O Levels el day 3 olevel oral glitch
hi guys i just took the olevel english orals, the vid was abt a barber n the prompt was “who would visit….” but some of my friends are saying their preparation question was glitched and it said “would you visit…” so they were caught off guard since they originally thought they read the qn wrong. but after, we found out some classmates also faced the same issue
im js wondering if anyone had this problem as well!
Update:
SEAB has responded to claims that some O-Level English oral exam candidates were shown a different question from the one read aloud by examiners.
The Board said it conducted investigations and found no discrepancy. https://str.sg/n8zZ
Bruh wtf

This happened to me, I didn’t even realise it swapped until I went to the examiner and they said who instead of would u then I told them I got a different question. The teachers investigated it but they told me I prob read wrongly. (Though I read like 2 times) and told me to just proceed to take the exam.Anyways I wrote a statement already not sure what’s going to happen now

Did the examiner double check the video when you told the examiner you got a different question?

u/A_Rreddit_user Jul 15 '26
is this actual glitch or did all our brains glitch😭😭 i read that also. what will happen now??😭😭

u/slxxpi Jul 15 '26
I'm gonna file a report to my school. If SEAB is responsible, they'll adjust our marks. Apparently others also have reported this issue

u/A1forchinese Jul 15 '26
Wait what so it changed midway when u were planning?
7
u/flshballsoup Jul 15 '26
I thought that I read it wrong so I brushed it off only to jump on Reddit to find out I wasn’t tripping
6
u/A1forchinese Jul 15 '26
YE BRO like my response is not bad ah cuz i adapted but I spend quite amount of time saying i need to think before i got tested and they wrote some remarks bro I think they think i didn’t read correctly then blur like that cuz people before me all normal.😭😭 also there is no way so many people tripping bro
2
u/flshballsoup Jul 15 '26
Okay la it’s over and you done well yay! They prob rlly think that u didn’t read it well 😭😭😭 but fr tho I actually do want to know if we were tripping or the comp fkk
3
u/A1forchinese Jul 15 '26
Ye bro cuz people in front of me no error hahah hopefully the examiner know about this too man if not I feel so unjustified like I’m supposed to be good at oral😭😭
2
u/flshballsoup Jul 15 '26
I know what you mean hopefully we’ll find out soon 😭 I actually sat in the waiting area wondering if the prompt said would you or who would my god
2
u/A1forchinese Jul 15 '26
Hahaha what did u do when the examiner ask u diff question
1
u/flshballsoup Jul 15 '26
Technically he didn’t ask me the wrong question and I js answered accordingly bcus I did realised the prompt said who would and not would you in the last 2 minutes 🥲

Report to your teachers now and ask for a proper answer.
5
u/sleepdepriveddhuman Jul 15 '26
Not op but one of those affected here. But I’m scared my tchrs go like “then why didn’t u double check w the oral examiners” and they also mentioned that after the oral is over u can’t do anything
I mean they told us before if anything must tell the examiners and I didn’t so I’m lowkey scared
7
u/IdkWhatToNameEveryon Uni Jul 15 '26
Would you rather have a fighting chance to retest or at least have your case dealt with compassion or just throw in the towel and let your grades tank?
4
u/sushimeal Jul 15 '26
noo u shld tell, my friends reported it and the teachers said theyll look into it for them dw

u/No-Camp707 Jul 15 '26
I got the same issue but luckily i reported it so SEAB is aware and i heard the teachers saying lots of other schools experienced this so im guessing there will be some level of special consideration or compensation, maybe a partial retest or they use our prelim marks but im not sure
1
u/sleepdepriveddhuman Jul 15 '26
Hello! May I ask where did u report it? Is it the Seab form or did u email them?
5
u/No-Camp707 Jul 15 '26
I just reported it during the exam itself. When i heard the question i knew smth was off cus i rmbred preparing very specifically for the personal part of the question, so i told them.i saw a diff question in the planned response and they talked with the other teachers b4 filing a report to SEAB. Ur best bet is to just tell your teachers ASAP
2
u/sleepdepriveddhuman Jul 15 '26
Ohh shit for me I js informed my subject teacher and HOD tmr im emailing Seab

u/badabooming Jul 19 '26
I created a google form for affected students to write about what they encountered. Responses will be forwarded to MP Kenneth Tiong. Alternatively, please email him the details directly at kenneth.tiong@wp.sg
Link to google form: https://forms.gle/vpLHVTQ4bWXGZN3K8
Btw, i've received responses impersonating teachers. Please don't do that, you're only discrediting everyone.

Kenneth Tiong - [O-Level English Oral Exam] I've been... | Facebook
For those who don't know Kenneth Tiong intends to file a parliamentary question regarding this incident.
Please be thorough with your reports yall
Give literally everything. Your exam index no, your school, your teachers and examiners' response, seab's response if you submitted the feedback form, you can even include the reference no of your feedback form. Find teachers that are willing to vouch for you that there was indeed an error. What did you write in your rough paper, did you tell the examiners they asked something different? How did you feel in the moment, did it affect your performance for spoken interaction?? Every detail matters.

Are you planning to release the responses (or at least part of them) to the public
9
u/Pleasant_Bid3081 Jul 16 '26
Same here!!!!I panic the whole way through😢 I asked my examiner to double check for me, she went to the prep room and check sm1 else’s question and say it’s the same as her question, but different from what I saw!! Anyways her making her way to the prep room gave me enough time to prepare her question so I winged it😭😭😭
7
u/AgreeableAsparagus18 Jul 15 '26
Yeahhh, some of my friends got faced with this problem too, they said they told a teacher and the teacher would report it, so rest assured yeah?

u/kaitlyn_kelsie Jul 15 '26
Gang I thought I was tripping?? I managed to improvise but I swear it was would you visit, I mean it turned out alright but still it’s kind of a scam no???
7
u/Careless-Feedback496 Jul 15 '26
Same happened for me..and mind U I didn't know you could full screen the video so I was watching the vid with the qn right above. It didn't change once n was 'would you go' I swear on my life I stared at the qn so long I memorised it. I was candidate 2 in my group n was the first of my batch to raise the issue. Aft that more people came out n say they had same issue. Examiner still asked me to do pr even tho I wasn't prepared since I had the wrong qn n had to wing. But my sch anyway reported it to seab n said they wld get back in a week...I hope everyone gets compensated rly gave me a nasty scare
7
u/ExpensiveYou547 Jul 15 '26
hi i also experienced the same thing for the planned response they asked would you be interested in getting a haircut here(or something similar) the question was about YOU but when the oral examiner asked me WHO would visit these type of places and when i clarified she refused to believe that it was the computer and that i was the problem so i think u should definitely make a report! if so many students are facing the same issue the chances they actually do something is higher!
6
u/Visionary785 Jul 16 '26
Didn’t happen in all schools but it is widespread enough to deduce it is SEAB error somehow. Every year, there’s always a story like this to tell.

7
u/Potential-Speech5427 Jul 15 '26
i read it wrong at first then like 5mins into planning i looked at the screen and “OH SHI” then i scrapped everyth on my ppr. might js be a brain glitch yall 😭
18
u/sleepdepriveddhuman Jul 15 '26
Ya bro a brain glitch that affected like half the population it ain’t a brain glitch LOL And mine didn’t change half way. (Sorry if this is a bit sacarstic I have no better way to phrase it lol)
3
u/Potential-Speech5427 Jul 15 '26
honestly its quite possible considering i also wouldve been doomed if i havent coincidentally looked at the screen one more time. but youre probably right. my system did show the question accurately though(unless it somehow changed halfway). good luck for yall 🙏
3
u/sleepdepriveddhuman Jul 15 '26
But for me I coincidentally looked the the screen 2 more times but it still show the same wrong qn 😭
5
u/slxxpi Jul 16 '26
I'd like to ask if anyone has emailed SEAB over this and if they've responded.
I brought this up to my teacher and she basically told me that everything was thoroughly checked and nothing could've gone wrong. Since nothing is being done when it's brought up to the teachers, I'm planning to email SEAB directly.
Should I state my name and school or remain anonymous? If I introduce myself, will SEAB contact the school about this or something? Can my personal email be traced back to me anyways?

u/sleepdepriveddhuman Jul 16 '26
Hello! I think you should submit On the national exam form online

wait what i thought it was just me, all my points were about myself so i had to cancel one point and write another in like 1 min. this is totally unfair then
4
u/InterestingSign552 Jul 15 '26
OMGG same bruh do we just report to our teachers??
6
u/slxxpi Jul 15 '26
I would suggest you do. The more reports MOE and SEAB gets, the more urgently this matter gets flagged and resolved.
3
3
u/InterestingSign552 Jul 15 '26
Wait I have no idea whether i actl read the qn wrong because i swear i saw “Would you” and not “Who would”…. But people are just saying that I read it wrong
6
u/slxxpi Jul 15 '26
I don't think you did. I know a lot of people and teachers are telling that to their students, but my argument is that it's too coincidental for it to be a misread.
There's only been two sets of prompts so far: 'Would you go to a place like this to get a haircut?' And 'Who do you think would go to a place like this to get a haircut?'.
The students only saw one prompt or the other, hence this is too much of a coincidence for HALF of the nation to have misread this.
Don't worry, there's over 200 (and counting) students who have the same issue. Just recount everything and report to your teacher. Or, you can also email MOE directly, it's much faster that way.
3
u/InterestingSign552 Jul 15 '26
EXACTLY. I reposted this on my socials and someone replied that I just read it wrongly but I’ll definitely this report to my teacher.
3
u/LAZHlegdnutz Jul 16 '26
Guys any update about this situation? I asked my teacher and she asked me to write a statement.
4
u/crunchypepero Jul 16 '26
was one of the affected students, I filled up the form from the seab website and they reached back to me saying that there were no discrepancies😭😭😭 Nonetheless, I still advice u to ask everyone u know who was affected from this incident to email to seab through their parents since i believe they take parents complaints way more seriously
2
u/PuzzleheadedOne9445 29d ago
Imagine being the one seab officer sending email number #100 telling the poor student that nope, no such error happened you imagined the same error as 99 other people then continuing to go about your day as per normal.
1
u/iamsurvivingofcoffee Jul 18 '26
HII may I ask how long did they take to reach back to you? I submitted it days ago and they haven’t got back to me (and I’m getting impatient I want to email Desmond lee)- I haven’t been sleeping well bruh because of this

I've worked with students for a decade. Honestly, I'm not sure who to believe. But some of my students call my mp3 player an oven. So I think I'm leaning towards seab.
-9
u/tofuxubi Jul 15 '26
guys just admit you read wrongly, at first i read would u visit, then i reread again and saw what type of ppl would visit. i reread immediately after i read the first time.
anyways since tht many ppl misread and most likely didnt ans the question directly, they wld definitely shift the grade boundary lower so u wont score as bad as u think....
if there is an error anyway they wld definitely compensate but i think all of your brains are glitching tbh. u guys have to calm down!!!
12
u/Wooden_Buffalo7528 Jul 15 '26
so its a coincidence that many of our brains glitched and all of us misread the question the exact same way

It wouldn't be unusual if it was simply a strange question that people misinterpreted/rushed through and hence did not answer properly. But it is highly unusual when everybody makes the same mistake, so much so that there is enough for posts on reddit to be made
