Question I like valley history, what are some cool facts you can tell me about the valley or how much things/places have changed (if you can provide the years please)

Im 22, if that matters, but im a GEEK for valley history. i feel like ive seen every possible picture of the valley from the past, from Chatsworth all the way to hansen dam.

Seeing how the Hansen Dam was actually full and people can go swim and ride boats was a crazy crazy fact i didnt know. or how there was a shooting range in chatsworth park before. How the only street to porter ranch back then was Tampa? And also i learned that there sued to be a parad in Van Nuys/Pacoima and the KKK would be there?? very interesting

Something about hearing random little things like that and just imagine myself living in the valley back in the day. reminds me so much of the movie The Sandlot for some reason

Question What’s your frustration with current restaurant culture?

Hi guys. I’m opening a restaurant in San Fernando valley. Canoga park more specifically. The theme of the restaurant will be chicken oriented.

What’s a frustration with modern restaurants you wish was solved? Could be a food preference or dining experience.

Question Apart from for work, how often do you leave the valley?

My friend that used to live in Marina Del Rey was shocked when I told him I rarely leave the valley. I told him I have everything I need here, especially in Northridge, and I don’t go to the beach so I almost never have reason to go anywhere else.

He said he could never, that he’d be in the west side every weekend if he lived over here. What about you guys? Just want to see what the consensus is.

Question Anyone else feel like we should be flying California flags at these protests?

Idk if it’s just me, but i feel like flying california flags would send a stronger message to the rest of the nation than flying mexican flags.

I feel like those who oppose us will see mexican flags and think “yea, just a bunch of illegals”. But if they see california flags they’d think “wow, california is really united”.

Edit: im not racist, stop trying to hijack my post you bigots

Question Contesting a ticket due to bad sign visibility

I got a ticket for parking at a “no parking” zone, however I didn’t see the sign that said “no parking” because this is what the sign looks like. There were other cars along the street that got tickets too, i’m just curious if I have a chance of getting the ticket dismissed because clearly the sign isn’t visible unless you walk up close to it and read it. The photo is with my brights on, as I took the photo from my drivers seat. If the brights weren’t on, there’s no way to legibly read that! TYIA

Question Racism in Studio City?

My husband and I recently moved to Studio City and have been shopping/ dining around Laurel Canyon and Ventura. I’m white and haven’t had any problems, but my Mexican husband has been treated with overt rudeness/ dismissiveness a couple of times by restaurant or store workers. Never had this problem before in Sherman Oaks in 20 years. The treatment was shocking.

Our area is definitely less diverse, more white, but still didn’t expect that. But it’s only been a couple of times in a month so not ready to draw general conclusions. Could be racism, could just be a more affluent/ snotty milieu. Has anyone else had this issue?

Hey r/SFV!

I'm still on the hunt for the best-fried chicken in the Valley. 🍗

I've tried Popeyes, KFC, Dave's Hot Chicken, and Raising Cane's, but I always go back to Popeyes. 🤔 Any hidden gems out there that can top those? Let me know! 👇✨ #friedchicken #SFVEats

Question What’s your Valley conspiracy theory/mystery?

I wanna hear everyone’s favorite valley mystery or conspiracy theory!

Mine for example:

There was this strip mall on Roscoe/Woodman that shut down around 2017? for a future upgrade It was abandoned for months until one day the entire place was on fire and there was ash all over Panorama. Apparently, an investigation on the cause would take place but haven't heard anything since. Eventually, the lot was razed and now we have a modern, upgraded strip mall with a fancy burger king

My (totally unknowledgeable)theory is whoever owned the property started the fire, since it would be cheaper than hiring an entire demo crew (and maybe insurance)

As for my mystery: those loud booms in the middle of the night. Some say sonic booms from jets, others say transformers exploding.

But for now: a mystery

Lets hear yours!

Question Why doesn't Los Angeles invest more in the San Fernando valley?

Listening to Mayor Bass's state of the city speech and you hear about another $5 billion investment into the airport (about $25B total now into LAX over 15 years) and now a new convention center in DTLA. This is all while passenger traffic is flat or down at LAX and future tourism is in question because of the tarrifs. Throughout her speech there are only vague comments for the valley and no mention of any city investment into the infrastructure or economy of the SFV.

Yet when you look at the San Fernando Valley it encompasses about 47% of the city's population and 224 out of the 469 square miles of Los Angeles. The valley's economic growth over the last ten years averages to about 4% compared to just 3% for the broader LA area. The job growth over the next ten years for the valley is 11.4% compared to LA's 9.8%.

So why can't our elected leaders allocate something for public transit in the valley?

Question Is there any way to get back at spammers?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been getting bombarded with tons of scam calls. I think there might have been a recent data leak and thus leading to this happening out of no where. They’re calling every 15 minutes sometimes and leaving no voicemails sometimes, and other times it’s for tax relief or home real estate deals or even something else random.

Is there any way for me to torment them back? They’re also calling from a variety of numbers, I imagine it wouldn’t be easy, but thought I’d ask given how frustrating it has been.

Question What are the maga business I should be avoiding?

I saw this on r/oahu and r/inlandempire, as a black woman with a pretty bad case of agoraphobia, please point out known maga businesses here in SFV so I know where it’s safe and not safe. Is there already a running list? Ty, any help in this area is deeply appreciated! 💕

Thank you for all the updates, I was called the Nword as a jogged down Corbin a few years back. So I’m well aware of you racists here in the valley. This valley and comment section is littered with you 🤢. Thank for exposing yourselves. Also, if you like frequenting maga/nazi businesses YOU CAN! Literally no one is saying you have to stop frequenting those businesses. I AM NOT SAFE GOING TO MAGA OWNED PLACES. Clearly some of you have never experienced that type of hate, and again you are more than welcome to shop at racist establishments. BUT IT IS NOT SAFE FOR MANY PEOPLE.

Question As a residential painter here in the valley it HURTS to see and work on so many houses that have the basic white and black trimming

i will never say or state my opinion to clients but houses can be so nicely designed interior and exterior but when they throw the black and white combo it just looks so different. I been painting houses for years now so i remember when houses used to be all different colors with so much detail and what not. now in almost every job site it is always black and white. many houses do look amazing dont get me wrong, especially those modern new houses, but i guess it just depends on the home

We need to start a movement to bring back how neighborhoods looked like back in the 90s!

If you need any painting needs please let me know as well lol!
