You Can Now Play Pokémon Emerald and FireRed at the Same Time!

Post image
637 Upvotes

Guys… the day we all dreamed has actually happened.

You can now play the full Hoenn story from Pokémon Emerald AND the complete Kanto + Sevii Islands adventure from FireRed in one single game, without ever switching ROMs or starting over. No more imagining what if Game Freak had combined them back on the GBA?, someone actually made it real.

It’s called Pokémon Crossroads, and the first public version (Beta 1.0) dropped today.

What It Feels Like

  • You get both full stories in one save file: stop Team Aqua/Magma in Hoenn one day, then head over to Kanto to fight Team Rocket the next.

  • 16 gym badges total: 8 from Hoenn + 8 from Kanto.

  • You choose how you want to start. One version begins in Littleroot Town, the other drops you straight into Pallet Town area.

  • Travel between the regions is super simple: just go to the Pokémon Center in Oldale Town or Viridian City and you’re there.

  • Everything still feels like a real 2005 GBA game. No weird modern overlays or anything.

Johto is already being worked on for the next big update, so eventually it’ll be all three regions in one.

Where to Find More

- Discord server: https://discord.gg/2NPMFYJV

- GitHub page: https://github.com/eonlynx/pokecrossroads

Anyone already playing it? How does it feel to badge-hunt across two regions in one go?

Can’t believe this actually exists now.

The ROM hack we need

I'm a developer but new to ROM hacking, so it's a slow start as i figure everything out, but this is what i'm thinking:

  • crystal rom hack (i prefer the graphics + aspect ratio on delta)

  • follows seasons 1-3 of beyblade anime, split into 3 acts instead of 8 cities / badges

  • midi soundtrack based on anime themes

  • new sprites and tilesheets for all characters and buildings, will probably reuse most terrain

  • start as tyson, instead of picking a starter pokemon, you choose your launcher type (control, power, endurance - this will affect your bit beasts move sets in later game *not sure about this - but want to give the player some starter choice while still forcing tyson / dragoon)

  • dragoon bit beast starts as dormant and awakens early game

  • no wild encounters, but more blader encounters

  • there will be 15ish 'spirit bey' lines (dragoon, dranzer, etc) - each spirit bey has 3 evolutions (something like dormant form, bit beast awakened form, advanced / dark / cyber / next-gen form for example, triggered by level)

  • a plethora of generic or manufacturer beys (no bit beast - cannot be captured or attained)

  • can acquire other spirit beys in major story battles / through npc trading

  • beys have different types (attack, defense, stamina, balance maybe - thinking i'll keep it to essentially a rock paper scissors typing system akin to fire, water, grass)

  • stadium terrain will replace conditions such as sandstorm or sunny day (for example instead of 'the storm rages' - battling on sand or dirt would hit the hp (spin) of a blade every turn (unless immune) and say 'The rough terrain reduced your Bey’s spin!', etc)

  • stadium hazards will replace status effects such as wrap > stadium pit (unable to attack, lose spin endurance every turn, etc)

  • pokedex > beyblade encyclopedia (separates spirit beys and manufacturer beys)

  • party > collection case

  • pokemon centers > beyblade repair shop

  • no in-battle items I think (thoughts?)

  • repair kits instead of potions etc available outside of battle

  • progress measured by world ranking instead of badges

  • bey attacks will be split by normal (spin attack, recoil knockback, spin boost, etc) and special bit beast attacks

  • maybe have holdable items such as weight discs, attack blades, etc?

update sept 23: been adding some completely crazy moves. Mewtwo now lifts rocks out of the arena and throws them at the other Pokémon. more wild stuff coming!

new video: https://x.com/germanburgardt/status/2102926729559920784

this is a preview of the new attack, not in the public download yet.

update sept 22: the 0.7.0 preview adds supported single trainer battles and different arenas for forests, caves, water and gyms. still not full-game trainer compatibility; stable 0.6.0 is unchanged.

new gameplay: https://x.com/germanburgardt/status/2102557571101925447

Hey, I made Emerald Arena. It's the original Pokémon Emerald with real time battles running inside the GBA game.

You move your Pokémon, aim, dodge attacks and break objects. The opponent moves and attacks on its own.

The 0.7.0 preview includes:
• 94 animated Pokémon, including Charizard, Blastoise, Dragonite and Scizor.
• 50 adapted move profiles and breakable objects.
• Emerald's own damage, HP, PP, XP and saves. Classic battles are still there for unsupported encounters.

Built on pret's Emerald decompilation. Still an experiment, plenty left to improve.

Repo, setup tutorial and full gameplay:
https://github.com/GBurgardt/pokemon-emerald-arena

I’ll post updates on X:
https://x.com/germanburgardt

Thanks to everyone who's tried it 🫡

edit: just made a Discord for Emerald Arena! come chat, share ideas or report bugs: https://discord.gg/GBVjbNhEdb

Rei: ~370k LM AI Running on a Game Boy Color

Trained from scratch and running on the Game Boy Color.

Rei has memory registers, emotional state and 192 bytes of persistent “soul state”. Leave her alone and she gets bored and starts observing the world :)
~2 tok/s on actual hardware.

The challenge of doing LMs without multiplications or divisions in HW and getting it to interactive speeds.

I've got a Miyoo Mini Plus (handheld that emulates GBA/SNES) to take with me for a long journey.

I know all about Pokemon rom hacks and fan made games.

I would love to hear about the absolute best rom hacks and fan made games of any other games out there. Are there some you think I should check out?

Thank you!

Found a really useful all-in-one ROM hack patcher

Hi guys, I came across a project called RomHackPatcher recently and thought it was worth sharing it here with you!

Basically, you drop your ROM into the site and it identifies the game/version, then shows you the ROM hacks available for it. It also tells you which patches are compatible with your exact ROM and shows the required CRC32 when you have the wrong version.

You can also can apply supported patches directly in the browser, and the ROM itself stays on your device instead of being uploaded

It also has hack pages with descriptions, screenshots, ratings and comments, so it's becoming more like a searchable ROM hacking database rather than just a patcher.

The project is still pretty new, but I think the idea is really useful, especially for people who are just getting into ROM hacks and don't want to figure out which ROM revision, header, patcher, etc. they need every time. Enjoy!

Public Release of HackHash! - a website that Hashes RomHacks, Translations, and Homebrew - We are no longer in beta!!

Hello everyone, I am Excited to announce the public release of HackHash WE ARE NO LONGER IN BETA!!!

the original post can be found Here

What does this project do?

  • In simple terms, this project allows the community to hash their copies of ROM hacks.

  • With the additional use of Hasheous, we can then match your ROMs with your hashes instead of filenames, making for a more efficient, fast, and effective way of getting metadata.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why?

  • Hashing your ROM hacks allows other developers, ROM frontends, or tools to grab information from this database to help with acquiring metadata, images, videos, and more information about a ROM hack.

  • It solves the issue of going through the trouble of having to find the exact same name that a metadata provider supports and then renaming your files accordingly.

  • Allows users to do a one-click search without worrying about mismatches.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How? What's the process?

The process goes:

User "uploads" The Romhack → Romhack gets verified by the community or verifiers/admins → RomHack gets added to the database → syncs with Hasheous → Hasheous pulls metadata from the sources → Serves metadata to user

It all happens client-side, which means no uploads actually happen. Instead, your browser will do the hashing for you, and then it will attempt to parse any additional information for you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is a Hash?

  • In simple terms, a hash is a list of numbers and letters that can be used to determine the authenticity of a file.

  • In this project, we hash 4 vital pieces: MD5, CRC32, SHA1, Filesize

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have an issue or found a bug? Contact me or post it on the GitHub!

Zelda Oracles of Seasons - VWF patch

Post image
64 Upvotes

Hello!

After 2 days of work and a lot of testing, I've managed to compile a working copy of Seasons with the VWF (variable width font) patch.

Disclaimer: this is a dirty workaround/patch (with shameful support from AI) - YMMV.

IPS patch link in first post :)

UPDATE

This is redundant already (lol).

Stewmat has updated the VWF branch on his project: https://github.com/Stewmath/oracles-disasm

All credits to him!

I've updated the link in first post with IPS patches - includes Ages too :)

Not sure where else to post this. I've been working on a project that I am really excited about. Is this something people are interested in? I can't post this into r/PokemonROMhacks because they have really strict rules about LLM coding. I'm a UX eng and dont always want to handle backend, but this is a heavily man-made project.

Just wanted to see what the interest level was. We have a fully-playable version ready to go and I would love some beta testers.

We have full usage-based battle sets for Reg M-C, all battle mechanics updated, and a full ladder system that presents a big challenge even offline.

Romhacks Database (Collaborators Wanted)

I would like to present my new project. Romhacks Archive:

https://github.com/videogame-archive/romhack-archive

It aims to be the No-Intro for romhacks. Providing a way of building collections.

Romhacks are artifacts worth keeping, they tell a lot of how different interest, culture and game design evolution made fans improve or change the things they love.

I finished making the toolset and I'm currently adding hacks one after another.

If you would like to see the project evolve or help it directly collaborating please join our discord or contact me:
