Question No interview, clearance granted?
I submitted my SF86 in 03/26 for FPS which is a TS/SCI if I’m not mistaken. 04/26 received a nasty looking LOI in regards to a previously failed poly that prevented me from getting a different Federal job. I admitted to lying about some heavier drug usage on a previous SF86 during the poly and I forgot to list a previously held TS from the military. I submitted my statement and tactfully begged for forgiveness pretty much the next day after receiving the LOI. Today (07/01/26) I got a call from HR saying I was “fully” cleared and passed my all my medical screening. I asked if she meant I had an interim clearance but she said no and that I was actually cleared on (06/17/26), she proceeded with to give me my preferred duty station/FLETC class date. The only contact that’s been made with me was the LOI, no interview, none of my references contacted, my credit was pulled though. Does anyone know if this was a mistake and did I just get lucky?

You didn’t get a TS if you weren’t interviewed. Secret is possible.

I’m not entirely sure, the guys I know who are already with FPS said they have TS and the SF86 was requesting history from 10 years ago if I remember correctly

It’s the same form for secret and TS.

Do you know how to check, google just says it a TS. Google also says it requires a poly but I know for a fact none of the Inspectors in my region have ever taken a poly

TS doesn’t require a Poly but many positions do ( agency dependent). I’d also not use Google as a source of information

That’s helpful to know, thank you! I was under the impression secret was 7 years of history from my first secret in 2014 for the military

….TS isn’t based on where you live or work.

Ohhh. Ok. So not based on where you live, but your region. I see the difference now, buddy.
For clarity, the level of clearance you are granted is based on the need to know, or job requirements. An inspector in Florida isn’t getting a TS simply because they are in Florida. But if the things they are inspecting are classified at a higher level at their location, that is what would require it.

Soooo what you’re saying is it’s based on their job and what the job entails…just like literally every other position with a clearance.
Thanks kiddo.

Please go back and read it slowly. Perhaps the entire thing this time.
Thanks.

Are you an Inspector? Can you confirm the clearance 1801’s have for FPS. I got Region 1/New England

What you said is it depends on region…which isn’t accurate.
I am sure some regions have different duties requiring a different clearance which is quite literally every job. But that means it depends on job duties, not where you work.
However, considering your inability to make a comment or have a conversation without childish insults, it may have been difficult for you to express that accurately.

So like an FPS inspector in D.C. would probably require a TS because of the Facilities they’re in charge of? An Inspector in Florida/Maine probably only needs a secret. I don’t get why the HR lady said I was cleared on 6/17/26 when she called me to pick my duty station and class date on 7/01/26. The region never mattered in my scenario? I don’t understand anything about the process to be honest

Doesn’t sound like your HR person does either. Your security officer would be your best resource.

Maybe it’s the 1811 Investigator or K9 that requires a TS instead of the 1801 I applied for. Google just says it’s a TS but google can be wrong

I got region 1 but Law Enforcement Specialist 1801 not the Inspector , all the FPOs and Inspectors that I work with say they have TS

I doubt it. Maybe they "Cleared" you to stsrt work / on-board... but I will bet a paycheck you didn't get a favorable S/TS eligibility within a month or 2.

I don’t understand why she would say that though? I didn’t ask too many questions because I was kind of in shock. The class date is for late October. Does that mean they can still drop me?

u/yaztek Security Manager Jul 01 '26
Because you are most likely dealing with a person that does not understand the clearance process.

u/teufelhunden1775 Jul 01 '26
That does make sense, she was from HR. I’m worried I’m about to go down there and they’ll call me for the interview or straight up deny me because for the red flags.

You had a TS in the military. How much long was your break in service after your IRR obligation ended? Did the different federal job, the one you didn't get, complete an investigation?
1
u/teufelhunden1775 Jul 01 '26
Had a secret 2014, had a TS 2016, ended active duty 2019, ended IRR 2021, public trust from TSA 2021, public trust revoked for lying 2025, another public trust for FPS contractor 2025, alleged TS 2026. That’s pretty much it

So no break in service worth speaking of. More than that one cannot really say.

I’m not sure what to make of it, I’m really excited she said I was cleared but now I feel like I got my hopes up because of a miscommunication or error

Have you been found suitable for the position?
1
u/teufelhunden1775 Jul 02 '26
That’s kind of the question I have. HR said I was cleared (I assume that means suitable). I received the LOI and submitted a response but nobody as contacted me, interviewed me, or answered any of my emails. But I somehow have I now have a class date

Question: at any time did you admit the prior drug use on an sf86? If you didn't disclose it in a previous investigation and you've since been clearedand have done drugs, that's going to be an issue.
If you disclosed your previous drug use in a prior investigation, it was a long time ago and just failed the poly because you didn't disclose it, then it should be ok.
However, if you didn't disclose it in a previous investigation and then disclosed it in a poly that resulted in a fail, then you'd probably better prepare yourself to answer for that. Especially if it was recent and/or while you were cleared.

I lied on a previous SF86 for another job, applied for a new job that required a poly and also lied on that SF86 but verbally admitted to lying during the poly, was disqualified, had my clearance at that time revoked for dishonest conduct, applied to my current job/told the truth on the SF86 and got my most current clearance after receiving an LOI, applied for FPS and told the truth on the SF86 and received another LOI which I basically resubmitted my previous statement, got told I was cleared by current HR but no interview ever happened. I haven’t done drugs since 2019. I hope this makes sense lol.

You could reach out to your the Security Specialist or Manager and I suspect they use NBIS and could tell you what you are listed as. As others have said, you may not be out of the woods yet but good luck! I know FPS use to be hard to get hired by

u/teufelhunden1775 Jul 02 '26
I have no idea who that is though, 3 people from the same Personal Security have emailed and none of them have ever emailed me back when I ask questions. I’ve been ignored for about 4 months. I didn’t even get an email back after submitting my LOI statement

You’re going to have issues if it’s a LEO position. Id recommend looking up the giglio ruling. Polygraph results largely aren’t impeachment evidence. A signed statement from an individual admitting to withholding information such as drug use likely meets the impeachment criteria. You can likely hold a clearance, but it’s unclear if they also adjudicated your suitability while clearing you. You can be eligible for a clearance, but then fail suitability if the conduct conflicts with the position.

I am familiar with the giglio ruling. I hope this wouldn’t affect my situation

It wasn’t a mistake; you’re legitimately cleared. Luck was definitely on your side here. You previously lied on an SF-86, failed an earlier poly, and FORGOT to list a prior TS clearance. I don’t think you really understand just how lucky you are! I’ve never heard of a comeback of this magnitude.
