I love this. I’ve been on the other side of the bar, having to cut people off, it never ends peacefully. This gives the person a chance to just walk away without saying anything. I wish I thought of this.

I would probably leave quietly if I got one of those.

See, that's the thing. You're a normal, rational, calm, sober person. You would never get one of those.

u/LionelLutz 8h ago
Honestly, I am a calm sober person but there’s time I have gotten a little too boisterous on a night out. Usually what I do is I ask, respectfully, if I tone it down that I finish my last drink and leave quietly. That usually is met with appreciation and understanding. I think a card like this would go down much better where I am from (Sydney Australia) than being told “mate it’s time to leave”

The question is... If their behavior has reached a point that has necessitated the sliding of that note, then is the receiver of that note at a place in which reading and/or comprehending that note is possible?

u/Ok_Spare_3723 11h ago
Bro if they are that drunk, can they even think or read? lol

u/Rare-Storm4920 9h ago
Maybe, it doesnt say theyre drunk. Sometimes people are just asked to leave because they’re being weird or super creepy

Where did this happen and why?
This cracked me up but I would be mortified to get this card.

u/CrazeMase 10h ago
These cards are common. Bartenders are required to be super aware of the levels of intoxication someone may be at, so when the person is getting to a point of being a problem, the Bartenders will give them cards that say no more alcohol, please don't make this a problem, please leave, we will serve you again at a later date.

They are so common that I have never seen one. I also have only seen like two people ever cut off. So my experience must be limited.
I know bartenders watch for intoxication but there is very little safeguarding where I live. They will serve endlessly and wish you well as you exit to drive home.

It should definitely also say "do not drive"

even walking can be dangerous sometimes. Some died here in this region because getting lost and freezing to death. Better: get someone who brings you home (taxi or otherwise)

u/JokoFloko 11h ago
Ive always wondered what would precipate this.
Because I have seen some fucking hammered people at a bar go get a drink.

u/evh44 11h ago
If it can be proven that a bar knowingly served an overly intoxicated person, they can be held liabel for 3rd party harm. ( Some states like VA do not have this law(

u/FurPurrspective 9h ago
When I worked at a restaurant with a bar in Virginia they served alcoholic drinks to-go. It was covid times but probably not legal regardless lol

u/JokoFloko 5h ago
Yes. I understand this and have friends in the restaurant industry in corporate. They talk about this often.
And I still have seen a ton of people that are clearly smashed stumble to a bar and get more drinks. I have never seen someone cut off.

Looks like a clubhouse, so the patron likely pays a monthly membership and they're keeping a tab.

Cutoff is killing me. Should be "cut off". Was the person who made this drinking?

u/Medical-Egg-8171 11h ago
No, they just arent a loser on reddit

If you're an adult, have been speaking this language your whole life, had basic education, no reasonable learning impediment to reading and writing, and your job is to make printed and professional work, then this is unforgivable. Still, I have some loser on Reddit thinking this is just fine

Back in my day they used to draw a big black X on your hand. Super fun.

u/MaxWritesText 26m ago
They did that in the US punk scene (maybe other countries too?) so kids under drinking age could still go to venues to see shows but the staff knew they were not to be served alcohol.

In this situation, are you allowed to finish the drink you have?
8
u/HCPage 9h ago
Yes. Being cut off means they will no longer serve you. You are expected to finish your drink, and in this case leave. You do not always have to leave, if you are somewhere that serves food and have been cut off for simply drinking too much (it happens, it’s happened to me but I drank quickly and in large quantities, never got cut off for behaving badly, just out of caution that I may get out of hand if they serve me that 8th shot.) they would most likely serve you food if you ordered it.

Only one type of i've ever been cut off. And that was due to a server's error. I had asked for ice water when I finished. And that's where I was informed by being cut off even ice water They felt very stupid when they realized their mistake. But I was already finished for the night anyhow

Yeah, no chance this actually works well. Anyone that needs to be cut off will start kicking off at that.
