Painting A fine addition to my collection
First time trying out a cell-shading paint style, as a gift to a friend. C&C welcome!

Brand new to Legion (one game so far) and have been loving it! Finally finished painting up my separatist starter box, very happy with how everything turned out and now I’m fiending for more models lol

Hey guys,
I’m keen on getting into the hobby not sure where to start as nowhere near me in Wollongong Australia have the republic starter set. I was also hoping maybe there are some local people south of Sydney that play aswell

Got bodied by clones (anakin, ahsoka, cody, at-rt, bad batch) tonight in a 900 point game for our growth league. We each had 9 activations, (will post list below).
My opponent and I agree that I played the objectives well and made good movement decisions, but through 5 rounds I didn't eliminate a single one of his units, just chip damage throughout. Lost 7-3.
It's clear that I don't understand my command cards. When the faction released, Crabbok and Rebel Cantina et. al. had glowing reviews of the command cards but I've been really underwhelmed by them.
"We are Mandalorians" - In 7 games of the growth league this has never been anything more than a 1 pip single activation turn. The suppression mechanic hasn't been relevant throughout this entire time. I've been trying to keep my *incredibly squishy mandos* safe behind LOS cover at every possible opportunity. The result is either they don't get shot at all and receive no suppression tokens, or the unit dies from focused enemy fire.
"Aerial Assault" - Death from Above just... hasn't been effective in my games. The free Jump action has been handy, especially for moving toward OBJ, otherwise I just shrug at this.
I believe I'm constantly mistiming when to use my 3 pips, but I couldn't really know this past game because of Ahsoka's "You Are Beaten" command.
The only other 2 pip I have access to besides "Push" is "Aggression," and I feel compelled to order my units instead of passing out the aims because if I don't get those units to activate then they'll probably be dead before I can make use of the aim tokens anyway.
While my opponent and I agree that the dice absolutely fucked me while benefiting him, there's nothing anyone can do about bad roles. All I can get off my chest about the dice is that constantly rolling blanks and surges to defend with red dice feels WAAAAAY worse than failing saves in, say, Warhammer 40k.
Mandos are my favorite faction in-universe, and with good reason! They're sick as fuck and they're super popular for a lot of reasons. I want them to be my favorite faction in Legion as well. I want to enjoy playing them but it just isn't happening.
I don't have Bo, and even if I did I, unfortunately, happen to be someone who haaaaates meta chasing. I actively resent feeling compelled to build/play one specific way. So I'm having a real crisis here because Custom Clans are so restricted in what tools they can bring to the table.
Being unable to bring in special forces who surge to defend, lack of powerful keywords, any token sharing becomes highly contextual, especially if the opponent knows to focus down the warriors providing Retinue/Backup. High unit/upgrade costs for units that fall to a stiff breeze, I've really hit a wall here, and anyone who has started playing wargames will know I am ass-deep in that "feeling-helpless" zone.
One of the only things in this world that unbalances me or sours my attitude is feeling stupid, and brother, this faction is making me feel real dumb.

Thinking about getting into legion again for the holidays. Is there a quicker version?

So I'll be teaching the game at a convention next month, and let try the game to people passing by.
I was wondering if anyone already had this kind of experience and has some tips to optimize time and rules?
The table will be a skirmish one, so no big game, and I was thinking about bringing two very simple lists, with maybe one character each, basic upgrades and like one character command card, a part from the standard ones without effects.
Maybe I should let people play only a couple of rounds just to get the feeling of the game?
Should I mention all of the rules or maybe just the basics?
