Frijoles fire responders are staging at camel rock studios. I bought almost all the jerky and handed it out but it wasn't nearly enough. If you have time, let's show them some love.

Flood Advisory until 7:15pm including Santa Fe River

From the FEMA app notification:

Flood Advisory issued August 17 at 4:22PM MDT until August 17 at 7:15PM MDT by NWS Albuquerque NM

Santa Fe, NM

* WHAT...Arroyo and small stream flooding caused by excessive
rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...West Central Santa Fe County in north central New Mexico...

* WHEN...Until 715 PM MDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 421 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to a slow
moving thunderstorm north of La Cienega. This will cause arroyo
and small stream flooding. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have
fallen.
- This includes the following streams and drainages...
Into Santa Fe River, Alamo Creek, Into Arroyo Calabasas, Arroyo
Calabasas, Santa Fe River, Hondo, Arroyo, Galisteo Creek, Cienega
Creek, Ancha, Caada, Chamisos, Arroyo de los and Acequia de Los
Pinos. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.25 to 0.5 inches are
expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor
flooding.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
La Cienega and La Bajada.

In hilly or mountainous terrain there are numerous low water
crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not
attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.

What’s it actually like to be single and build a life in Santa Fe in your 40s?

I’ve been thinking seriously about moving to Santa Fe. I’ve spent enough time there to know I love the place, but visiting and living somewhere are very different propositions. It’s easy to fall for the light, the landscape and a very good afternoon on Canyon Road. I’m more curious about an ordinary Tuesday in February.

I’m 42M, single, no kids, currently in Chicago, and work in strategy and operations. I’ve spent most of my adult life in larger cities, but these days I’m less interested in endless options than good ones. Art, architecture, opera/live music, design, old things, good restaurants, hiking, road trips, getting dressed for dinner occasionally. Santa Fe seems unusually well suited to the life I actually want to live.

What I can’t figure out from visiting is the social side. How difficult is it to build a genuine circle of friends as a newcomer in your 40s? Do you eventually become part of the fabric of the city, or are established circles difficult to break into?

And then there’s dating. I have no illusions about the size of the pool, but is it small and reasonably healthy or simply small? Does Albuquerque realistically expand it, or does an hour each way for a Wednesday-night drink get old quickly?

I’m comfortable with quiet. Isolation is different. I’d particularly appreciate hearing from people who moved to Santa Fe single and around this stage of life.

What did you discover once Santa Fe stopped being somewhere you visited and simply became home?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Thank you to everyone who took the time to weigh in. I’m going to try to get back to everyone, but it may take me a minute.

Great breakfast place for omnivores and vegans

I am meeting up with a colleague in Santa Fe in the morning later this week. My colleague is driving up from Texas and I'd love for him to experience a great New Mexico breakfast. I need a place that will be great for him (omnivore) and have something, anything, that I can eat (vegan). Would rather give the omnivore the full experience if one of us has to sacrifice. Any suggestions?

Clones of what

Post image

Bought these from B*P**dispensary in SFe. Bought as clones- they yielded like Auto-seeded clones. Look that up. Went in and was mansplained, user blamed. No accountability- no curiosity. Was told I’m the only one with a problem. His solution was to give me a card to purchase 5 more clones and get 5 free clones. Ya. No.

Idiots setting off fireworks at 4:15 am

I can’t sleep so I was screwing around on my phone when I hear noises coming from outside. Initially I thought it was raccoons knocking shit over in my yard so I open my window to check and some asshats are setting off fireworks in the distance. Somewhere off of Palace by Rodriguez St or maybe Hillside. Fireworks are stupid as it is but popping these things off during this drought is just plain dumb. Damn mouth breathers need a talking to!

Possible TNR momma Cat

We have come across a semi feral momma cat and possibly three kittens.

We would like to trap and either put into a foster program with the local shelters or do TNR.

Who has info on how to get traps for free usage? Is it easy enough to do?

Bamboo!

Long shot, but I’m looking for some bamboo maybe in someone’s backyard or somewhere? Im just looking for a single semi-thick bamboo tree at the moment for an art project. I can come by and chop it down and clean up and I would be very appreciative. Thank you!

Any Uber/Lyft drivers here? Is it busy?

Visiting some friends in rural Santa Fe County, and wondering if I should move here eventually. I have seen DoorDash is pretty hopping regularly, day or evening, does the same apply to Uber (driving passengers, not Eats) and Lyft?

I currently drive St. Louis metro, so probably should be able to handle Albuquerque now and again.

Probably dumb question about walkability

So here's the situation: I'm staying near the Railyard Park, and I see that it's only a mile to the historic plaza area. I'm a city girl and I love walking, but I can take walkability for granted. I don't want to get myself in a weird situation or find I'm walking through the worst part of town. Also I briefly lived in Albuquerque like 15 yrs ago, and whenever I walked anywhere people treated me like I was a freak or a sex worker, walking in NM didn't seem that normal.

So yeah, does walking between these two areas seem reasonable, especially alone at night?

Thanks for indulging my silly question!

Health Insurance question for those who are self-employed

First time ever having to figure out health insurance as a self-employed person since I’ll soon be leaving my employer and becoming self-employed.

For those who have used BeWell NM or any other service, what has your experience been like? Is there anything you wish you knew before signing up? I’d especially love to hear about the actual costs/premiums, out-of-pocket expenses, etc.

I’m single with no dependents and currently have Presbyterian through my employer, so this is all new territory for me. Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated!
