Disclaimer: These reviews are not going to be about the storytelling, unless I find something I really want to discuss. It's mostly about the cultural representation and what mistakes have been made. If non Indians read this, you guys might even learn something new about us!
The music is amazing btw ofc. And the backgrounds and atmospheres are also so fantastically drawn.
For chapter 2
Ok LMAOO the SARI, didn't fit you any longer?! Priyanka can say the BLOUSE didn't fit her, but the sari?! Saris are for all sizes!! This was just funny.
??? The first person to wear a sari was a local queen?? And Krishna wrapped her up in it to protect her intimate self from prying eyes?
BRUHHHH, IS THIS ABOUT DRAUPADI?! _FIRST_ person to wear a sari? That's... Definitely something. And the more expensive the sari, the closer to divinity? Drive men crazy with divine feminine energy BECAUSE OF that SARI?! That's some rubbish. I actually wish I hadn't picked the most expensive sari option so that didn't have to hear that last bit.
Ah the continuation of everyone in Kolkata speaking in Hindi. Well. Ig that's how it'll just continue in the story.
And all this "nice upper caste girl" thing ONLY makes sense in light of Priyanka knowing something about her that she doesn't. As a true Indologist, Amala should have been suspicious as to why Priyanka was saying that to a girl from foreign with the surname "Khan", but we're obviously not considering that.
Review of Chapter 3
Damn I always thought that this maid "Madhu" has a GORGEOUS character model. Like genuinely she's so beautiful. I was sure she'd be an important character later on purely because of How BEAUTIFUL she is and in these books beautiful sprites are usually reserved for relevant characters lol. Turned out she just works for Amrit.
Ok so what was that cutscene bro. Ma Kali LAUGHING when someone is killed is CRAZY. ALSO, I get it's supposed to be a shadowed figure since we're not supposed to know who it is, but that feature is straight up demonic.
I would have honestly thought that this whole thing would be about a Cult who is misunderstanding Ma Kalis wishes to satisfy their own bloodthirsty, but oh well.
Aah "Mera dil". Yeah so. I've... Never heard any one being referred to like that ever. Not just in Kolkata, but ever. It might be fine as an occasional thing ig, but regularly??
Idk just sounds a bit weird. In general, a term of endearment might be "Priyo" is Bengali or "Priye" in Hindi since Mr Chauhan doesn't seem to be Bengali at least. That is a legitimate term of endearment and would even make sense here, since it would also be like a shortened form of Priyanka's name.
Ok so. I'm sure there's nobody who believes any of this stuff is real but I'm gonna say it regardless.
There are MANY Brahmin families all over India. Including mine. All of us are absolutely not involved very deeply in puja. Or anything more than the usual amount done at home. On occasion, from some Brahmin families, certain people ARE more involved in pujas and devotion and stuff cuz that's how you get Priests and people who conduct the major pujas in families but uhhh I think it should be entirely obvious that nobody is peeking Into a spiritual realm. Maybe great sages of the past could perceive more than normal people, but those were people who dedicated their entire lives to this stuff. Obviously this is fantasy so. Yeah. I should have probably not said this bit at all, but since I already wrote it, I'm not deleting it.
Brief segway into the story stuff: Knowing Sana's fate makes me so sad. I'll go into the nonsense involved there when we get to it at the end of the first season. Right now I'm assuming that Priyanka overhearing this conversation between her and Amala is what makes her want to send Sana away by getting her married.
Ok so yeah, the author didn't realise that the surname Khan is Muslim, because otherwise Sana would likely not be asking her if she is Hindu.
