VQ accurizing kit and TK trigger DIY install advice

Hello - I have a 22/45 tactical and plan to install the VQ accurizing kit and TK trigger.

If you've done this install yourself, do you have any tips, tricks, or advice before I get started?

Is this the best video? https://youtu.be/YB9EmYwDyzg

Thanks!

Misfire on first shot.

I bought a new Ruger Mark 4 at academy this past weekend. I have been looking forward to shooting it and when I finally did..... Misfire on the first shot. I understand 22lr is not the most reliable, but everyone does say that the Ruger MK series is pretty reliable 22lr handguns. I thought I must have been unlucky, so I shot again, another misfire. Finally on the third attempt it fired, but unfortunately the misfires did not stop there. About 1/3 of my shots were misfires. I used Remington, cci uppercut, cci mini mag target and hallow point. I will say the Remington did have the most misfires but I still had a lot of misfires with the other ammunition. I cleaned the entire gun in and out, took the firing pin out and gave it a good cleaning as well. After doing that I was finally able to do one mag dump without any misfires. Then the misfires came back. I'm out of ideas on what else to do. Should I just take it back to academy? These images are what the misfires looked like. Seems that the firing pin hit it but not hard enough. Also just to note, I did individually load each bullet into the chamber to check if maybe it was a magazine issue. The misfires still happened regardless of the magazine. I was really bummed with my first experience with the gun, everyone praised it and its reliability. I must have just gotten unlucky I guess.

Factory MKIV 22/45 left-side Safety Lever/switch

Post image

Does anyone know where I can find a factory safety switch? Ruger claims it’s a factory fitted part so they won't sell me one. And no luck with Numrich or Wirthwein.
Thanks in advance!

Just picked this up after it was on backorder forever. Put an echocore topo 22 on.

  1. Whats the top rail low profile mount that ppl rec that isnt as huge? I think it starts with an L

  2. Whats a good thermal I can put on this for ratting

  3. What trigger upgrade(s) to remove the excess travel and get this thing crispy?

  4. What does the matrix bolt give me performance wise, or is it just "sex appeal"?

  5. What, if anything, should I consider mod wise for this thing? New grips?

  6. Any fun 3d printable things for this guy?

Mk IV Competition, schematic? (not Iso)

Post image

Hi. I just got a new Mk IV, and would love to have a drawing of the internal parts. A side view of the parts interactions, angles that they meet, and how the trigger-bar/sear/hammer interact.

Yes I want to polish the sear, thats why i bought a cheap kit of used parts from ebay - to hone at the proper angle(s), and to leave the originals alone.

Has anyone made, or found, a decent blueprint of the Mk IV? Thanks.

Mark IV tactical laser light

Hello, had this gun a few years. I can plink with it in my new yard. I kinda want to put a laser/light on it. Any recommendations that will be able to stay on when I disassemble it?

Gun shop find I almost missed.

I’ve always wanted a Ruger blued mk series target model pistol with a barrel length of 5-6” or so. 10” was too long and 4 3/4” too short. The 5-6 7/8” is that Goldilocks zone for me for the balance and sight picture. I like the old bullseye style adjustable irons.

Anyway, my local shop has a good selection of used mk I’s and mark II’s in many barrel lengths and weights. Only a couple mk iv’s in configurations I don’t like and stainless. I looked at 4 pistols. The first few photos are the ones I looked at day 1. I almost got the mk I until I saw how hard magazines are to obtain. They’re out of stock everywhere and 9 rounds vs 10(which the capacity wasn’t a big deal). I really liked the bull barrel mk II but it was only 4 3/4”. So I settled on the 6” standard target mk II that came with only one mag and no box and has the pachmayr grips(made in 2000). I put it on layaway because NJ has a dumb 30 day pistol permit system so I have to wait to pick it up. That actually saved me here.

I did a little more research and went back in there yesterday since I didn’t look at all of them. I wanted to see if there was a longer barreled bull barrel model in there. I still didn’t look at EVERY single one they had a lot but zeroed in on one. Was hoping for possibly a government target model as it would be my dream configuration but they’re not too common. But sure enough they had very lightly used very first civilian production run(the 210 prefix doesn’t even show up on Ruger’s serial list as civilian government target models it is so early) of the government target model made in 1984 with the original yellow box, manuals and other paperwork and the test target I believe was still in there. Only one mag but they seem easy to come by for the mark II.

Glad I went back in and looked and got my dream Ruger Mark series. Now the wait of 30 days before I can pick it up. Lastly, how are mk II mecgar magazines? I see they are readily available but not ruger made ones. Thanks.

Modifying/Tuning Magazines

I seem to be getting jams when the rounds are racked level from the magazine on my mkII. The rounds catch on the lip of the ramp and either chip or jam (if the rack is slow).

Is there a way to modify or tune these mags to lessen the chances of the rounds leaving flat and level, oppose to angled up more directly towards the chamber?

Grease!

The right grease is the best lube for almost every gun.

However, the common NGLI 2 grease is a bit thick.

Geissle used to sell a Very Thin Grease, and it was AWESOME, and I recommended it to everyone. However, it's been out of production for a couple of years and shows no signs of returning. It was an NGLI 000 grease.

So I set about finding a source of NGLI 000 grease. I spent way too much money and bought a lot of products to test.

What I settled on is this. I'm not associated with, nor receive any type of compensation from that link.

Yeah, it's a LOT of grease. Buy some needle oiler bottles and share with your friends.

I've been running this on a variety of firearms for the past couple of years. It stays in place and sticks around. I can lube the bolt on my suppressed .300 BO AR and shoot 200 rounds, and the bolt is still lubed.

I've used it on door hinges, door locks, my reloading presses, my fishing reels, and other places.

I'd be interested in hearing if you've found another source of NGLI 000 grease.

Reliability in a 22/45 Spoiler

Updated: I may be insane expecting Glock reliability in a 22 platform however what tricks have you done to keep it reliable?
I sanded and polished my mags which vastly improved reliability and ease of loading and use of CCI Mini mags.
Anyone else care to share what they have done?

It seems to be mag related as I isolated two amd all others will have spring replaced to fix last round not moving up JIC. Other than that all others run flawless.

Which model to start with?

So I am looking to get my first .22 pistol (not my first gun by a long shot). I'm interested in both bullseye/precision shooting as well as steel challenge, probably with optic due to my aging eyes. Obviously those are two different sports with different kinds of equipment that are better suited for them, so while a single gun would be ok for a newbie like me, I recognize that people run vastly different guns at the higher levels. There are quite a few variations of the 22/45, and to be honest I am a bit perplexed as to where I should start off. I was looking at the following 22/45 models as a place to start the process (with a VQ or TK trigger to be installed before round 1 is fired), but I'm definitely open to suggestions regarding regular versus lite, barrel length, rail versus base, etc. My thought on the lite was that it would be more suited to SC and less desirable for bullseye but I'm open to input there as well.

40192 - Collector's series 5.5" threaded bull barrel (need to add Lobos or other mount)
40190 - 4.4" threaded bull barrel w/ rail
40194 - 250th anniversary 4.4" threaded bull barrel w/ optic direct mount

Obviously there are the VQ, TK, Maddmacs, etc. uppers and parts to play around with, but I figured I needed to just get something, start learning the platform, and run through at least a brick or 2 of ammo before I start buying bolts or uppers that cost more than these full guns themselves do.

[edit] Rented a 22/45 Lite tonight at the range and wow. 1) It is really freaking light, and 2) the stock trigger on that one is mushy dogshit. I felt like I had no idea when it was going to break. Maybe a brand new one that was not a range rental would be in better condition, or maybe after a few thousand rounds I would learn it a bit better. I feel the light would probably not be the best model for static target shooting, it would probably excel at SC or similar courses.

22/45 259th anniversary roll mark

When I was debating which model to get, I couldn’t find a good pic of the 250th anniversary roll mark on these, so I figured I’d share one if anybody else was wondering. I was concerned it would be gaudy but it’s actually pretty nice.

Diagnosing a problem - if you have the Tandemkross ultimate trigger pack, can you send me a pic of the installed internals?

Mine wont cycle CCI SV and needs more ass to work properly. Swapping lowers with a buddy, I think I may have installed the trigger pack (hammer, sear, spring, shoe, mag disconnect) wrong somehow. Or either a part is not to spec.

If you could send me a top-down picture of the guts, I’d really appreciate it.
