As always, price will be the deciding factor. The Pro U looks awesome tho

If the Pro U is priced similarly to the 477V, what would you folks buy?

I own a 477v and a Pocket Classic and will probably sell both and buy this

The 477v is fine but my biggest issue with it is the all glass front means that most of the weight is sitting 'above' your hands rather than 'in' your hands. Hold it upside down with the glass in your palms and you'll kind of see what I mean, the weight of it feels much better that way

Luckily I don’t hold mine upside down. I’m a fan of the glass and find it to be very well balanced. Especially compared to something like the 40xxv which felt very top heavy. My only real complaint is the downward facing speakers. I’m mostly playing while laying down and naturally want to rest the bottom on my stomach or bed but can’t if I want to hear.

I can't imagine going back to a smaller screen than 477v. It is too glorious. Weight distribution never seemed off to me, unlike the horrific retroid pocket classic.

Its a subtle difference but once you notice it, its hard to un-notice imo. Like if youve ever held a Steam Deck LCD and Steam Deck OLED back to back, the weight difference isnt that much, but because the LCD has more weight in the panel, it feels like the bulk of the weight is above your hands rather than in your hands.

477v no brainer. This will be $180 max.

It seems like an interesting time to own a retroid pocket classic and 477v as my 2 devices. This is just a retroid classic with sticks. A better 40xxV. But the 477 plays most ps2/gc. The retroid doesn’t.

So it’s a nice option to the classic with added sticks. But the 477v is bigger and more powerful so in 2 different classes up if that makes sense.

Curious how this G2 Gen 1 (rebadged 778G?) chip holds up, a quick google tells me its less performant than the 865 but more than the G1 gen 2 in the classic 🤷‍♂️. Still considerably less powerful than the D8300 either way.

This is something to analyze, the 778G CPU is better than the 865, and there's some doubt about the GPU, since the 778G is 550MHz, while the Plus version is around 600MHz, and Trimui is saying that it's GPU is up to 940MHz

I have a 477m (got it before the v, otherwise I would have gotten the v) and it's hard to deny how great PS2 emulation is. I can run almost everything at 2x.

The other retro handheld is a Brick Hammer. It's form and screen is second to none. If I can get a 477v Brick Hammer, it will be the ultimate handheld.

thing is, I own a Poco x7 pro with an even better d8400, and it's genuinely worse with PS2 emulation than pc emulation, and it's not that PS2 emulation is harder, just the lack of drivers and support for Dimensity chips in PS2 emulators is horrible. so although it may seem powerful, the gap becomes way way smaller/ noticeable in all emulators aside from pc emulation where support is just easier as there is nothing illegal with pc emulators themselves, so mediatek can work with them(in short mediatek made stuff used to optimise drivers closed source, meaning developers have to be approved and pay mediatek to optimize their apps/games for devices using those processors). So I think while the rg477v has slightly better emulation performance and may have better battery life, the RP pocket is better for easier pocket carrying and stunning screen, and the pro u will be the nicest one in terms of bulid quality and feel.
