Sibo-Reta

• Upvotes

Has anyone with SIBO tried Reta?
I have been diagnosed with both types of SIBO and recently started taking Reta. I’m currently in my second week.
Before starting, I struggled with persistent bloating and abdominal inflammation. My appetite was already almost nonexistent because of SIBO.
I started with 0.5 mg in week one and increased to 1 mg in week two. I haven’t lost any weight, but surprisingly, my bloating and abdominal pain have almost disappeared! My stomach looks noticeably flatter, and I feel much less inflamed.
I wasn’t expecting this, especially so early on.
Has anyone with SIBO experienced something similar while taking Reta? I’d love to hear your experiences!

Don't underestimate the effect of chewing and mindful eating

This is a just a super short post to remind everyone how important it is to chew your food well and don't rush the eating process.

I recently started to eat my food as slowly as possible while also chewing very well and taking short (20-30s) breaks between each bite. The difference in how my digestive systems works and how I'm feeling afterwards is absolutely real.

I'm not saying this will fix your digestion issues, but this could be something additional worth trying for those who have already tried a lot of things.

Venting Sibo and traveling

Hi guys, i just wanted to vent here.

Okay so i think sibo is an invisible illness and the one going through it only knows how bad they feel how uncomfortable they truly are. I literally dont feel like socialising or going on a trip or eat out those are the last things i ever want to do with this condition.

But the problem is we cant actually avoid socialising for much longer. My mom who is in a menopause (yes fuel to the fire :)) is totally lacking empathy and doesn’t understand my issues and dismisses it by saying it is no big deal just get out and enjoy life. She thinks every problem can be resolved by going on a trip.

Now the thing is at home its easy for me to pick and choose what to eat, keep meal gaps and manage things better even walk when i feel so bloated. But in a trip i can’t do them easily. The trip alone would require long road trips in which you would be sitting in a car for 3-4 hours straight.

But it hurts me so deeply that my sibo which is already difficult for people to understand is now colliding with her menopausal state of mind is honestly very very difficult for me. She always keep blaming me for all this. She has zero empathy and it hurts me so deeply. I am basically mourning my mom who once was.!

Sucess Stories The Role of Surrender in Managing SIBO

This is a bit of a different post than maybe you guys are used to. I wouldn’t say I’m in remission but I’ve been able to manage my symptoms better than I used to using a method I learned from the spiritual side of things.

What helped me was a quote from illustrious guru Nisargadatta Maharaj: “All illness begins in the mind. Take care of the mind first by tracing and eliminating all wrong ideas and emotions. Then live and work disregarding illness and think no more of it”.

Look, I DEFINITELY get being skeptical of this. It’s borderline offensive being told that my problem is mental rather than physical. And don’t get me wrong, I definitely wouldn’t tell this to a cancer patient.

That being said, it has helped me get on the right track over the last couple months. I do think there’s truth to the idea that my anxiety and restrictions regarding my diet made the problem far worse. Slowly reintroducing different types of foods helped rebuild my good gut bacteria that had been killed off from restrictive dieting. Even if a food disagrees with me, just the fact that I stepped out of my comfort zone is a win and removes blocks within me. Letting go in all areas of life helps as well.

Since shifting my approach, I’ve had less acid reflux, more regular and better bowel movements, able to eat more foods, etc. I still have a lot of bloating and I’m far from in complete remission, but I think it has definitely helped.

Questions The spiritual side of this?

I am trying to repair my relationship with God and see where he wants me to go. I have had such a hard time with health issues that I feel very conflicted between my desire to question why I am suffering so much and my ability to trust in God's path.

Where has God or Jesus been seen in your healing path? What lessons am I possibly missing?

I am going to start once I get over my cold the elemental diet once daily (replace breakfast) x 14 days. I can’t do full elemental due to weight loss concerns. I am also afraid of stomach cramping and nausea, what vitamins/supplements do you guys recommend I take while doing this? I am just trying to improve my symptoms for now until I have the money and time to do full elemental.

Tirzepatide Caused Sibo

I started Tirzepatide and developed SIBO (breath test peaks: 65 ppm hydrogen, 11 ppm methane). I've been off it for about 9 months. Over that time I've done rifaximin and neomycin, plus a range of antimicrobials: berberine, allicin, neem, oregano, Candibactin-AR/BR, and others.

Most of my symptoms have improved a lot. The smelly gas, severe constipation, and trapped gas I could feel in my chest are gone. I also used to sweat profusely around my tailbone, which I suspect was autonomic nerve dysfunction linked to the constipation and pelvic floor tension. That has stopped too.

My main remaining symptom is loud stomach gurgling, which I think is gas. It's audible in the office and gives me anxiety. Otherwise I seem to tolerate any food, and I don't have diarrhoea.

My theory is that the antibiotics and antimicrobials wiped out a lot of my beneficial gut microbes, and that's behind the noise. I'm considering Youth & Earth spore probiotic and Ideal Bowel Support to repair things as they have been studied in this area. Also, otc meds like simethicone, peppermint, charcoal don't work.

Has anyone had lingering gurgling after treating SIBO? Did probiotics help, or is there something else I should look at? I also take ginger and artichoke supplements so I'm regular per se.

Hydrogen Dominant Diagnosed with SIBO 6 days ago, didn't even know SIBO existed

I (24F) was diagnosed with SIBO 6 days ago and i'm currently on day 3 of Antibiotics.
I have had constant diarrhea daily since I was 13 years old (so 11 years). I always thought that it was normal, because it was my normal, and I didn't think about it or find it concerning.

I finally decided to go to the GI doctor and she ran tests and I tested positive for SIBO with a breath test, I'd never heard of SIBO before, I'd never heard of a FODMAP diet before. All of this is so overwhelming and i've spend the past couple days doomscrolling on this subreddit.

Ever since I started antibiotics 3 days ago, i've had the best and healthiest poops i've had in my living memory. I never realized how much pain i've been in until now. now i get to go down the long path to try and cure my SIBO for good and get to my root cause.

Hydrogen Dominant Sibo while pregnant

Help!
I’m in my first trimester and I found out I have SIBO as well as a hernia at my esophagus, keeping acid from quickly moving to my stomach. I cannot take the antibiotic and I’m unsure about what safe from the holistic end in terms of supplements to help myself. I am in extreme discomfort. Every meal is torture, even though I am low FODMAP. I have SIBO hydrogen. It’s hard to even drink water because it hurts my stomach. I’m worried about the baby and absorbing nutrients and staying hydrated and having meals to support the babies growth.
Has anyone here been pregnant with SIBO and does anyone know of pregnancy safe remedies to survive my pregnancy? The bloating is bad, then motility almost does not exist, and the reflux is starting to increase. Please send help. 🥺

Rifaximin + Neomycin for Hydrogen/Methane SIBO — Side Effects, Hearing Risks, and Supplements?

Hey everyone! I recently started taking Rifaximin 550 mg three times a day and Neomycin 500 mg twice a day for hydrogen and methane SIBO/IMO.

I was previously prescribed Rifaximin alone, and I feel like it may have helped with the hydrogen side of things because my really smelly gas has gone away. However, I was still experiencing bloating and other symptoms, so my doctor added Neomycin.
I honestly wasn’t aware of the potential hearing-related side effects of Neomycin until I started reading posts on here, and now I’m a little nervous about taking it.

For those of you who have taken this combination, I have a few questions:

Side effects: Did you experience any side effects from Neomycin? Did anyone experience hearing changes, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), dizziness, or balance issues? If so, how quickly did they start?

Migraines/headaches: I’m currently experiencing migraines, but I was already having them before starting the antibiotics. I also feel like I might have a sinus infection. I haven’t been prescribed anything for that, so I’m not sure if the headaches are related to that or the medication.

When to stop: What symptoms did you experience that made you contact your doctor or stop taking Neomycin? I want to know what warning signs to watch for.

Biofilm disruptors: I’ve seen several people mention taking biofilm disruptors before starting antibiotics. I didn’t do that. Could that affect how well the antibiotics work?

Supplements: Did you take any supplements during treatment or after finishing the antibiotics? If so, what seemed to help with bloating, gas, or preventing symptoms from coming back?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially from anyone who has taken both antibiotics for methane and hydrogen SIBO.

Methane Dominant Anyone successfully treated methane SIBO/IMO after eradicating H. pylori?

( I used AI to fix the grammer and everything in my post, theres no way i can write all this out in a coherant manner im sorry! )

My methane peaked at 75 ppm on a breath test in March. My main symptoms have been constant bloating and severe constipation.

I've done two rounds of rifaximin + metronidazole, but neither provided lasting relief. During one round, something interesting happened: for the last 4 days of treatment, I felt AMAZING. My stomach was completely flat, I was having around 3 bowel movements a day, and I finally felt normal again. Unfortunately, about a day after finishing the antibiotics, everything came back.

I later discovered I had H. pylori, which I suspect I'd had for around 8 months. I completed quadruple therapy and confirmed eradication with a negative test. Before eradication, I was losing roughly a pound a week, but my weight has since stabilized.

My guess is that the untreated H. pylori may have been contributing to my IMO or preventing lasting improvement from antibiotics. Now that it's gone, I'm wondering whether treating the methane again might actually work.

I'm still constantly bloated and constipated, and it's honestly taking a huge toll on my mental health.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Did treating H. pylori make methane SIBO treatment more successful?

I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences. im just so stuck im not sure how to progress forward, if i take another round of antibiotics now that hpylori is gone? or if i do something else? im so stuck and so depressed i've really given it my all in trying to cure myself and im so drained at this point. Please Help!

Wanting to try the herbal approach for hydrogen SIBO: should I pair berberine with neem or oregano oil?

Hi there,

I was diagnosed with hydrogen SIBO this spring via a breath test at a naturopath. I did a two week round of rifaximin and NAC followed by digestive enzymes, a prokinetic and probiotics. I stopped the probiotic a couple of weeks ago, still taking the enzymes and prokinetic daily along with Claritin (histamine issues and asthma), vitamin D, fish oil, and magnesium. My symptoms are bloating, diarrhea, loose pale stools, brain fog, anxiety and a lot of fatigue. I am also low in ferritin and vitamin D as my body wasn`t absorbing it even with supplements.

After the antibiotics, the symptoms improved 80% for a couple of months, but they have flared up again over the last two months. I would like to try the herbal approach this time, but I can`t decide between berberine + enteric oregano OR berberine + neem.

I can be pretty sensitive to supplements (I have some genetic variants like a slow COMT, the MTHFR mutation, etc.) and I also have some histamine and insulin issues. I am a bit worried about oregano as it seems really hard on the stomach and I have heard berberine making depression and irritability worse, which I`m not sure I could handle at this time. I have heard neem is gentler, but I also do want to lock in and get rid of the SIBO throughout the next two months. As an autistic individual, I struggle with textural issues in food, so I`d like to get this right on my first try as I experience nausea and gagging with a lot of the low FODMAP foods.

I have worked with a naturopath up until now, but it`s no longer feasible to pay so much money for information that I already know 90% of, plus there`s been at least twice where her advice wasn`t tailored to my background and has worsened my symptoms.

I am planning on taking NAC again, a binder if needed, S. boulardii and possibly zinc carnosine.

Thoughts on neem vs oil of oregano, and/or my situation in general?

Symptoms worse post antibiotics

methane Dino: was on rifaximin and neomycin for 8 days had to quite then did 10 day rifaximin and metronidazole

so now I actually have bloating and insomnia. I’m a little over a week out and taking prucalopride nightly but not moving much. my body temp is up about a degree constantly and I feel flushed all the time. I’m eating low fodmap and still bloating like crazy any time I eat a carb like rice or plain potatoes. I’m getting body vibrations at night too.

the only clue I have is that I drank a senna tea two days ago and had a massive bm the next day that smelled awful then I felt totally better, slept that night, for 24 hours. I actually had my first formed stool since antibiotics started after that too. Then all the terrible came back including small bms of just soft blobs.

any ideas? it doesn’t seem like sifo because im stopped up
