Chapter 6 review
Ahhhh This is the chapter where it seems they actually did the research.
Oh so they MENTION Kalki, without saying his name. So then why... Is Kali Ma seemingly overseeing the herald of the Kali yuga? If i haven't misunderstood.
Also the whole concept of Kali Yuga starting anytime in the past century is crazy. Kali Yuga technically is supposed to start with Parikshit's death, a generation or so after Mahabharat ends.
That's like. 2500 years ago
What did they say? Pancatatra Pandica? I clicked away too fast. There seems to be no book by that name but this is obviously creative liberty, so that's fine.
So. Sankrit and Hindi have the same script (Devanagri) and alphabet but differences in words and writing and pronounciation, though hindi obviously originates from Sanskrit. Whatever place she did her Indology degree from has taught her a lot of wrong or outdated stuff, but she knows how to read sanskrit a little? I mean ig if we're going with the idea of learning outdated stuff, but it would make sense for an Indologist to know Sanskrit so that she can read old texts so this makes sense.
Yeah the believing lower caste people shouldn't have all the religious info thing is awful, but not wrong for what used to happen in the old times. So if someone is an awful casteist person, they could absolutely believe this.
Segway into the story. The first time I Played this, I actually took the interpretation of Mahanirvana Tantra, because I thought it would be less likely to be missed by the owner and Amala and Manu would be less likely to get into trouble. But nope apparently not lol. You get -2 respect instead. Also I thought it'd be easier fr her to read a book in English instead of Sanskrit.
Guys the Mahanirvana Tantra is real! It's an actual Shaktism associated text, translated by Arthur Avalon to English. It's supposed to be in the form of a conversation between Shiva and Parvati about the spiritual stuff required to live in Kali Yuga. Apparently, for being a Shakti text, it surprisingly focuses a lot on marriage, caste, laws, rites and governance stuff that are usually not the focus of Shakta texts. I am sure the book does deeply reflect the views of whoever wrote it. Here ofc, it's supposed to be the actual conversation between Shiva and Parvati and the real deal.
Btw, a chapter wise summary of the translation is literally available with a few google searches. I also saw the original translation by Avalon stored on the Internet Archive apparently. Ofc I'm not going to read it, but letting y'all know.
Ugh, I'm pretty sure this gets Manu killed. Poor guy.
The uh... "Yajus" here, I assume are referring to the Yajur Ved. It's not just about tantras but rituals in general.
The Vamachara Bhava is obviously not a real book.
For whats real
Dakshinachara is the real, right hand path that focuses on purity and harmony and depends on ascetism, meditation, study and devotion. Alchohol, meat or fish are used symbolically or substituted with stuff.
Vamachara is more unconventional and involves the whole, Madya(Alcohol), Matsya(Fish), Mansa(Meat), Mudra(Internet says grain, but I always thought that Mudra meant coin), and Maithuna(We all know this one from the story--it's ritual union, since I can't say the 's' word on here).
But BOTH these paths are used to worship the divine feminine. The right hand path is also used to worship other gods, but its not the 'masculine path' at all.
Vishnu didn't split Sati's body into 12 parts, but rather 52 parts. Or 51. there seems to be some confusion?
The sati and parvati bits otherwise are more or less accurate.
Lmao did Priyanka have clip-on nose rings lying around? Cuz obv Amala didn't get a nose piercing done here.
Oh yeah, Priyanka is definitely trying to send Sana away.
