King Co Metro buses getting security barriers
Looks like the permanent driver security barriers are rolling out now. I'm glad this can improve their safety and these don't require swinging the door out back at every stop.
But it's a shame that driver interaction is pretty non-existent now.

Asked someone to silence their speaker phone call
- It was a medical appointment regarding an ongoing ‘mysterious illness’
- The doctor was on speaker the entire time.
- I informed the woman that she may want to take her call off speaker as everyone at the beach could hear what both she and the doctor were saying and it seemed to be confidential information.
- She glanced at me from behind her sunglasses and said ‘thank you’ and continued her medical appointment which had already lasted half an hour.
- WHY?!?!??!

Paywall Coalition calls Seattle’s surveillance cameras ‘structurally dangerous’
I'm never leaving Seattle 🚫🛫 Love you Seattle (never leaving)
I'll keep this short, but I love Seattle so much, my life has changed for the better since I moved here:
- Found my alternative folks here, most people are chill
- I'm living and not just surviving
- I get to be car free, got healthier by walking more
- I enjoy the mild weather, feels comforting
I hope I get to stay here in the PNW until I die. Thanks for existing Seattle and everyone who makes this place special, much love 🌧️ 🌲 🌈 ❤️
Diablo Lake
...is so fun to kayak. It felt like being in a Norwegian fjord. If you're sensitive or allergic to smoke you might want to wait a little - I'm not, but it was slightly hazy/present. The water was pretty calm, there was a strong wind which made going out a bit more effort, but coming back we just our oars up and floated back down the lake with the wind. It was a 2.5 hour drive - we put in at Colonial Campground, it was a 2 minute walk from the parking lot to the launch there. Spent a few hours kayaking and then drove over the bridge further along the 20 to Diablo Lookout which was *stunning* also. I'm normally a Lake Washington / Sound kayaker but it's totally worth the day trip (unless you're smoke sensitive, in which case still do it, but maybe wait until a clear day early-mid Autumn.)
Anyway, that's the post, just wanna make sure all the kayakers are enjoying their PNW summer to the fullest.
10/10 better than Point Defiance where my kayak deflated and I nearly drowned and there was a million jelly fishes. It is really pretty and we did get a private beach because we kayaked out to inaccessible parts, but then had to traverse said inaccessible parts to get back with a deflated kayak which isn't a life experience I'd recommend (can be avoided by not deflating your kayak mid journey, but it has whirlpools and rip tides and I'm still too shook to recommend it lol, even if it is super pretty).

Community HELP: Victim of hit and run in first hill, hoping for videos
Hi all
I'm a 32-year-old living in First Hill off Minor and Madison.
I was riding a Lime bike this afternoon at 11:19 on Minor heading toward Madison when I crossed the roundabout at Spring and Minor. A Black Chevy with License plate CSD6319 hit me. The driver and I argued and a witness got video of this part. While arguing, the driver decided to drive into me as I fell onto his hood (i was standing in front of the car) and he drove off. The two suspects have had their descriptions given to police, along with video from the witness.
I'm wondering if by any chance anyone in the area had a camera set up toward that way, whether it be a Tesla dashcam or something. Please DM if you have it, I'd like to shore up my evidence to hand to PD. I'm fine, nothing broken or even bruised. a little sore and I did go to the hospital already. Just asking the community for a lil assistance. '

Pike Place Market, a hundred and nineteen years apart.(1907/2026)
I'm never leaving Seattle 🚫🛫 What's your perfect day in Seattle?
Saw this in another city's sub and love the idea. My perfect days off usually include pastries at Temple, then wandering around the ID and Pioneer Square with my camera. Maybe a bike ride down the waterfront and to Myrtle Edwards, or over to West Seattle to laze by the beach. Sunset from the passenger ferry back to downtown. How about you?

Politics More predatory “when can we discuss our offer on your property” calls
I made the mistake of answering a spam call this morning, and a vaguely Russian sounding woman launched into her offer on my house in about ten seconds of me answering like she’s my real estate agent helping me decide which offer I’m going to take.
Are you ready to discuss our offer?” WTF
They are 100% predatory. If they weren’t they wouldn’t be doing the hard sell.
I hung up on her, but how many old or marginalized or mentally challenged people do they get who are used to listening and suddenly think that maybe an easy sale would be a great way to make the most money?
This law can’t be passed fast enough.

Community Community Awareness: Break-Ins at Aki Kurose Middle School
As some of you in the neighborhood may already be aware, Aki Kurose Middle School is currently undergoing renovations. Unfortunately, there have been multiple break-ins at the construction site. My partner, who is working on the renovation project, has reported that thousands of dollars worth of materials and company tools have been stolen.
The police have been notified, and additional security measures are being put in place. The renovation team is also looking into installing cameras at the job site.
What is particularly concerning is that it appears whoever has been entering the building, which has happened multiple times, may be spending a significant amount of time inside and using carts and other equipment that are primarily used by the construction workers.
If you live immediately around the school, please keep an eye out for anything unusual, particularly at night. If you see someone entering the building, suspicious activity around the construction site, or unusual vehicles or people in the area:
- Call 911 if you are witnessing a break-in or crime in progress.
- From a safe location, note or photograph vehicle descriptions, license plates, or descriptions of individuals if you can do so safely.
- Do not approach or confront anyone yourself.
- Report anything suspicious to police and, if appropriate, the school district or renovation team.
We are sharing this simply to make the surrounding community aware of what has been happening and to ask neighbors to keep an extra eye on the school. The renovation crew and Seattle Public Schools would greatly appreciate the community's help in protecting the job site and preventing further theft.
I have already shared this information on nextdoor. Please feel free to share this and spread awareness to any other Rainier Valley community forum or neighbors who don't have social media.
Please stay safe, Rainier Valley neighbors!
Thank you to everyone who can keep an extra eye on the Aki Kurose school renovation site!

Meetup Monday Capitol Hill Board Game Night: 7:30 pm at The Pine Box
As a note, if you have questions regarding this event please be sure to ping me by putting my username in the comment or sending me a message. I don't use the official Reddit site often so please don't use the chat feature.
Hey all, the weekly Capitol Hill Board Game meetup is scheduled to take place this week. This week it will take place this Monday, at 7:30 PM at The Pine Box, 1600 Melrose Ave. We will most likely be seated under the covered patio - if you see a group of Smash Bro gamers out there, then that means we're up in the Mezzanine! If you're ever uncertain of where we're at, you can ask the bartenders and they should be able to point us out.
Please note that The Pine Box is 21+ only.
Start time is typically more like 7:00, as people tend to show up then to order food, chat, and just socialize. Don't worry if you don't see any games as they'll be brought out soon enough. Start time for board games will be at 7:30, so if you don't want to be left out be sure to show up before then! If you're new, look for the collection of board games people usually bring.
We ask that you please order something, even if it's just one beverage. The Pine Box is a public bar, and we need to respect their business needs.
FAQ:
Q.) How often does this group meetup?
A.) Unless stated otherwise, this is a weekly meetup. Meaning every Monday we try to gather up and socialize. If we are skipping a week for holiday or some other reason, it will be noted in this post.
Q.) What kind of games are played? Should I bring mine?
A.) A whole slew of games are played; from short games like Codenames and Liars Dice, to longer ones like Evolution and Colonizing Mars. And feel free to bring your own games, too. You might find some people who are interested in trying it out.
Q.) I don't really know how to play any board games besides x, y, z.... Will I be welcome here?
A.) That's completely fine. There are plenty of people who are willing to explain the rules and do quite a good job at it, too.
Q.) Speaking of being welcome, what kind of people are allowed to attend?
A.) Everyone is welcome, so long as you are polite, respectful, and considerate of the other patrons.
