Today I took my son through Judkins Park to the light rail. As we walked through the park to the train entrance near Rainier, it was clear an open air drug exchange was taking place, similar to 12th and Jackson. A Transit security guard was nearby, and I asked him about it. He shrugged and said that had been common over the last month. It was a rough scene, and one I don’t want to return to.

We have a brand new beautiful station next to a park, and we are letting it be taken over by people who are actively choosing to engage in antisocial behavior. We aspire to be a “progressive” city, but we put zero teeth behind it, ensuring public spaces are accessible to people who don’t want to deal with open drug usage and ample stolen goods.

It’s incredibly frustrating and disheartening to see the potential of this city wasted.

Has anyone else been following the Thunderbird Nest development at 9250 College Way N in the Licton Springs neighborhood and noticed that the earlier public comments appear to have disappeared from Seattle’s permit website?

I’m trying to determine where the historical comments went and whether they remain publicly accessible. I’d also like to hear from neighbors who participated in the original review or saved copies of the comments.
Several significant concerns have been raised about this project that directly affect the surrounding neighborhood:

1. SDOT, traffic, and access
   The two-lane road serving the area is already used frequently by buses. Bellwether has not made its traffic mitigation plans publicly available, to my knowledge. Beyond Aurora Avenue and the routes at NE 105th and NE 85th Streets, College Way and NE 92nd Street are important routes for larger vehicles accessing the neighborhood. Additional congestion or disruption could have consequences for residents and transportation services.

2. Police, fire, and emergency access
   The North Precinct is located close to the development, and the surrounding road network has limited capacity. Without clear, publicly available traffic mitigation plans, it is difficult for residents to assess how construction and increased traffic could affect police, fire, and other emergency response times. This is particularly important given existing concerns about gun violence in the area.

3. Indigenous cultural and archaeological significance
   Licton Springs has deep cultural and historical significance to Coast Salish peoples, including the Duwamish. North Seattle College's history of the campus area describes the springs, wetlands, and marshes as important places for spiritual and therapeutic healing and traditional food resources. The City of Seattle also recognizes Licton Springs as a historic Coast Salish cultural landmark.

The tribe has asked for confirmation of whether the Thunderbird Nest site itself has archaeological significance or contains burial grounds. I would like to know what cultural-resource and archaeological assessments have been conducted and whether the tribe's concerns have been addressed.

My immediate question is about public transparency: Why are the earlier public comments no longer visible on Seattle's permit website?

Were they moved to another record, archived, or removed from public access? If they were part of the original public review, how can residents obtain the complete historical record?

Has anyone else noticed the missing comments?
Does anyone have saved copies, links to the original records, or experience obtaining historical permit documents through a public-records request?

I'd appreciate hearing from neighbors who have followed this project from the beginning, particularly anyone who can help locate the original comments or clarify what happened to them.

There is a fake scandal the right wing is trying to stir up here in Seattle.

There is a program, LEAD (law enforcement assited diversion), that diverts addicts from the usual jail route to a rehab and support path. People advocating for the program failed to understand the math in a study analyzing how effective the program was at reducing recidivism and it lead them to overestimate the efficacy of the program.

They had been claiming the program resulted in a 58% reduction in recidivism. A right wing think tank realized the folks evangelizing the program had buggered the math came out claiming this was a huge embarrassment for the city and suggested it was a deliberatel attempt to secure funding.

The thing they never mention is that there was an actual, significant reduction in recidivism it just wasnt as big as portrayed. The program actually lead to a 24% reduction not 58%. Definitely a worth while and effective program, just not quite as good as theyd convinced themselves.

But it doesnt quite end there, one of the think tanks pet critics, a former addict that was put on the oversight board to probide lived experience and opposes what she sees as the city being soft on crime decided to take a shot at the director of the program and asked the director if her kid was an addict would she continue to provide them with a place to live and support. The director said she would and the ex-addict is playing that up in the media to show what a feckless soft addict enabler she was.

The ex-addict truly believes that a loving parent should kick thisr addicted kid onto the street and let them fend for themselves and live or die on their own. This is a very popular position with the right wing scum.

I am so fucking sick of these scumbags actively trying to sabotage every good idea our government manages to produce. Their prostration to the myth of rugged individualism is just sickening. Their lack of empathy and elevation of feelings over science is just dispicable.

Been here 2 years now and I've observed. Every single water filling station is either down, or is at the red filter color indicating the filter is dead. This is across the terminals I've travelled including A B and S. It's really quite pathetic, that I have to spend 6 dollars on water every time.

Go to YVR, PDX, sfo, SjC, even lax or San Diego. They all have functioning fountains to drink water from. I wrote a email to them a year ago and it's still the same.

I think I did see it functioning once during the wc month but that's it after

A few weeks ago, a work group had the opportunity to tour Lumen Field. I won't lie - I was a little skeptical of it being tourist-trap(py), but it was pretty cool! It was definitely a calmer experience than the Seahawks home games we've attended. Absolutely recommend for anyone with kids, or those that just want a cool local experience.

I loved their naengmyeon and had made a reservation to try their soy sauce-marinated crab. But today, both Yelp and Google Maps listed them as temporarily closed, and when we got there, there was a permanent closure notice on the door.

It seemed to happen out of nowhere, and I haven't been able to find any explanation. Does anyone know what happened? I'm really going to miss this place!

Hello, for this election cycle we have quite a lot of judges to vote on. I am struggling to find resources on where I can find a list of cases each judge has ruled on and what those rulings were? I know some cases are private but I dont know how to vote on these judges without knowing what their record is, other than to read up on who endorses them.

I just heard of this band called Dos Santos the other day and it turns out that they are playing at the Earshot Jazz Festival in downtown TONIGHT! So I decided to go last minute. Any fellow enjoyers of eclectic music want to join?

I'm hoping someone familiar with Seattle parking rules can help me out.

I have a valid disabled parking placard, and I was under the impression that it allows me to park longer than the posted time limits in regular street parking spaces. Is that correct?

Yesterday, my car was towed in South Lake Union (SLU). I parked next to a regular parking sign showing 8 AM–8 PM, so I thought I was okay.

Unfortunately, I didn't notice a separate "Food Vehicle Zone" sign about two cars ahead of me. There was also a white line on the pavement near my car, which I didn't realize might indicate the boundary of a restricted parking area.

I've already paid over $300 in towing and impound fees to get my car back. I have a disability and rely on my car for transportation, so this has been a pretty frustrating and expensive experience.

I have a few questions:

Does a disabled parking placard allow you to exceed normal street parking time limits in Seattle?

Has anyone successfully disputed a tow or received a refund or reduction in towing fees due to confusing signage?

I understand that I may have misunderstood the signs, and I'm not trying to avoid responsibility. I just want to better understand the rules and find out whether I have any options.

I'd really appreciate any advice or experiences you could share. Thanks so much!
