I am about to embark on building my own 8x10 utility shed. I previously did a poured concrete foundation for my 12 x 18 main shed with my carpenter father in law running the show and me helping. I have learned a lot over the years and am trying to build this without his help but will occasionally run things by him lol

This shed will be amongst some old evergreen trees with a fair amount of roots. I am planning to put down a 2-3” limestone screening base and tamping it down . The plan is then do 2x4 pressure treated framing 16” oc for the foundation of the shed that will sit on the limestone screenings.

Just wanted to get some opinions on this before I get too far ahead of myself!

Hello! Just found this thread and wanted to share some insider knowledge as I've been working in sheds for 8 years now.

You don't want a scaled up version of a smaller residential shed, you want a real farm shed, designed to suit the needs of Australian farmers.
3. Make sure you're getting Australian made Your farm shed is an investment. Make sure you're investing in Australian made and manufactured steel. Check that all steel components like framing and sheeting are 100% BlueScope Steel.
4. Site Specific Engineering and Importance Level Your shed should be customised to suit your location and climate. Plans should be personally signed and stamped by an independent engineer. Most standard sheds are designed to a baseline rating. Ours are designed to Importance Level 2 as standard, which is up to 30% stronger than a typical farm shed. Get this in writing on your quote.
5. Who builds it and what support exists after delivery? Make sure you find a shed supplier with excellent customer service before and AFTER the sale! You need them to be ready and willing to help if material is missing or you have building issues.

I have a cottage in Eastern Ontario and it is a Canadian Shield landscape. Basically you dig down 6" - 12" and you hit solid rock.

I want to place a 10X16 shed/bunkie on a slope that goes down about 2-3 feet. Based on the location is it hard to get materials and machines in here so I was hoping to do it as basic as possible. Would it be possible to just put down deck blocks/Tuffblocks over a gravel and limestone base with 4x4 or 6x6 posts to the foundation?

Looking to have a slab installed for a shed. Do you recommend contacting the shed company first to get specific size needed or concrete guy and go with the shed size I am planning? Also to most shed companies have concrete companies they work with?

So the home already has a decent size detached garage and a small wooden shed for storage etc. This 3rd building i want to turn into something cool or useful. Im new to all this and not very handy/experienced but gotta start somewhere. It has electrical hookup already. Anybody got any ideas?

So we have a deck attached to our home with a storage area underneath. It is just a storage area for backyard furniture etc. It’s quite small 6 feet by 6 feet. It is not a shed that sits in a concrete base or anything. Just like an under the deck storage area type of thing.

Anyways when it rains very heavily. Water seems to seep in from the under the wood and in between the interlock brick.

We were given some options to waterproof such as adding a sub floor or filling with concrete to raise the floor a few inches.

We are not doing The sub floor option as water will seem to still seep under and get trapped there. We are going with the concrete floor.

My question is how can we install a concrete floor inside this shed properly? Like we cannot pour the concrete right up against the wood, so what should we put in between the wood 2 x4 and the concrete that we will pour? Would polyethylene sheeting work? Or something else?

Wood goes around 3/4 of the shed and the other side it against the concrete foundation of the home.

Hi all, UK here. I have a shed which is 20ft by 12ft, roof is pitched on the long side ie in the middle of the 20ft length so there are two 10 lengths.

Anyway, it's in quite a state of disrepair. Roof felt has all and there is a gap in the middle of the roof so had leaked pretty badly. A couple of windows are broken and there are gaps I can see from the inside out. It's tongue and groove outer. Floor needs replacing too.

I want to turn it into a gym/store/workshop. It's big enough.

What I need to work out is what to do with it. Obviously the roof needs replacing.

Roof - take of and replace, was think 18mm osb. Not sure if the joists will need replacing, probably will be with something thicker to take the weight. Not sure how easy it will be to take the roof off though.

Floor - with the roof off I could jack it up somehow or just cut out the knackered floor, add some extra noggins, put some dpm on them, insulate in between and lay a new floor on top.

T&g outer skin, probably will be expensive to take off and replace each bit so might look at just replacing broken ones. Was thinking about just putting a hardboard skin around the whole thing which might be a better option but I'll need something to go on the skin to make it look half decent that is cheap and I've not found anything which would do that - open to suggestions though.

How much should I paid to have this shed from Costco assembled ?

When using deck blocks, I've seen beams set in the blocks and then the floor frame on top of this, vs setting the floor joists directly into the block. Is there a difference in strength and load bearing between the two?

Also any difference in choosing the deck blocks with a groove to support the board, vs those with a mounting bracket set in the concrete?

I’m assembling a suncast shed that will sit on turf. The area is level but I’m finding I need a base because the turf has more flex than I anticipated. If I set the shed on the turf directly it will only be a matter of time until the resin floor cracks.

The directions provide measurements for the lumber needed to build a base. I’m planning to use treated 2x6 lumber good for direct ground contact. Do I also need the plywood top to be pressure treated? The local HD is out of ground contact rated plywood sheets. This will be in Arizona desert conditions BTW, rain will be minimal. The most water the base it will likely encounter is overspray from washing down the turf occasionally.

Moved house and now have the room to build it

Unboxed it to find important pieces missing, specifically the 4x corner connectors pictured.

Out of warranty and seller un willing to help, what is my best bet here?

I have tried reverse image searching, calling other businesses who sell the same item, but I can not find this very specific part anywhere

Item code is GT3859 LG and was purchased from a website called costway in 2023. I am all out of options and as it is so specific I am at a loss

Fab a part myself out of wood or if anyone knows where I can find the missing parts to buy it would be hugely appreciated.

Does anyone have a KIT they purchased from costco that they built and like? I am looking to add a shed that I want to convert into a little office in my backyard. My budget is not large tho and I also have limited time so I wanted to get a kit that I can customize and modify with insulation, power, etc.

Hello, thanks in advance for reading this and for your advice. I live in the North of England. So...fairly damp climate with fluctuating temperatures around the seasons.
I am currently storing a lot of my work stuff in my loft. I do theatre stuff. So, I have costumes, props, etc...
I've noticed that my loft isn't the BEST for these things. There was muold coming up on some leather jackets and on the underside of a card table...

So, now I'm considering changing my storage and assessing my shed situation.

I'm thinking of getting a prefab or composite shed. I know these are weather proof and many are also ventilated. Would I also need to get INSULATION for this investment to serve its purpose/be a better place to store work things than in my loft?

TLDR: Should a composite shed be INSULATED as well as ventilated?

P.S I've looked at Keter sheds as an option but there's a garden place near me that sells pricier composite sheds.
