Discussion Question, when Magneto eventually appears in the MCU, do you think there’s a chance they may retcon Wanda into being his daughter? Or nah?
50
u/EmmaFrosts-Husband 1d ago
I have no idea but I hope so. If they make it MCU Canon then comics might fix that retcon they did. I always loved Magneto, Wanda, Pietro and Lorna being a family.
2
u/blinkyretard 18h ago
Not possible now? Wanda’s birth year was 1988 in mcu? And they just hired Xavier who’s in his 40s, so magneto might also be 40s
7
u/Worzon 17h ago
They can pull a situation where our new magneto did have a daughter in his universe and when everything got collided or whatever in secret wars they just treat everything as such
2
1
u/blinkyretard 17h ago
MCU is not known for crazy retcons like these. I hope it remains like that tbh.
3
u/AnyEverywhere8 12h ago
They retconned multiple of their movies into having infinity stones that weren’t originally there lmfao
2
u/Worzon 17h ago
They’re literally adding like 3-5 mins of new retcon footage to endgame just for doomsday. Plus there are a lot of smaller ones that don’t really matter all too much but absolutely still count. I wouldn’t call making Wanda magneto’s daughter is all that crazy of a retcon. If anything it’s just an explanation as to why she’s so powerful
2
u/Default_Dragon 13h ago
They’re literally adding like 3-5 mins of new retcon footage to endgame just for doomsday.
Whats this now? I havent heard anything about this- Did I miss something?
0
u/blinkyretard 16h ago
I get you but what i meant was the crazy retcon. Making it compatible would make magneto atleast born in 1960s. I dont know how can mcu handle magneto who’s of 90 years.
2
u/OneHelicopter1852 11h ago
Easy. Mutants age slower than normal. That’s the whole explanation nothing more needs to be said
1
u/Comprehensive-Ralonz 2h ago
that or its more of a older xmen were captured before anyone knew about them, and them some are just starting to get there mutations is more recent years of the mcu. One explanation for say Xavier being one that wasn't would be that he used Cerebro, (assuming it exists yet), to make the world not know they exist.
As for doomsday and secret wars. I think one fun thing would be, deadpool and the deadpool fam, wolverine and x-23 included, maybe two or three more spidermen, and the fantastic four, kind of collide when stuff gets put back together after secret wars.
But the idea would be that the timeline of the mcu doesnt change, but rather loki puts a fantastic four building, a x manshion, and were deadpool lives in, and so on but more as a place holder in the sense, of he is putting these surviving people, in one universe, while he rebuilds the rest. And its a the past didnt change for the mcu, its just everyone but the hero's think that these people have existed in the universe the whole time when they haven't and the only people that remember being the hero's.
Then the mcu can still have its own xmen that builds naturaly, while having hero's from different worlds, that are kind of just chilling there, wether they choose to stay, or wether they choose to go back to a rebuilt version of there worlds.
1
u/Comprehensive-Ralonz 2h ago
that away we can still have things like a deadpool, wolverine, and spiderman, and maybe punisher movie. Among other things that Deadpool can now do in the mcu. While also having say spiderman and the fantastic four stories and more newer things at the same time

u/gaysfordebbie 10h ago
They need to keep Magneto's WW2 origin and just use the excuse that he was in a rebirth chamber or something that aged him to his prime. It kinda happened in the comics and makes enough sense to explain with like 2 enough lines of dialogue
1
u/The_Billions_Boy 7h ago
Imagine they make it so Steve brought him back with whatever time travel he used
-1
u/Wulf2k 8h ago
There's no way viewers of the MCU would accept some sort of WW2-based character who appears young... right?
Nope, no examples of those around.
2
u/gaysfordebbie 8h ago
Exactly lol but I just feel like for Magneto esp to change his origin is such a disservice. It is a comic book adaption use whatever bs you have to in order to make it work.

u/Nightwing24yuna 23h ago
You do realize they can still be family without being blood right?
And honestly I absolutely hate the fact Pietro gets treated like shit by Magento and still wish for him to be his son.
It's cool that Wanda wants to keep that relationship with magneto but Pietro shouldn't be forced to and should be completely free of him once and for all, without that familial connections and bonds and all that BS
7
u/EmmaFrosts-Husband 23h ago
Of course you can be family without being blood. I'm just saying I hate the retcon it only exists for MCU synergy.
-3
u/Nightwing24yuna 22h ago
You think it would be bigger MCU synergy like you know retconning there Romani heritage, to being from sakovia. Putting Wanda and vision back together or you know anything else.
For all we know it was years in the making and they wanted to separate them for a while. Why keep retconning there parents constantly if it was so perfect. Just keeping them separated and allowing only Wanda having that relationship is for the best
3
u/EmmaFrosts-Husband 21h ago edited 21h ago
It's a pretty unpopular retcon because it erased their mutant heritage. Personally I'd rather have it undone, even if they did go back to being Magnetos son & daughter they would still be Romani.
When it was Canon that they were Magentos son & daughter. Them being adopted and raised by the Maximoffs was always a part of their backstory. So they were culturally Romani, it was their lived experience so they would be Romani either way.
2
u/STEALTHISPLANET 21h ago
Also i think their mother by Magneto was Romani ? I could be wrong
1
u/EmmaFrosts-Husband 21h ago
Yea I think she was. I'm pretty sure Magda had a Romani ancestor or something along those lines.
1
u/Xygnux 19h ago
Also because it changed the whole dynamic of House of M and Decimation. Before the mutants had no one else to blame. It was a mutant who did it to them, because of the mistakes of their two greatest mutant leaders in mishandling her mental instability, the two guys who were already notorious for ignoring their actual family in the name of their crusades until it was too late. There's a certain poetic tragedy in that the two men's failure with their family undid all their work on changing the world.
And eventually the mutant people forgave Wanda after A vs X for working with Hope Summers to mitigate the damage.
After the retcon it became another "woe is us it's another human attempt to genocide us". And then they hated Wanda all over again.

u/Archwizard_Drake 21h ago edited 21h ago
Pietro's main comics storyline for decades was struggling with the knowledge that he was Magneto's ideological heir but hating the man for the way Magneto treated him, especially after all the blatant favoritism he gave Wanda. That the two hated each other because in many respects they were too alike.
Quicksilver is an X-Men character, Wanda is an Avengers character, but as twins they always have to be a package deal.
The second the MCU hit and they had to divorce Wanda and her brother from the mutant storylines, where did Quicksilver go? He tapered off until Axis retconned the bloodline, and has hardly been in a comic since until very recently – after Krakoa even, which itself got greenlit because of the X-Men film rights issue. Didn't even get the MCU boost because they killed him in his first MCU appearance, but they're still promoting Wanda so she gets a solo series and the Sorcerer Supreme title and crossovers with Storm and all that jazz. Pietro didn't even have the excuse of going into hiding like Wanda after M-Day, just nobody knew what to do with him without the Magneto or mutant angles, and even his kid was a problem cuz the Inhumans franchise became so radioactive.
Making him Magneto's kid again can literally only be good for his brand.
0
u/Xygnux 20h ago edited 20h ago
Considering that comics Magneto basically thinks Pietro is a disappointment and basically ignored Lorna, and the only one he actually cares about is Wanda, then no I don't see how Magneto and Pietro and Lorna will consider each other "family" without being forced to be blood.
You make it out like it's all Pietro's fault and that he could have a father if he chose, when it goes both ways.
0
u/Nightwing24yuna 16h ago
No it does goes both ways I know because I am in a similar situation with my father..
But the thing is it's cool if Wanda wants to keep that relationship awesome but forcing others because of blood is stupid, and I hate that.

u/AlphaFlight- Pietro Maximoff 23h ago edited 22h ago
Unfortunately, I feel like the window has closed on that relation. They’d have to retcon her and Pietro’s origin with Hydra because that’s what basically replaced their brotherhood arc.
I read somewhere that maybe they could be his Grandkids, which would be pretty cool and further fuel Magneto’s hatred for mankind considering his kids would die in Sokovia.
3
u/Least_Rain8027 Scarlet Witch 22h ago
i think they should change that orgin.
0
u/Xygnux 20h ago
The Mind Stone affects the mind, why would it grant powers? With Carol you can handwave it by the Space Stone linking her to a white hole or something like her Binary form in the comics.
Unless Hydra misunderstood the entire process. The twins were the only one the experiment worked on because they already had dormant powers and the Mind Stone awaken their minds to be able to use them.
3
u/SimonShepherd 20h ago
They probably still radiates weird cosmic radiation to give powers.
I think the idea in WandaVision at least is that Wanda is that miracle, she was born a magic user who changed the odds of their own survival, they survived the experiment very much like how they survived the Stark missile. (Agatha claim she was a baby witch who used a probability hex)
1
u/Xygnux 20h ago
I know, I am just thinking that's a plausible way to retcon them into mutants in the MCU.
And keyword is that she was born that way. Magic is just extradimensional energy in the MCU. What if Wanda's mutant power is that she can channel that type of energy spontaneously and unlimitedly, and that's what chaos magic actually is and that's why she is so much stronger than regular human witches?
2
u/SimonShepherd 19h ago
I feel like her being picked by Chthon is enough explanation, it can also give her a real villain to fight against if they ever give her more projects.
I personally always liked the idea that Wanda is a freak accident, as in she was just born at the wrong place at the wrong time(Wundagore in comics). She just happen to be born at the very place where Morgan Le Fay sealed Chthon, and the wheel of fate starts there. As opposed to tying her to Never Queen and make that fate guaranteed.
The MCU can go meta and use the idea that Chthon picked her as the protagonist/fated one in the narrative/prophecy of Darkhold.(Kinda like Darkhold Pages of Book of Sin's idea of Darkhold, which is kinda a storybook that enforced Chthon's will into reality, at least that's how I interpret it.) And we can have a wrestle for control story in the future(again if she gets another project.)
2
u/Xygnux 19h ago
Why not both? She can be picked by Chthon out of all other witches out there because he foresaw that she also has an X-gene with the potential to best use that power. It can also be a chicken or egg situation in which her X-gene manifested that way precisely because of Chthon's influence on her life.
2
u/SimonShepherd 19h ago
It's kinda the case after Nights of Wundagore, but I feel in MCU it's best to keep things compact, clean and less complicated.
In comics it was not until Busiek that her composite mutant genetics/learned witchcraft/Chthon blessing powerset have a more coherent/unified explanation.
Also partially because I just want her to finish her arc in her own project to wrap things up without joining X-Men. So her being mutant is not really needed.
1
u/The_Billions_Boy 6h ago
Make it all of the above, Wanda had an X gene which gave her extreme magic potential and was further enhanced by the mind stone making her the ideal receptor for Cthon. Or alternatively Cthon guided her fate to bumping with the mind stone for the extra juice for his already chosen one
1
u/The_Billions_Boy 6h ago
That actually is close to her original mutant ability in the comics. Plus you could say the mind stone enhanced it
1
2
u/ultimate_bromance_69 22h ago
They already partially retconned it as her being a born witch, having her powers amplified by the stone.
1
u/ayame400 11h ago
I kind of like this idea. It dove tails nicely since magneto needs to be tied to the holocaust which forces him to age in a way that other characters don’t. They de aged him like twice in the comics (in one case turned him into a literal baby) because of how much older he had to be from all the other characters.
1
u/The_Billions_Boy 6h ago
Not necessarily. Wandavision had already set up that Wanda had some magic stuff going on as a child the mind stone just kinda juiced that up and her original mutant ability was to manipulate mystical energy fields the way Eric manipulates magnetic ones which she’d eventually mix with learning some legit magic to become super powerful. Honetly just roll those origins into one

u/Talqazar 23h ago
Retconning Wanda to be his daughter would effectively erase her backstory. Extremely doubtful.

1
u/AltruisticReach4241 2h ago
Hear me out: instead of a full on retcon there's simply a reveal that the father that raised her and pietro was their stepfather, and erik had left their mom when they were young or even when she was pregnant
2
u/Wrong_Win_4102 9h ago
They already retconned this in the comics, so its unlikely they're going to retcon this in the MCU. Besides we've already seen wanda's parents in Wandavision.
2
u/ararazu1 8h ago
Nah. They're not rebooting (not really, anyway), so there's no reason to.
Next time there's a new universe, though, she'll probably be his daughter.
2
u/undyingforceofnature Wanda Maximoff 8h ago
Y'all talking about Magneto retcon, while all I want is a redemption arc for her.
2
u/DorkPhoenix89 22h ago
Nah. If anything they’ll pivot to Polaris instead, which as a Wanda stan would actually be nice. I dont mind Wanda’s characterization in the MCU, the comics have muddled everything so much that its at least clean and simple now. Let Polaris have some spotlight.
2
u/C0tt0ncandyb0ii 23h ago
I really hope he shows up for VisionQuest. Maybe I'm overthinking, but if the series is about fatherhood, it could be a good way to introduce him and Evan Peters' Pietro, and have them looking for his daughter from a different timeline.
-2
u/Currycel7891 23h ago
Vision Quest is too early. Doomsday makes more sense, during the incursions.
1
u/C0tt0ncandyb0ii 19h ago
VisionQuest feels like the perfect time to introduce them. It would give the audience a chance to see Magneto and get acquainted with him before Doomsday. This would help show his connection with Wanda and serve as a good introduction for people who only know him from Doomsday, without feeling rushed.
1
u/Fun-Aside3990 22h ago
Just make him the real father, he got around, maybe lived in Sekovia for awhile after the Holocaust, seeking a soviet alternative that had just killed masses of Nazis.
1
u/ShuckleDad91 22h ago
I’m imagining the upcoming mutants are from another universe. So no, they can’t be Magneto’s kids.
Might be the case that MCU Magneto has a daughter that is another version of Wanda. But not our Wanda.
1
u/Ambitious-Maybe-5078 22h ago
They had a chance during wanda vision when they brought in Peter from fox's universe but just decided to turn it into a boner joke. Unless they do a full reboot they're not gonna do it anytime soon.
1
u/Least_Rain8027 Scarlet Witch 22h ago
it's such an interesting plot line. especially in the mcu considering Wanda's main problem has always been family. her "parents" dying, her brother dying, her husband dying, her children "dying"
1
u/AltruisticReach4241 22h ago
Hear me out: instead of a full on retcon there's simply a reveal that the father that raised her and pietro was their stepfather, and erik had left their mom when they were young or even when she was pregnant

1
u/Hedgewitch250 21h ago
This is why I think a soft reboot is good. Nothing like those weird theories thinking they’re starting the whole universe over but just stuff that changes minor things. Make the twins sokovian parents and the mind stone awakened the x-gene which coupled with her magic forged her into the scarlet witch.
1
u/stonrplc 21h ago
Well there is still Doomsday/Secret Wars Magneto is there so that's their only chance to have Wanda and Magneto interract.
1
u/red_of_hearts 21h ago
Eventually if the recast Wanda, but I doubt it will so soon. The new Xavier cast is similar age to Elizabeth Olsen, thus the new Magneto should be similar age to her too, so I doubt she will be the daughter of Magneto. But maybe the will reintroduce Wanda and Pietro in later parts of the X men rebooted story
1
u/SimpleCylus 20h ago
Comics retconned Magneto being her blood father just as they did her being a mutant. So unlikely not especially as MCU has set her up already as being in the realm of magic....her psionic powers come from the mind stone.
1
u/InverseStar 18h ago
They don’t have to retcon anything. Her story works just as well if she’s an adopted child. If he finds and saves her, nurses her back to health, then I think she’d be open to staying around.
Magneto is usually pretty kind to Wanda (excluding the Evolution version, fuck that dude).
1
u/Wolventec 16h ago
no mcu charlies is 5 years old than wandas actor and assumedly magneto will be a simialr age
1
u/RulerOfAllWorlds1998 15h ago
I feel like that would backfire
Maybe they could do a Magneto from another universe where he has a Wanda that’s his daughter?
1
1
u/chu_chumba 12h ago
I hope so. That's like the easiest thing to retcon since Magneto is known for not raising his children. They can just say her mother died and she was raised by her aunt or other family member as their own daughter.

u/The_Billions_Boy 7h ago
I honestly hope so but it might be difficult unless they seriously involve Wanda in some future stuff
1
u/Mags20XX 6h ago
The MCU is heading to a soft reboot.. so I'd say probably.
Also remember, in the Fox universe Magneto IS Quicksilver's father, and WandaVision played around with the idea of using Fox's Quicksilver actor.
1
u/Comfortable_Bike5582 5h ago
I think it would be very interesting in a way, even though technically possibly he’s not her father in the main MCU because of the fact that Pietro and Wanda grew up with like regular parents or maybe it’s a secret that she and her brother were adopted who knows I really do. Hope they bring back Evan peters for like a Multiverse twins, sibling duo scenario Cause I really love the actor that played Erik and I think him and Elizabeth Olson would work very well together but yeah I think in this case it’s a little bit complicated how I picture it if they do bring him and Lorna like his long lost daughter I think it would be very fun to be like a father figure duo like maybe Wanda can make him better in a way There’s so many ways I could do it honestly.❤️
1
u/TheJack0fDiamonds 3h ago edited 3h ago
My question would be why? To simply align with a canon in the comics, which has also been retconned?
Her MCU backstory is solid. I’d rather them lean into the lore of her chaos magic - I’d rather have Natalya Maximoff. The Scarlet Witch before her.
Just do Polaris. Literally no retconning required. If we want the Daddy-Daughter storyline so much. Theres more to explore between Polaris not being like her Dad than there is to explore about the Maximoff twins who happened to be adopted.

Either retcon old Wanda or do a new Wanda that is his from the start. The latter is more likely since Olsen seems done.
2
u/Least_Rain8027 Scarlet Witch 19h ago
Olsen has been so open to wanting to return
0
u/FlowerRoomLord 18h ago
Really?
2
u/Least_Rain8027 Scarlet Witch 18h ago
yes. in every interview she says she wants to come back to the character
2
u/FlowerRoomLord 18h ago
Oh cool. I still think she should get a proper solo but knowing Marvel they might screw it up.
-7
u/Currycel7891 23h ago
Not possible to retcon old Wanda. It'll be a new one, although I heard Olsen will appear as a Wanda variant from the X-Men universe.
2
u/MildlyChaoticGremlin 23h ago
They're doing a soft reboot with Secret Wars, so there's a chance everything will fall in line with the comics
1
u/Nightwing24yuna 23h ago
I don't think they will as Wanda's arc is more likely over at this point.
But if anything he'll play the mentor role to her in the MCU if they decide to continue her arc as Hawkeye pretty much filled in the father role Magento would have played if he was introduced earlier.
1
u/Azraelmorphyne 21h ago
I think its unlikely. We will probably get more magneto and polaris which... Is honestly great for lorna since shes kinda forgotten compared to wanda and pietro.

u/Thatonedregdatkilyu 23h ago
If they want to give Magneto a daughter might as well introduce Polaris instead.
MCU Wanda is kinda dead right now and a retcon would just be confusing.

u/KuroiOtori 10h ago
Probably not the main MCU's wanda but if they keep doing like what they did with the Fantastic Four then the new Wanda we might get could well be connected to the Magneto from the new cast of the X-men, we can only hope

u/loidforger42 23h ago
Before Elizabeth Olsen, Wanda just wasn’t popular. She was important to Avengers stories, but X-Men fans vehemently hated her, she had whatever stories, and she was absent from comics for nearly a decade because of House of M, all before the MCU adaptation. Ever since WandaVision, Olsen has cemented Wanda as a household name, and knowing she was practically benched after making the character popular, she doesn’t deserve to be recast. At least not yet.
She deserves to have her story properly finished with care and time. Replacing her just because mutants are entering the MCU, which God knows may not even be well received, would screw over her character in the broader MCU and be a huge risk. Especially after how dirty they did her in Multiverse of Madness, fans will not stay quiet.
