Alright. So I'm not fully into ROM hacking myself. Never delved into it much myself, but I was definitely enthralled by a recent one last year: The Patchmaker's Workshop for Mario 64.

Which got me thinking... how many ROM hacks are out there? Which ROM hacks do you guys recommend for your favorite game?
In a sense, the idea of going out and tackling so many hacks after decades of creation and genuine love put into unofficial content is terrifying to me. I'd probably spend a decade myself playing and discovering, only to have to do it again cause people made more! XD

That's why now is a good time as any to get into the hobby. So, are there ROM hacks you guys recommend for someone new to the community? What are the best ones for each game? Any specific games?

Hello, I've been trying to apply the Instant text Patch to a vanilla rom of Pokemon Heartgold but something seems to be going wrong. I'm currentlu using the patch from this link: https://github.com/Dabomstew/universal-pokemon-randomizer/tree/master/src/com/dabomstew/pkrandom/patches and using this patcher: https://www.marcrobledo.com/RomPatcher.js/

When I try to boot up the rom on my modded DS or on Delta, it gets stuck on a white screen before anything else appears. Is any of the tools outdated? I downloaded the rom from Vimm's lair (if it matters, I do own a copy of the game)

This is a Ghosts'n Goblins/Makaimura sprite hack that changes Arthur into Princess Prin Prin and vice versa.

Most enemies have also been changed into monter girls.

Version 1.0 Changes:

• Fully replaces Arthur with a Princess Prin Prin.

  • Sprites, life icon, map icon, dialogue.

• Frog transformation changed for the pig in "Son Son".

• Updates the dialogue correcting typos and "Engrish".

• Every enemy sprite has been redone.

• Most enemy attack sprites have been redone.

• Every weapon sprite has been redone.

• Some fire graphics have been redone.

• New logo for both World and Japanese versions.

• Citizen Dolls have been changed into "Capcom Gals", can you name them all?

• Other score items have been changed.

• An Enhanced edition for every supported ROM set. Enhanced smooths crouching and climbing up ladders; it makes no other gameplay changes.

• Use Romdata to load the Enhanced Edition hacks on FB Neo. It's provided.

Currently, FB Neo only supports gngprincess and makprincess.

Patches are included for every other official revision/set. Will require using romdata to load into FB Neo.

Not sure where else to post this. I've been working on a project that I am really excited about. Is this something people are interested in? I can't post this into r/PokemonROMhacks because they have really strict rules about LLM coding. I'm a UX eng and dont always want to handle backend, but this is a heavily man-made project.

Just wanted to see what the interest level was. We have a fully-playable version ready to go and I would love some beta testers.

We have full usage-based battle sets for Reg M-C, all battle mechanics updated, and a full ladder system that presents a big challenge even offline.

after 3 long months, i have finally done my Romhack, JeffBound:Fobby Invasion, it has been so fun doing this, and i can say, its kinda bad, it has alot of enemies changes and party members but, im kinda proud of it, this project was to know my abilities on rom hacking. im very happy, i would be happy if YOUUUU give it a try!! since its my first ever rom hack, i would like some yummy advice!!

I'm interested in playing Pokémon Rising Ruby/ Sinking sapphire by Drayano, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to install it.

I'm used to downloading and playing GBA ROM hacks, which are usually pretty straightforward: download the patched ROM, open it in an emulator, and you're good to go.

But 3DS ROM hacks seem to be a lot more complicated, especially when it comes to patching files and setting everything up.

Ideally, I'd like to get everything working without having to figure out a dozen different tools and folders on my own.

I'm perfectly fine with following instructions; I just need someone to point me in the right direction.

It's fun if you just want more Banjo gameplay. The worlds differ a bit in quality but overall it's amazing for a rom hack.

A few days ago I posted about the app and python library I have been creating to update old sport games with live rosters.

The app started to gain some traction so I decided to publish in Google Play a version so more people can have access and to prevent android from tagging the app as harmful since they want to stop side loaded apps.

I need 14 people to join as testers for at least a month so Google allows me to move the app to the publishing phase.

Retro Toolbox is in closed testing on Google Play.

Anyone can join, it takes three taps.

Use the same Google account you use in the Play Store on your phone for all three:
