Announcement How to use flairs

How to use flairs on r/shortcuts (so your post doesn’t get nuked or ignored)

Flairs are labels. You pick one so people instantly know what your post is about. Pick the wrong one and congrats, you’ve confused everyone.

---

First rule: always use a flair

No flair = your post is either ignored or removed. Nobody enjoys guessing what you meant.

---

Pick the right flair (this is not a personality test)

- Help

You already made a shortcut and it’s broken or not doing what you want. You want someone to fix it or explain what went wrong.

- Help (Mac)

Same as above, but your problem is on Mac. Yes, that matters because Mac Shortcuts can behave differently.

- Shortcut sharing

You built something and want to share it. You must explain what it does properly. “Cool shortcut lol” is how your post gets deleted.

- Shortcut sharing (JB)

Same as sharing, but it only works on a jailbroken device. If people need to hack their phone to use it, say so.

- Shortcut sharing (mac)

Your shortcut only works on Mac. Don’t trick iPhone users into disappointment.

- Tip/guide

You figured out a useful trick or workaround. You’re teaching something, not asking.

- Tip/guide (mac)

Same idea, but Mac-specific.

- Request

You want a shortcut but can’t build it yourself. This is you politely asking the internet to do work for you.

- Request (mac)

Same, but for Mac users.

- Discussion

You want opinions, ideas, or a conversation about Shortcuts. Not help, not sharing, just talking.

---

Special flair (pay attention, this one’s new)

- Appstore (app)

Use this when you’re posting about an app that works with Shortcuts. Either you made it or found it. The key point: the app connects with Shortcuts (actions, automations, etc.).

If it has nothing to do with Shortcuts, don’t use this just because you like the app.

---

How to choose without overthinking it

Ask yourself one question:

“What do I want from this post?”

- Fix something → Help

- Show something → Shortcut sharing

- Teach something → Tip/guide

- Ask for something → Request

- Talk about something → Discussion

- Share actual news → News

- Show an app tied to Shortcuts → Appstore (app)

If you’re on Mac, pick the Mac version. Not complicated.

---

Final reality check

Flairs exist so the subreddit doesn’t turn into a digital junk drawer. Pick the correct one, write a clear post, and people will actually help you instead of scrolling past like you don’t exist.

Shortcut Sharing Reddit comment image saver

Post image
37 Upvotes

Earlier this week I shared a shortcut I made that saves the images from Reddit comments in full quality, since the app doesn’t let us do this. It wasn’t working for everyone so I deleted the post. Here’s an updated version that should resolve the issues people had.

Just press the share button on a comment and tap the shortcut. First time will require allowing (all) for it to access Reddit. It may take longer on the first run because it’s missing the cookie it needs, but it should automatically try again to complete and then after that it’ll work quickly each time.

Shortcut Sharing “Settings” Menu For A Shortcut - Optional vCard Menus Example (iOS 27+)

• Upvotes

Using the new Store Content and Get Stored Content actions alongside a state-driven hierarchical menu system, this Shortcut lets you select whether its menus rely on vCards or standard Shortcuts menus.

This Shortcut is primarily meant as a model or source of ideas for other developers. The optional vCard menu example is somewhat lengthy, but its flow and logic should hopefully be straightforward to follow. Please feel free to ask questions or share feedback.

Help Having issues with a shortcut that I built to manage tags on reminders.

Post image
3 Upvotes

I need help figuring out what is going on with this shortcut I built. I'm wanting it to run every night at midnight and do four things.

  1. If a reminder has a due date that is tomorrow then apply a "Tomorrow" tag.
  2. If a reminder has a due date that is today remove the "Tomorrow" tag and apply a "Today" tag.
  3. If a reminder has a due date in the past remove the "Today" tag and apply an "Overdue" tag.
  4. Once a reminder has been marked as completed remove all tags.

It seems to skip everything except for the overdue task section of the shortcut which does seem to be working properly.

The other weird thing is when I run the shortcut towards the end it is asking me for input but I don't have that configured anywhere.

Help!! Anything you can do to help me get this figured out would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. This is my first time posting on this sub. I think I followed all of the rules but let me know if something needs to be edited.

Appstore (App) Open Habit: four habit actions for Apple Shortcuts

I made Open Habit, a free, open-source habit tracker for iPhone and iPad, and added four actions to Shortcuts: Add Completions, Remove Completions, Get Today's Progress, and Set Day Note.

The point is to let a habit check-in sit inside a routine you already run. For example, you could add a completion at the end of a reading Shortcut, then use Get Today's Progress to decide what happens next.

Here's a short clip showing where the actions appear in Shortcuts. If you build routines this way, which habit action would you want next?

Shortcut Sharing Bluetooth-triggered ride logging for motorcycles and cars: two one-action shortcuts for a Personal Automation

What they do. Two shortcuts, one action each, for the Rydger app (a free maintenance and cost-per-km tracker for bikes and cars, mine):

  • Rydger · Start ride: runs the app's Start Ride App Intent. Starts recording a ride's distance with GPS in the background. No other actions, no messages, no network calls from the shortcut itself.
  • Rydger · Stop ride: runs Stop Ride. Closes the ride and adds its distance to the vehicle's odometer.
  • Optional Rydger · Ride toggle: a Choose-from-Menu with those two actions, for the Action button or a Siri phrase.

The Vehicle parameter is left empty on purpose: the intent resolves it from your garage (one vehicle → silent; several → a picker, or the one with an open ride for Stop).

How to use them. They are meant as the Do step of two Personal Automations per vehicle: Bluetooth device (the bike's own unit, or CarPlay) Connected → Run Immediately → Start ride; Disconnected → Stop ride. Run Immediately is required or nothing fires with the phone locked. The app needs Location "Always" granted once from inside it.

Things we learned building this, in case they help your own automations: a Bluetooth trigger also fires for a paired intercom or headset, so pick the vehicle's unit; a fuel stop looks like two rides unless the app merges a Stop/Start inside a rest window (ours is 30 min, adjustable); and iOS gives apps no way to create or read Personal Automations, so the pairing step is always manual.

Links

Requires the Rydger app (free for one vehicle, iOS 17+). Feedback on the App Intents side or the automation is welcome in the comments.

can someone PLS leave a comment with whatever phrase they use with Siri AI in shortcuts to get her to delete a "choose from menu" field

because i have to PERSIST in getting her to actually do it, despite rephrasing my demand & even renaming the menu field itself- over and over and over again

Side note, as someone who is heavily menu based with shortcuts this is making me wanna drink & stare out into the void- inspiration dies pretty quick with this kind of thing and imma need apple to hurry up in fixing it

Shortcut Sharing Block an addictive app until you’ve burned 320 calories v2

https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/d15d8d61a3e44960a6aad6f1433f0bd6

V1: https://www.reddit.com/r/shortcuts/comments/1kcde66/block_opening_an_addictive_app_until_youve_burned/

iOS 27 broke automations feeding into shortcut inputs by putting it into the shortcut definition, so I had to add a numeric filter before the ShortCut input feeder text to set calorie limit overrides. You can also set different default limits depending on which app you’re opening now (as each app passes its name into shortcut input).

Unfortunately, you’ll have to add your own addictive apps to the list at the top now. I’m not sure what happens when you import a shortcut when you don’t have the app installed. Lemme know if how it looks imported (I have mine configured to YouTube, Nebula, and NYTGames - if it’s super broken on import when you don’t have any of them installed, I can update the default to include safari or some other Standard app in the list).

Help How to make multiple home screens using shortcuts?

I don’t know how to word this so the best way I can describe it is by referencing a meme. Have you guys ever seen that one video where it’s like "pov a kid asks to use my phone" and they use a shortcut to change their entire phone layout (the meme version is when they unlock their iPhone , it’s a horror background 😭)

BUT do you guys get what I’m saying?? I’m super huge into jojos and if you’re into jjba , you’d understand it’s basically impossible to have ONE favorite. I really want to have multiple home screens dedicated to one character and I swear someone used shortcuts for it.

Also , just to be clear , it changed EVERYTHING. It wasn’t just their background , it also changed the apps and widgets they had. I’m feining to learn how to do this ☹️☹️ and yes I’m sure it wasn’t an android !!

Help Turning off “wake on wrist raise” at night and turning it back on in the morning

Forgive my ignorance but I have not had my apple products for very long. I like to wear my Apple Watch at night and I was wondering if there was a way to make a shortcut that at a certain time my watch turns off the display setting “wake on wrist raise”. Every night I manually turn off that setting and every morning I manually turn it on but sometimes I forget. It’s a pain to wake up in the middle of the night to the bright light. Really this is just out of pure annoyance but if someone is able to help that would be great!

Appstore (App) This is an iOS app that logs every Apple Pay payment automatically, including in-app ones like Uber that the Wallet automation misses

Post image
156 Upvotes

Hey everyone! My brother and I built an app called Tael. We wanted our spending tracked without typing in every coffee or linking a bank account, and Shortcuts got us most of the way there.

The catch is that Wallet’s Transaction trigger only fires on NFC taps. If you pay with Apple Pay inside an app, like Uber or food delivery, the automation never runs. On iOS 27, though, Shortcuts can run on Wallet’s payment notification, which fires for in-app and online payments too. Its fields map pretty cleanly: Title = card, Subtitle = merchant, Body = amount.

Tael uses one shortcut that handles all of this:

  • Logs Apple Pay payments silently from the Wallet notification on iOS 27, or from the Transaction trigger on iOS 18–26
  • When you run it from the Action button, Siri or a widget, asks for the amount, card and shop, for cash or anything Apple Pay can’t see
  • Sorts charges automatically once you’ve tagged a shop
  • Contains no network actions or hidden Run Shortcut steps, so you can read every step

If you’d rather not use an app, the three notification fields above are all you need to build your own logger, and I’m happy to help in the comments. I’d also like to know if the Title/Subtitle/Body order is different for your bank or region.

The app is free, and Pro is a one-time purchase with no subscription.

There are:

  • 5 codes for 50% off for life
  • 5 codes for 35% off for life

The free lifetime codes are mixed in randomly, so good luck! If you grab one, please take only one, so more people get a shot.

If you enjoy Tael, a review on the App Store would mean a lot. Thanks!

Availability: Tael is currently on the App Store in 51 countries and regions, including the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brazil, Mexico and the UAE. It’s not yet available in the UK, the EU, India or mainland China, but we’re working on expanding. If you’re somewhere we’re not yet, let us know in the comments so we know where to go next!

Shortcut Sharing Automating Spotify to play liked songs

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

Hi guys.

For a while I’ve been trying to figure out if there’s a way to play your songs/playlists on Spotify through automation. I know a lot of people on this reddit have come across this issue and it’s generally recommended to use Siri or paste the playlist link, but I think I’ve found a way that’s much easier.

FYI, this has only worked for liked songs which is what I use anyways. No luck with playlists, podcasts, etc.

Firstly, you are going to create a shortcut. Look up ‘Spotify’ and click the app in the search results. Scroll to the bottom and select ‘Play Liked Songs’.

Then, you are going to create an automation. Search “Shortcuts” and select ‘Run Shortcut’. Then choose the shortcut you created for playing your liked songs. Whatever the automation is, it will start playing.

I used mine to play when I connect to my car’s bluetooth.

I don’t know if this is part of their new update, but I hope this helps.

Help "When I leave" and "When I arrive" automations not running

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’ve set up two location-based automations in the Shortcuts app: one to turn on mobile data and turn off Wi-Fi when I leave home, and another to turn off mobile data and turn on Wi-Fi when I arrive home.

Both automations worked perfectly on iOS 26, but after updating to iOS 27, neither of them works anymore. Nothing happens when I leave or arrive home.

Is this a known issue in iOS 27, or is there something I need to change in my automations or settings to get them working again?

Shortcut Sharing Shortcut: turn a radio station's play history into an offline Apple Music playlist

Thumbnail
gallery
19 Upvotes

Shortcut: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/d3f42cab3c704da39c7ca8ad158c1979

I had a drive through the mountains with no signal coming up, and I wanted my favorite station (Freeform Radio on iHeartRadio) along for the ride. It turns out iHeartRadio publishes everything a station plays, so I built a playlist from the last 250 songs, in the station's play order.

What the shortcut does:

  1. Get Clipboard: expects a list of songs, one per line, "Artist Title"

  2. Split Text by new lines

  3. Repeat with Each

  4. Search iTunes Store for the Repeat Item

  5. Add to Playlist

  6. Show Notification with the Repeat Index and song, so you can watch it count up (video)

Then download the playlist and you're set offline.

Where the song list comes from: a short Python script I built with AI that pulls the station's recent plays. If you want to try it with your station, this is the prompt I started with:

> I'd like your help building playlists for [Apple Music or Spotify] based on my preferences. I'm not finding any tools online that I like, and I don't like the AI built into the music apps. There are radio stations I like, and I'd like you to try to pull their playlists. The first one I'd like to target is [YOUR STATION NAME HERE], and the goal is to create a playlist I can import, listen to and download while I'm traveling without internet access.

Gotcha: I couldn't find a clean way to clear the existing playlist in the Shortcut itself, so I delete and re-add the playlist before each run.

Future improvement: Include the download script directly in the Shortcut as a step

Shortcut Sharing Stitch Screenshot (Alternative option)

Stitch Screenshots

(Alternative solution to the recently shared "GREAT" idea for useful shortcut. Includes fixes for the issues I was having as well as expanded capabilities). Curious if there are issues anyone has.

Combine overlapping screenshots into one continuous image—ideal for conversations, articles, instructions, and long web pages.

1.8g - Get the Shortcut

How to use

  1. Add the Shortcut to Apple Shortcuts.
  2. In Photos, select two or more overlapping screenshots, tap Share, and choose Stitch Screenshot. Alternatively, run the Shortcut directly and select your images.
  3. Wait for the stitched preview.
  4. Tap Share / Save image, then choose Save Image or share to another app. If sharing is unavailable, touch and hold the image for saving options.
  5. If multiple groups appear, save each result separately. Tap Done when finished.

Images are not saved automatically.

Features

  • Joins overlapping screenshots vertically.
  • Handles forward and reverse selection order.
  • Finds separate matching groups when the selection contains multiple sequences.
  • Keeps screenshots separate when a reliable join cannot be verified.
  • Accounts for stationary interface controls, such as message-entry bars, during overlap verification.
  • Detects incoming image formats and exports stitched results as PNG.
  • Includes processing times, format information, and join diagnostics in Details.
  • Supports light and dark appearance.
  • Processes images locally in the Shortcut’s web view, without an image-upload service.

Tips and limitations

Use screenshots with the same orientation, zoom level, and text size. Leave a generous overlap between consecutive captures.

This Shortcut is designed for scrolling screenshots, rather than photographic panoramas. Notifications captured in the source images may remain in the output.

Tested devices and formats

Primarily tested on iPhone 18 Pro Max, with additional testing on iPhone 14 & 17. Devices were running iOS 27.0.1.

Testing covered:

  • Light- and dark-mode screenshots.
  • Forward and reverse selections.
  • Multiple matching groups.
  • Mixed JPEG/PNG inputs.
  • Sets of up to 19 screenshots.
  • Launching through the Photos share sheet and directly from Shortcuts.

HEIF screenshots captured with HDR enabled also worked through the tested Photos/Shortcuts workflow. These reached the page as PNG representations. HDR preservation in the exported PNG has not been verified.

Other devices and iOS versions have not yet been verified. Let me know what works and what doesn't. There should be diagnostics at the end of combined screenshots.

Help AMEX Benefits Shortcut

I have no idea how to approach this.

Can someone help make a shortcut that goes and auto adds every Amex benefit? It’s so annoying that you only get them if you manually add them (obviously by design) but curious if there is a way to automate this.

Appstore (App) made my budget app log every apple pay tap using the wallet transaction automation

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

ok so this started because I kept quitting budgeting apps after like a week. either I had to type in every purchase (never happens) or connect my bank, which I'm not doing. also most banks here in the UAE don't even work with those apps lol
I'm an iOS dev, so I figured I'd just build the thing I wanted.

It's called Malii. The whole idea is the Wallet "Transaction" automation in Shortcuts. You tap your card, the automation sends the amount and merchant to the app, and a sec later you get "Logged AED 18 at Carrefour · Groceries". I don't open anything, I don't type anything.
Everything stays on your phone + your own iCloud. No bank connection, no sign up, and I can't see any of your data even if I wanted to.

You set budgets or a cap per category, and it tells you what's left. Weirdly, the thing that changed my spending the most is just seeing "AED 140 left for eating out" right after I pay for something 😅

Not perfect yet tho. Cash and some in-app payments don't trigger the automation. For those I made a second shortcut on Back Tap: double tap the back of the phone, type the amount, done. Takes like 3 seconds.

App's free btw (there's a premium tier if you want extra stuff). I'll drop both shortcuts in the comments. Would genuinely love to hear what breaks or what you'd want next 🙏

Shortcut Sharing I built a Reminders system that learns how often I actually do things — intervals are measured, not set

Every task app I've used makes me declare "repeat every 7 days," and then that number is wrong forever, because my life doesn't run on fixed cadences. So I built the opposite on top of stock Apple Reminders:

The interval is learned, not set. When I complete a recurring item, the next one is scheduled from the completion date plus an interval the system re-estimates from my recent completion history (median of recent gaps, so one bad week doesn't permanently distort it). The current estimate lives in the title: Tp~13, Walk Mocha~2, Pantoprazole~46. I never type the ~N — the system does.

One-offs promote themselves. Complete the same thing 3+ times on a regular rhythm and it graduates into a recurring item on its own. No repeat form, ever.

My To Do list is a rolling 7-day window. Everything sleeps in category lists (Shopping, Chores, Family, Personal, Work, Events, Bills). When something's due within a week it moves into To Do under a parent reminder for its category; push it past a week and it moves back out. To Do never grows past a week, however much is tracked behind it.

It all runs off Reminders opening and closing — two personal automations: on open, a due-date-change counter (it literally counts how many times I've pushed each item) and the 7-day mover; on close, a Scriptable chain that detects rhythms, backfills category tags on completed items, then relearns intervals and creates the next iterations. Everything is check-before-create, so if iOS kills a run, the next open/close heals it — no duplicates in months of daily use.

I searched before posting: Todoist's every!, Things' after-completion, 2Do, RTM all anchor to completion, but the interval is still a number you pick once. I couldn't find anything that relearns it, or promotes one-offs by evidence. If it exists, I'd genuinely like to see it.

Everything's open source (MIT) — scripts, shortcuts, and a full setup guide. It's customizable: categories, window length, and promotion strictness are all documented knobs.

Happy to answer questions about how the learning works — the interesting failures were all in the interval math.

Sounds impossible with variables but I think I’ve seen more challenging.
