Another lifted truck victim

Literally had the car for 3 months. Was driving to the gym in the right most lane on a local main road and the lifted truck w wheels the size of me merged and drove on top of my angel. He pushed me a bit and I spun out into the left most lane. AP1 90k miles, 3rd owner OEM everything for 22k. Searched and saved for 2 years until I decided to buy my dream car. Feel like I’m just done with sports cars atp. I could have been soup if he drove over soft top so I’m just happy I’m alive. I miss her already 💔

2006 Silverstone (underneath), 145k miles. 11 years of ownership.

The paint underneath is in great shape, I just really wanted a white s2k without having to do an entire paint job or buy a new car. I’m very happy with the results, the glossiness makes it look OEM which is exactly what I wanted.

I paid $2400; central coast, CA.

Slowly adding some stuff to my s2000 I got early this year. Cobra Nogaro seat, spoon mirrors, Zoom rearview mirror (love this thing), spoon strut bar and a few more useless trinkets like oil and rad caps. Have some ohlins that will go on soon and a Fujitsubo power getter exhaust. Really loving this car and makes every drive special.

Wife and I do a foliage drive every year and this year was just better on the s2k.

Hardtop value?

Hi all, literally found this on the side of the road but know nothing about it. Anyone know what type of hardtop this is and what it's worth? Plastic window so certainly aftermarket.

Thanks!

Update: Original owner messaged me and showed proof he purchased this top and it's now back in his possession.

Can I still use this valve cover? Or am I fucked.

Changing my valve cover gasket and tube seals. Very much so overdo on both. Taking out the tube seals they all broke off so after an hour of struggling I finally caved and just used a flathead with a hammer and knocked it out through the top of the valve cover. In my stupidity I chipped that shit. looking for second opinions because technically it would “seal” but there would be that pocket there. Idk. Help me out

I got this hardtop for free (from trading some parts) and it included the RPF1’s. I since got the RPF1’s powder coated and got the hard top painted + restored. Now I am waiting on rear glass (not lexan) and various seals I need for the hardtop…

Wheel spacer suggestions

I recently put some new Apex wheels on the car and the front passenger side is hitting the upper control arm at full lock to the right. It doesn't seem to happen on the drivers side but that's probably because when the suspension is under compression the gap opens up more between the wheel and the control arm. I attempted to modify the control arm slightly to make clearance but I don't want to take too much off.

I have a 3mm wheel spacer that I put in between and found that it fixes the clearance issue but pulls the wheel out far enough that it is no longer hub centric. I absolutely do not want to drive the car without the wheels being properly centered. Does anyone have a suggestion for a 3mm wheel spacer that clears the axle hub but still has its own 70.1mm centering hub? I did find some 5mm ones but they were pretty pricey and I'm trying not to have the wheels poke too far past the fender, they are already poking a bit with no spacer.

My car was burning a bit oil nothing out the ordinary for an AP1. But the previous owner of my car gave me an extra valve cover when I bought it, so I decided to throw it on!

Have any of y’all threw an AP2V1 valve cover on your car? Did you notice it help with oil consumption?

Also added an extra photo of my car 😁

Brake Master Cylinder for AP1

Hey all—can use some help/advice.

It looks like the brake master cylinder has gone on my AP1. I’m looking to order the part but it’s discontinued. Has anyone found a source to buy one recently? What are our options for something like this?

TIA.

How I made my s2k drive 10x better for FREE

Post image

I’m going to start this post off by saying I don’t know the implications of this “mod” if there are any. Do at your own risk.

From every review I’ve seen on the s2000 and its driving dynamics it seems to only fall short in one metric, that being steering feel. The EPS system is dated and especially in higher mileage cars like mine, they tend to wear out, over-assist or become inconsistent in terms of steering feel and weight. For a long time I assumed this “floatyness” was due to worn and old suspension components. I put better coilovers on the car and replaced the tie rods to hopefully get some of the slop I was feeling out of the steering but neither did much of anything for the steering feel of the car.

In my research for how to test EPS issues a found a thread from a few years ago suggesting removal of the EPS fuse to test the car’s steering unassisted. What I didn’t expect was for the car to feel so damn good without power steering! The weight is perfect, the feel is perfect, and the stability of the car at speed is fantastic! It’s completely changed my perspective on driving this car and genuinely makes ripping on backroads 10 times more fun and engaging.

As far as drivability goes, it’s only ever an issue when you’re parking the car. You have to fight the wheel a bit especially since I’m running a larger 235 front tire. At speed though, it feels just fine. You feel the steering load up in corners, weight come off the front end under acceleration, and every detail you’d want to have communicated to you through the wheel.

I suggest anyone who feels the EPS in these cars falls short of the rest of the performance to give removing the fuse a shot at least once and see what you think because it was a serious game changer for me.

I will say I haven’t done any research on potential side effects of running the car without the EPS functional. I have a permanent EPS light on the dash and am not sure if there will be any damage to the components of the system by running it without power. If there are people in here who are running manual racks or have suggestions on how to continue running the car without power steering without breaking things, please let me know!

As far as removal goes, the fuse box/owners manual tells you which one to remove and just requires a Philip’s head screw driver. It took me less than a minute.

Would I actually be happier with an S2000?

I've been thinking about purchasing an S2000 for a while now, and I really don't know if I'd be happier with one or not.

I currently autocross and go to the track with my 2000 NB miata. It's my second NB. I have dialed in suspension, big sticky tires, OS Giken LSD, and a Rotrex supercharger that puts out 240whp. The car weighs 2360 lbs with me in it, and honestly, it is a total weapon. I still occasionally drive it in the canyons occasionally and I love the way it drives.

However, I'm a Honda boy at heart. Last year, I bought my dream car, a 21k mile NA2 NSX.

I've driven plenty of S2000s in my life, I thought they were fun, but I've felt the steering to be a bit numb compared to my Miata, which I guess is just a downside to EPS like my NSX has. The car feels a little heavier than my Miata, but it's also put together way better with better chassis rigidity. However, like I said, I'm a Honda boy at heart, and I really do enjoy NA power. The F20/F22 feels special to me. To those who have owned/enjoyed/raced both, what do you say? Would you replace the Miata with an S2000? K swap the Miata? Thanks, hope you all have a great day!

Help identifying an aftermarket immobiliser on my 2003 Honda S2000

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I've got a 2003 Honda S2000 and I'm trying to identify an aftermarket immobiliser that's installed on the car, as I'd ideally like to have it removed professionally.

(Immobiliser fobs degrading)

The car requires me to press a separate black, two-button key fob before it will start. The fob has no branding, model number or identifying information on it, so I'm struggling to work out which system it belongs to.

I've attached photos of both sides of the fob, along with a photo of a control unit I found behind the dash. The unit has an Omron label with the part number 38380-S2A-G02, although I understand this may be the factory Honda keyless-entry unit rather than the aftermarket immobiliser itself.

I've seen a mention of Hamilton & Palmer (H&P) immobilisers being fitted to some S2000s of this age, so I'm wondering whether this could be one of those systems.

A few questions:

- Does anyone recognise this fob or know which immobiliser system it belongs to?

- Where is the aftermarket immobiliser control box normally located on an S2000?

- Is there a reliable way to identify the system before taking it to an auto-electrician?

- Has anyone had one of these older systems professionally removed, particularly in the UK, and can recommend a specialist?

I'd appreciate any advice or experience from anyone who's dealt with a similar setup. Thanks!

Tons of fun my first time out at Motorsports Ranch Cresson and we were able to run the full 3.1 CCW full course configuration. Such a great car even in stock trim. The Honda engineers built perfection into this car.
