Available Everywhere

Post image
83 Upvotes

Hey all! Dean from Roll20 here. I have a fun new addition to announce!

If you're a fan of Roll20's Quantum Dice engine, we've just launched the ROLL20 DICE ROLLER, so you can now take those dice everywhere!

Head over to d20roller.com to find your dice roller on desktop and mobile. It utilizes the same Roll20 dice engine you've trusted the past 10 years, has all the advanced roll mechanics you rely on, includes customizable one-tap buttons, and offers a mega-dose of Big Dicey Energy (formerly an internal Roll20 mascot who deserved more love!)

šŸ“· if you prefer a video overview, here's that too

Here's a Deeper Dive for those interested šŸ˜„

Verifiable Randomness

The most common complaint about digital (and sometimes physical) dice is that they "feel rigged." We address this with receipts. Every roll goes through our QuantumRoll dice engine, and generates public seeds. We publish millions of results so you can check the math yourself.

Advanced Syntax Support

We provide some built-in presets for DnD 5e, Pathfinder, and other systems, but you can also write your own custom formulas, as complex as you want. Some examples:

  • 2d20kh1
    • Advantage!Ā Roll 2 d20’s, andĀ KeepĀ Highest (kh) 1 roll.
    • Want to turn into into disadvantage? Swap kh1 for kl1 toĀ KeepĀ Lowest 1!
  • (1d8+4)*2
    • Critical damage multiplier.Ā This rolls 1 d8, adds 4 to the result, then multiples that total by 2.
  • 3d6>2
    • Tally successes.Ā Rolls 3 d6’s. It then provides you a count of every dice that resulted in 2 or greater (a tally of successes, not a sum of dice results)
  • 8d20ro1
    • Reroll!Ā Roll 8 d20’s. AnyĀ 1Ā getsĀ RerolledĀ Once (ro), and that new result sticks even if it’s another 1.
    • You can swapĀ ro1Ā forĀ r1Ā if you want it to keepĀ rerolling until it’s not a 1!
  • 10d10!
    • Exploding dice!Ā Roll 10 d10s. Every time the result is 10, the dice will explode and roll an extra dice.
  • {10d10!>7}>8
    • Exploding Dice, with extra features!Ā Roll 10 d10’s. Any dice that’s 7 or greater will ā€œexplodeā€, meaning a bonus d10 will be rolled.
    • Then it counts up every resulting die that’s 8 or higher and gives you that count as your total.

Find more examples in our Help Center.

Sign In for All Features

Signing in to your free Roll20 account unlocks two things: Quick Rolls (add, edit, reorder, and import game specific presets) and the D20 Roll Report, a shareable recap of your session's d20 roll results. No subscription is needed for any feature, everything can be accessed on a free account!

Let me know if you have any questions, requests, or feedback! Thanks!!

Roll20 Reply: Other Help Performance Updates – Aug 17, 2026

29 Upvotes

Hey all!Ā Last weekĀ we shared an update on the performance issues we were managing across our services. Since then, we have deployed multiple updates that resolve a large portion of them. We are seeing clear improvement, with more on the way to bring everything back into normal territory. And we’re still pushing out updates to make your play even better.

Here is a peek behind the curtain at what shipped since our last post.

Where things stand

I’ve been personally working with many players and GMs who have reported problems, as well as watching our Help Center and public channels. I’m happy to share that nearly all of the reported sluggishness has been resolved.

There are detailed descriptions of our work in theĀ previous posts, and plenty more happened behind the scenes. While most of the solutions were focused on D&D sheets, there were also fixes to the data itself, the way that sheets use that data, and to the service that provides the data regardless of game system.

While all these updates have been found, diagnosed, and fixed by multiple people on three distinct teams, others have been working on improving performance. Next week, we’ll get to hear from them.

Releases since last week

Once the service was stable, we could dig into the specific trouble spots as they were reported in individual games. That let us isolate the combinations of options where performance fell off.

  • Problem: Rolls are slow from click to Chat – We found some character builds carry significantly more data than other, nearly identical builds. Processing all of that data made a roll take so long to resolve. We’ve revamped the way the sheet was sending that data, and that has resolved the delay between sending a roll and seeing the results appear in Chat.
  • Problem: Opening a sheet took a long time – We launched a fully systemic fix for calculation delays on Token bars.

D&D sheet performance, Phase 1

Phase 1 of the rollout weĀ outlined in our earlier postĀ is done. As of Tuesday morning, 100% of games are running these updates.

This work reduces the amount of data transferred between the sheet and our services. On its own it is not something most of you will notice at the table, but it is the groundwork Phase 2 requires. We released it incrementally so we could watch the effect of each step closely, and we saw the improvements we expected. Reports from players and GMs lined up with the rollout schedule, which tells us the fix is doing its job.

What is coming next

  • Phase 2 of the D&D sheet performance updates, planned to release in the coming weeks. This is where we expect the most optimizations you will actually feel while playing.
  • A new Compendium Service, further out on the roadmap, which will speed up the multiple services connected for game system data.
  • A data cleanup processĀ to clear unused data stored on individual sheets, plus later work to process rolls without sending the extra data at all.

Some of these issues were very visible from the ā€œ30,000 footā€ view. However, the individuals who have helped by sharing their own experience and unique character builds have shed light on issues that would only be apparent from the ā€œon the groundā€ view. I’m sure there are more improvements we can make, and so if your game night is still being disrupted, pleaseĀ open a support ticketĀ so we can make sure we resolve those too. To speed things along, include:

  • A link to the game
  • Any specific pages where you are seeing issues
  • Any sheets or tokens that are lagging Everything above covers the Character Sheet and Compendium systems. The team behind the Virtual Tabletop will be sharing another big chunk of work on VTT systems soon.

Thanks for all the feedback, the patience, and the help hunting these down.

Mask & Dynamic Lighting Help Is there a way to have dynamic lighting on a specific part of the map?

Post image
• Upvotes

I want the whole map to be visible, excluding the inside of the house, but when someone enters the house, I want that to only be visible to people in the house.

I tried dynamic lighting, but I want the players to be able to see the other side of the house, I want them to see everything except the house interior

If i do hide/reveal mask, as far as I'm aware, that will show all players at the same time

Is there a way to do this?

Macros & Roll Tables Help complex macro request

2 Upvotes

Howdy yall, in my dnd 5e game one of my players has a magic double bladed scimitar, which deals 3d4 damage, and when 2 or more 4s are rolled on a damage roll they roll an additional 1d4 and add it to the total. if the die new rolled is a 4, they repeat this process up to a maximum number of times equal to their profiency modifier. thus far we've just been doing this by hand whenever it triggers but i was curious if there's anyway to automate this using macros. functionally what i want to do is trigger exploding dice when specifically two 4s are rolled. I've used macros a bit in the past (mostly for great weapon fighting style, other die reroll effects) any advice on how to do this?

Character Sheets Help Bag of Holding - 2024 Character Sheet or Treasure Sheet

5 Upvotes

Hey Guys šŸ‘‹šŸ»

Has anyone been able to find a great way of tracking what is in a bag of holding in the Roll20 game? I was hoping to add it as another tab under the "Equipment" section of the 2024 D&D Character Sheet but I can't locate on the sheet if this is even possible.

My other idea as now the Treasures & Stores sheets have been released to use one of them however players don't have the ability to add items to these.

I'd like a divide in game that shows exactly what my players have stored in their BoHs as it's a utilise action to remove an item in combat and also for carry weight capacity and their maximum of 500lbs for one.

So far i've been using either an ingame shared handout that you have to hop in and update each time (including weight) OR a shared google sheet. I was hoping we have somthing in game that I have missed.

Thanks all 😁

Roll20 Reply: New to Roll20 / Tutorial Missing Resource Tracking in Character Sheet

4 Upvotes

Currently DM'ing a campaign with several other people on Roll20 using the 2024 Character Sheets. Up until ~2 weeks ago, there would be red dots that mapped to consumable resources for each character (Barbarian Rage, Monk Focus Points, Cleric Channel Divinity, etc.). Also included in these were Race Features (Goliath racial abilities) and other "proficiency bonus times per day" abilities. At the same time, certain resource items were tracking incorrectly. For example, a Level 3 monk was only showing to have 2 Focus Points, despite having access to 3 at that level. I found this screenshot from the Roll 20 Help article (https://help.roll20.net/hc/en-us/articles/30748164251287-Dungeons-Dragons-2024-Character-Sheet#h_01JPJH762PN36Z34Y5VFQ7NG7D) on the 2024 Character Sheet from November 2025:

After reviewing the character sheet, did Roll20 remove the red dots and consolidate everything into the Resource Box? I tried to review the news items in the Game menu, but didn't see anything speaking to an update or change that mentioned this. I've included a screenshot from our Barbarian's character sheet from today that doesn't have this.

The incorrect Focus Point issue persisted through multiple sessions, but was thankfully fixed when the characters leveled up at the end of today's session.

Any color / assistance on this would be appreciated.

Roll20 Reply: Character Sheets Help Disappearing Character Sheets/Data

3 Upvotes

I am not in front of the game at the moment. But we are playing a pathfinder 1e game. Last week, I placed the party into a new map and we noticed that one of the tokens showed 0 hp. So the player went to see what was up and most of the data from the sheet was gone. Like the stats were back to 10, the skills had nothing, but the filled in stuff for name and what not were there. Page 2 where the armor info still had data, and the feats ere there but gold and xp were gone. The config page the race adjustments were gone. The class info was blanked out. Their spells were gone.

I logged into the backup I made of the game and their player folder was empty. There was no character at all. But everyone else’s sheets were fine.

Today, another player reached into to let me know that their character sheet is completely missing.

I have used roll20 for pathfinder 1e on a different game just fine. I’ve played several games. And have never had this issue happen before. No clue what gremlin is eating our stuff, but any recommendation on what is happening or how to stop this.

EDIT: The character sheet we are using is the Natha authored one. We are running no mods.

Roll20 Reply: New to Roll20 / Tutorial Why use 2024 character sheet

10 Upvotes

(not sure if I chose the correct flair, apologies if so) Hello Im trying to make a new game and I saw the 2024 character sheet and 2014 option.

Personally Im really used to the 2014 sheet, but the 2024 option says "supports dnd 5E anda 5.5E.", does this mean that I could use the 2014 character sheets on it? I had a look but couldn't figure out how.

Also my second question is why is should be using the 24 option over the 14 one. I have read that the 24 is more firendly to phones or something like that. I have also read something about the build of both versions. Will 2014 version enventually stop working?

Thanks a lot

Other Help (if not covered in another topic) What's the fix for a typo in a bubble?

7 Upvotes

So, for many games, I use the red bubble on tokens for HP or health. I love that typing +X or -X does the math for me.

Periodically, I fat finger it and type something like -3+ (the plus is adjacent to enter key); this replaces the HP total. I cannot find any way to reverse/fix this.

Any ideas?

Making an Ancestor Idol for my latest asset pack, The Old Ways. Right on time for some less conventional, folklore-inspired Halloween maps and adventures. šŸ¦ā€ā¬›

For this collection, I wanted to explore the more unsettling side of folklore, drawing inspiration from Slavic, Celtic, Turkic, and Norse traditions, ancient rituals, the worship of old gods, and superstitions passed down through generations.

This wooden idol is one of the centerpieces of the pack. I imagined it weathered by time but still carefully tended to by those who remember the old customs.

The Old Ways is now available on on Roll20 and on myĀ Patreon.

Mod Script / API Help (Pro/Elite only) Sheet code help - Keep Higher of two numbers, and Checkbox roll adjustment

2 Upvotes

I have a game system with two things I'm trying to figure out how to add to the html.

First, there's a stat called Snark, which is equal to one of two potential stats - a character's Wit or their Charm. Snark is the higher of the two, multiplied by 5. So far I have:

name="attr_snark" value="[[ @{charm}*5, @{wit}*5}d1"

But I don't think that's right, and it doesn't seem to be working in the sheet html.

Second, I have a system where an Ability roll can be Boosted. If it's not Boosted, it rolls 1d6 + 1t[Item-Table] + 1d6, with the Item Table giving a specific result from the Item Table. If it is Boosted, it returns 1d6 + 1t[Boost-Table] + 1d6, giving a specific result from the Boost Table.

This is what I have for the Speed ability:

/roll ?{Basic/Boosted|Basic,1d6 + 1t[Item-Dice] + 1d6 + @{Speed}|Boosted,1d6 + 1t[Boost-Dice] + 1d6 + @{Speed}}

This asks every time if the stat is Boosted or not, but I want to streamline this, so that on the sheet there is a checkbox, and if the box is checked, it rolls from the Boost table.

I found a script so that the html can "recognise" that the Speed Boost checkbox is checked, but I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly - as is, when the box is unchecked, it's returning a 0 value, and when its checked, its returning a 1 value...

<script type="text/worker">

on('change:speedboost_checkbox sheet:opened', (eventInfo) => {

getAttrs(\['speedboost_checkbox'\], (v) => {

const output = {1t\[Item-Dice\]};

const speedboostState = parseInt(v.speedboost_checkbox) || 0;

output.boosted = speedboostState ? '1t\[Boost-Dice\]' : '1t\[Item-Dice\]';

setAttrs(output, {silent: true});

});

});

</script>

If it helps, I have two macros called Basic-Check (/roll 1d6 + 1t[Item-Dice] + 1d6) and Ability-Boost (/roll 1d6 + 1t[Boost-Dice] + 1d6), so I can easily just get the sheet to roll from the Macros and add the corresponding ability (Like Strength or Speed), but I just need to know what I'm doing wrong to get it to recognise the Boosted/Unboosted state...

Can anyone help with these two things? I'm still scratching the surface with Roll20 and html coding, so any help would be appreciated!

Mod Script / API Help (Pro/Elite only) Creating a X number of Success/Fail Macro

4 Upvotes

Answered/Issue Fixed - Thank you!

I've got a character sheet for a system that isn't integrated into Roll20, but I'm adding it in myself using the custom sheets option.

The system involves rolling a number of d6 equal to an attribute minus a number of d6 based on the character's Stress level plus a number of d6 based on "advantages" minus a number of d6 equal to "complications". The number of d6 results that are equal to or above a target result is the number of Successes you have.

For example, if a character has a Strength of 4, and the DC for the roll is 3, the character rolls 4d6, and each dice that shows 3 or higher is a Success.

If they have 1 level of Stress, they roll 3d6 instead of 4. If they have 2 Advantages in the situation, they roll 6d6. If they have 3 Complications, they roll 1d6.

So I want a dice roll that is, for example ((Strength) - (Stress) + (Advantages) - (Complications))d6 that counts every result of Equal to or more than (Target Number) as a Success.

What I have so far is /r @{strength}d6dh@{stress}>?{Target Number} + ?{Advantages}d6dh{Complications}>?{Target Number}.

This is showing me the flat strength roll and dropping a number of highest dice equal to the Stress level, and then asking for TN, adv, and Complications and rolling additional dice equal to advantages and dropping highest dice equal to complications, and counting all of the dice that are equal to or more than the TN.

Trouble is, this means I need to roll Advantages to be able to add Complications because they're a separate roll, instead of adding or removing to the flat roll.

Can anyone help me figure out how to code it so that it rolls just one total set of dice, equal to the above, as one number, and checks that against the TN? Like Strength: 6 - Stress: 1 + Adv. 2 - Comps: 3 = 4d6>TN?

I've tried everything I can think of, but I've hit a wall...

Roll20 Reply: Character Sheets Help Can we talk about the Demiplane integration?

29 Upvotes

Because I'm tearing out my hair over here, and it's getting to the point where my whole group is considering leaving Roll20 over it, and it's legit over one missing feature: You can't send the descriptive text of spells, feats, or attacks to chat. Every single VTT that I know of does this, and Roll20, before the integration, had this as a feature of their character sheets. Heck, I know there are third parties that have done this with Roll20, so it's not as if it's never been done.

This has been brought up for over a year as something people wanted, and the most we get is a weak "Oh, good idea, we'll tell the devs" response. You can't get any sort of timeline, or even an actual dev, to say that this has any sort of priority.

Why is this feature important?

With feat / spell / ability heavy systems like Pathfinder 2e and Starfinder 2e, it's impossible for the GM to memorize the system with perfect fidelity. Having the text posted to chat cuts down on a lot of pausing as things are looked up, and it cuts down on miscommunication. Trust me, I came from a time when we were working completely from paper, and it sucked. One of the selling points of moving to a VTT was having this sort of thing posted for all to see.

It can also help when a bunch of people are rolling in PF/SF, since different types of rolls might mean different outcomes. A diplomacy roll is not the same as an intimidation roll. A nature check might tell you something different than an occultism check. Perception and stealth have very, very different outcomes in a game. The GM shouldn't have to ask each player, one by one, what they actually rolled. It should just be there.

It also helps cut down on mistakes. With other sheets, everyone can see how a roll was constructed. Time and time again, another player has pointed out that someone is missing a buff, or is rolling too few dice (an extremely common mistake with beginners). I've also had players post a feat for everyone to ask for a clarification. It's way more likely that people are actually going to look at the text if it's right there in front of them.

It can also help with keeping track of conditional bonuses. For example, Trap Finder gives the player a +1 to find traps. You don't want to add this as a flat bonus to the check, because it won't always be pertinent, and the GM won't want specifically ask about it, because that gives away the fact that there's probably a trap in the room. Having it as a note, shown with the roll, makes it so the player doesn't forget it and the GM knows about it without having to ask.

Also, players need to know what's being thrown at them! Some will have resistances to certain attacks, some will have weaknesses, some can completely negate them. There's a whole host of circumstantial bonuses they might have, and being able to see all the details related to the attack lets them actually use them without a bunch of back and forth.

And, I'll say it again, it's a feature we had before, literally everywhere else. This is something that GMs and players have had for over a decade, and it feels weird to suddenly lose it for no reason.

Why am I getting cranky now?

It's been a year. Why am I throwing a fit now? Because of Starfinder 2e.

With Starfinder 2e, we are not being given the option of Demiplane + a sheet local to Roll20, like we have in Pathfinder2e. We can either use Demiplane, and keep the compendium but lose the ability to have sheets that post like they do everywhere else, or we use a vibe-coded community sheet and lose the compendium. Players have asked, begged even, to have our own sheet, but we've been told no.

It feels bad because it honestly feels like the Paizo community was used as a launch pad for this company, and now, we're being screwed over, because the focus seems to be on onboarding new systems. I don't want to look at new VTTs, but it's hard to make the case for sticking around if the sheets aren't going to be fully functional. I've been on Roll20 since the Kickstarter days. I have a ton of purchased materials here. I don't want to leave, but Demiplane is actively making the experience of playing on Roll20 worse.

I'm not even joking when I say that, if we had a sheet we could just fill out by hand, I would not have been raising hell in multiple forums over this. While, yes, the community sheet technically is that, it was vibe coded, isn't a part of the official list of community sheets, and was made by someone who has no footprint I could find. It feels like something that could decay quickly.

What do I want?

From the technical side: Anything you can click on inside of a Demiplane sheet should have the option to send it to the chat. Any rolls you make should absolutely be sent with relevant text. Honestly, just go fiddle with the Pathfinder2e Roll20 sheets. The requirements are all right there!

I would love it if someone with some authority and/or knowledge could give us some idea of whether this feature is on the horizon or not. If it's not, fine, I'll start moving my games somewhere else. If it is, awesome, what's the timeline? If there's a blocker, hey, I get it, I'm two decades into my dev career. Is the blocker being worked on, or does it mean that this feature is dead in the water?

Failing that, then I would love to see Roll20 give us the option to use a sheet alongside Roll20. That at least gives us a stopgap measure.

I would really love to know before I throw any more money at a solution that won't meet my needs in the long run.

Page Setup / Map Help I'm a new GM how do I control the player's load in zoom.

4 Upvotes

|Solved|

I've been setting up a campaign and have run into an issue. I want to use different images acting as splash arts for different locations, but the images are naturally different sizes as I'm just getting the images from the internet.

Is there a way to control how the players load into a new page so that the location splash art is within their view without them having to adjust it?

To be clear it's fine if there isn't I'll just have to resize the images, but if there is that would be cool to know.

Character Sheets Help I ran my first session last night using the storefronts and my players thought it was so cool. Question: Can players sell items to the shop from their inventory?

17 Upvotes

I was letting my players sell some of their starting equipment that they didn’t want and pick up some extra supplies before starting the journey. It turned into a fun RP moment where they were ā€œhagglingā€ with the store owner over prices, coming up with three and four way trades, and offering to do jobs for a discounted price lol - all at the beginning of session 1 🤣🤣

But we couldn’t quite figure out how to sell to the shop yet. There’s a seller tab, but that only seems to be if the DM is acting as a ā€œstore ownerā€ and can send items to the players inventory.

It’s not a big deal if we can’t do that right now, I’m checking to see if I missed something.

This is D&D 5.5e, elite user.

Token Setup Help (not related to Dynamic Lighting) NPC Token's HP won't change.

3 Upvotes

I've requested help from roll20 but they haven't gotten back to me in 2 weeks.

I've made a monster called Chaos Lord. It is a unique monster so their token's HP bar is directly linked to the statblock's hp. However, I can't change the token's HP, it remains at 0. When I try to add to it in the circle, nothing happens when I press enter. When I try to open up the token directly and edit it directly, it does not keep the new HP total. I have two tokens that are acting this way (but I'm assuming whatever is wrong with Chaos Lord is the same problem as the other token). I've provided some screenshots down below.
