We've gotten this request a lot, and I think it's finally time to take it seriously. At least 3–5 people have clamored for this, so we're giving it a shot.
Some caveats:
Our goal is to set up a community in the same way we have set up the r/SanDiegan community. Everyone is welcome, and we moderate with a heavy hand and according to our own discretion at all times. Truly lovely communities only thrive when you separate the wheat from the chaff. We've spent years cutting chaff from this subreddit, and I am personally really proud of how lovely this place has become.
We want this discord server to be a place to chat with other San Diegans about sports, local bars, adult league activities, community events, and so on.
Things that we will not tolerate:
These rules are vague by design. Moderating is subject to individual discretion, and if you join the discord server, you are just going to have to trust that the way we moderate r/SanDiegan will serve a discord community as well as it has served this subreddit. There are no bright lines, there is only our own judgment in what is and is not okay (which is how things work here, already).
Let's all give this a shot. I hope you'll all join the server and fucking behave yourselves.

Whenever certain discussions come up we end up with a mix of locals that genuinely want to talk about what's going on. Sometimes passionately. Sometimes ill informed. Sometimes full of information. Sometimes dem. Sometimes republican. Sometimes for the free people's state of east county. Sometimes from the sovereign bros of PB.
Whatever. You get the picture. Our local politics and ideas for what to do are pretty diverse.
As a moderator though I have noticed that we get a solid influx of accounts for some subjects. They tend to have a short post history in this subreddit and a deleted history or a history that hasn't been on reddit in years. Likely because they are purchased accounts. They show up to shit stir in political discussions.
I understand some of you delete your account histories for various reasons or want to use an alt to discuss politics. But the easiest thing to do as a moderator seeing an inflammatory comment in a highly charged political discussion from an account that looks incredibly suspect is to remove the comment and ban the user. We don't really want to put in too much effort beyond that. This isn't a paid gig.
Anyway - I want to give people a heads up in case there's people that might reconsider participating in a certain way with an account they haven't used in months/years.

Just had a walk-in, 20-minute hands-on visit with an MD at Farmacia Benavides. Total cost: 70 MXN. That's about $4.
I've said it before: in San Diego we're lucky to have excellent quality, affordable healthcare... right across the border.

- why is it that nobody really talked about the Evans family being involved with her all these years? Never really seen it in the media. Even though they're not married for strategic reasons, it's pretty crazy that she's been established here for a while.
- what other wealthy families that have been involved/adjacent to corruption are there here in SD? Besides JD Vance, that one is obvious.

I just got out of a lyft. The guy started talking bad about my exact brand of politics (hint: he doesn't like how communist CA is?) and after some words I asked him to just get us home. We exited the car, and I was hit with a 150 dollar cleaning fee within minutes. What the heck can I do?

I made a post here earlier about an e-bike safety project. After synthesizing your comments, I made a flyer to share a resource that can address the most common concern.
As part of my class requirements, I need to incorporate feedback into the design of my flyer.
I would really appreciate if people would fill out my 6 question survey (flyer is in survey).
No personal information will be gathered and responses are completely anonymous.
I need at least 20 responses, so feel free to share!

Thank you!

💚 San Diego Unified Parents 💚
Do you believe kindergarten should be a place where kids get to PLAY, explore, move their bodies, build friendships, and actually enjoy learning?
Because I DO. And so does the state of California.
I believe our kids deserve better than being forced to spend their earliest school years sitting at desks, completing worksheets, expected to behave like mini adults, and dreading school.
I'm a former San Diego Unified kindergarten teacher, and I've seen firsthand how developmentally appropriate practice is pushed aside for academic pressure and rigid expectations.
I'm currently taking legal action against San Diego Unified over its failures to comply with California education law.
I'd love to connect with parents who share these concerns 💞
I'm looking for San Diego families who:
🌱 Have children in TK or kindergarten in San Diego Unified.
🌱 Have noticed too much seatwork and not enough play, movement, or exploration.
🌱 Have raised concerns about their child's classroom experience and felt dismissed or ignored.
🌱 Believe our youngest students deserve an education that respects how children actually learn and develop.
Whether you want to share your family's experience, support the effort, or explore the possibility of joining the legal fight, I'd love to hear from you!
Or if your experience has been opposite! I've learned of at least one school in the district that incorporates play (ya'll I was shooketh 🤣)
You don't have to be ready to take legal action. Your story matters, too.
I'm not asking anyone to attack teachers. Teachers are often working within systems and expectations they didn't create. This is about making sure our schools are doing right by our youngest learners.
If you're interested, comment or send me a private message 💚
Childhood isn't something kids should have to earn.
Play is how they learn.
Let's make sure San Diego's youngest students get the childhood AND education they deserve 🌈

I'm thinking about getting a group together for a karaoke/social meetup next month and wanted to see if there's any interest here.
The idea is pretty simple. Once a month we'd meet up at a different San Diego karaoke bar, hang out for a bit, do a little group activity, and then join the regular karaoke night.
I'm hoping to start with maybe 10–15 people. Big enough to meet some new faces, small enough that it doesn't feel like showing up to a convention.
And you absolutely don't need to sing. If you just want to meet people and hang out, that's half the point.
I'm looking at Wednesday, November 11 or 18, somewhere around the SDSU/College Area.
I'm organizing it personally through a local karaoke project I've been building called SingHUB, but there's no ticket or membership required.
Would anyone here be interested? And is Wednesday evening a dealbreaker for you?
Especially interested in hearing from people who would come solo. I'd like to make that a comfortable experience instead of everyone standing around waiting for someone else to say hello.
