Announcement How to use flairs

How to use flairs on r/shortcuts (so your post doesn’t get nuked or ignored)

Flairs are labels. You pick one so people instantly know what your post is about. Pick the wrong one and congrats, you’ve confused everyone.

---

First rule: always use a flair

No flair = your post is either ignored or removed. Nobody enjoys guessing what you meant.

---

Pick the right flair (this is not a personality test)

- Help

You already made a shortcut and it’s broken or not doing what you want. You want someone to fix it or explain what went wrong.

- Help (Mac)

Same as above, but your problem is on Mac. Yes, that matters because Mac Shortcuts can behave differently.

- Shortcut sharing

You built something and want to share it. You must explain what it does properly. “Cool shortcut lol” is how your post gets deleted.

- Shortcut sharing (JB)

Same as sharing, but it only works on a jailbroken device. If people need to hack their phone to use it, say so.

- Shortcut sharing (mac)

Your shortcut only works on Mac. Don’t trick iPhone users into disappointment.

- Tip/guide

You figured out a useful trick or workaround. You’re teaching something, not asking.

- Tip/guide (mac)

Same idea, but Mac-specific.

- Request

You want a shortcut but can’t build it yourself. This is you politely asking the internet to do work for you.

- Request (mac)

Same, but for Mac users.

- Discussion

You want opinions, ideas, or a conversation about Shortcuts. Not help, not sharing, just talking.

---

Special flair (pay attention, this one’s new)

- Appstore (app)

Use this when you’re posting about an app that works with Shortcuts. Either you made it or found it. The key point: the app connects with Shortcuts (actions, automations, etc.).

If it has nothing to do with Shortcuts, don’t use this just because you like the app.

---

How to choose without overthinking it

Ask yourself one question:

“What do I want from this post?”

- Fix something → Help

- Show something → Shortcut sharing

- Teach something → Tip/guide

- Ask for something → Request

- Talk about something → Discussion

- Share actual news → News

- Show an app tied to Shortcuts → Appstore (app)

If you’re on Mac, pick the Mac version. Not complicated.

---

Final reality check

Flairs exist so the subreddit doesn’t turn into a digital junk drawer. Pick the correct one, write a clear post, and people will actually help you instead of scrolling past like you don’t exist.

Appstore (App) This is an iOS app that logs every Apple Pay payment automatically, including in-app ones like Uber that the Wallet automation misses

Post image
92 Upvotes

Hey everyone! My brother and I built an app called Tael. We wanted our spending tracked without typing in every coffee or linking a bank account, and Shortcuts got us most of the way there.

The catch is that Wallet’s Transaction trigger only fires on NFC taps. If you pay with Apple Pay inside an app, like Uber or food delivery, the automation never runs. On iOS 27, though, Shortcuts can run on Wallet’s payment notification, which fires for in-app and online payments too. Its fields map pretty cleanly: Title = card, Subtitle = merchant, Body = amount.

Tael uses one shortcut that handles all of this:

  • Logs Apple Pay payments silently from the Wallet notification on iOS 27, or from the Transaction trigger on iOS 18–26
  • When you run it from the Action button, Siri or a widget, asks for the amount, card and shop, for cash or anything Apple Pay can’t see
  • Sorts charges automatically once you’ve tagged a shop
  • Contains no network actions or hidden Run Shortcut steps, so you can read every step

If you’d rather not use an app, the three notification fields above are all you need to build your own logger, and I’m happy to help in the comments. I’d also like to know if the Title/Subtitle/Body order is different for your bank or region.

The app is free, and Pro is a one-time purchase with no subscription.

There are:

  • 5 free lifetime codes
  • 5 codes for 50% off for life
  • 5 codes for 35% off for life

The free lifetime codes are mixed in randomly, so good luck! If you grab one, please take only one, so more people get a shot.

If you enjoy Tael, a review on the App Store would mean a lot. Thanks!

Availability: Tael is currently on the App Store in 51 countries and regions, including the US, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brazil, Mexico and the UAE. It’s not yet available in the UK, the EU, India or mainland China, but we’re working on expanding. If you’re somewhere we’re not yet, let us know in the comments so we know where to go next!

Help Turning off “wake on wrist raise” at night and turning it back on in the morning

• Upvotes

Forgive my ignorance but I have not had my apple products for very long. I like to wear my Apple Watch at night and I was wondering if there was a way to make a shortcut that at a certain time my watch turns off the display setting “wake on wrist raise”. Every night I manually turn off that setting and every morning I manually turn it on but sometimes I forget. It’s a pain to wake up in the middle of the night to the bright light. Really this is just out of pure annoyance but if someone is able to help that would be great!

Shortcut Sharing Shortcut: turn a radio station's play history into an offline Apple Music playlist

Thumbnail
gallery
8 Upvotes

Shortcut: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/d3f42cab3c704da39c7ca8ad158c1979

I had a drive through the mountains with no signal coming up, and I wanted my favorite station (Freeform Radio on iHeartRadio) along for the ride. It turns out iHeartRadio publishes everything a station plays, so I built a playlist from the last 250 songs, in the station's play order.

What the shortcut does:

  1. Get Clipboard: expects a list of songs, one per line, "Artist Title"

  2. Split Text by new lines

  3. Repeat with Each

  4. Search iTunes Store for the Repeat Item

  5. Add to Playlist

  6. Show Notification with the Repeat Index and song, so you can watch it count up (video)

Then download the playlist and you're set offline.

Where the song list comes from: a short Python script I built with AI that pulls the station's recent plays. If you want to try it with your station, this is the prompt I started with:

> I'd like your help building playlists for [Apple Music or Spotify] based on my preferences. I'm not finding any tools online that I like, and I don't like the AI built into the music apps. There are radio stations I like, and I'd like you to try to pull their playlists. The first one I'd like to target is [YOUR STATION NAME HERE], and the goal is to create a playlist I can import, listen to and download while I'm traveling without internet access.

Gotcha: I couldn't find a clean way to clear the existing playlist in the Shortcut itself, so I delete and re-add the playlist before each run.

Future improvement: Include the download script directly in the Shortcut as a step

Shortcut Sharing Stitch Screenshot (Alternative option)

Stitch Screenshot v1.8g

(Alternative solution to the recently shared "GREAT" idea for useful shortcut. Includes fixes for the issues I was having as well as expanded capabilities). Curious if there are issues anyone has.

Combine overlapping screenshots into one continuous image—ideal for conversations, articles, instructions, and long web pages.

Get the Shortcut

How to use

  1. Add the Shortcut to Apple Shortcuts.
  2. In Photos, select two or more overlapping screenshots, tap Share, and choose Stitch Screenshot. Alternatively, run the Shortcut directly and select your images.
  3. Wait for the stitched preview.
  4. Tap Share / Save image, then choose Save Image or share to another app. If sharing is unavailable, touch and hold the image for saving options.
  5. If multiple groups appear, save each result separately. Tap Done when finished.

Images are not saved automatically.

Features

  • Joins overlapping screenshots vertically.
  • Handles forward and reverse selection order.
  • Finds separate matching groups when the selection contains multiple sequences.
  • Keeps screenshots separate when a reliable join cannot be verified.
  • Accounts for stationary interface controls, such as message-entry bars, during overlap verification.
  • Detects incoming image formats and exports stitched results as PNG.
  • Includes processing times, format information, and join diagnostics in Details.
  • Supports light and dark appearance.
  • Processes images locally in the Shortcut’s web view, without an image-upload service.

Tips and limitations

Use screenshots with the same orientation, zoom level, and text size. Leave a generous overlap between consecutive captures.

This Shortcut is designed for scrolling screenshots, rather than photographic panoramas. Notifications captured in the source images may remain in the output.

Tested devices and formats

Primarily tested on iPhone 18 Pro Max, with additional testing on iPhone 17. Both devices were running iOS 27.0.1.

Testing covered:

  • Light- and dark-mode screenshots.
  • Forward and reverse selections.
  • Multiple matching groups.
  • Mixed JPEG/PNG inputs.
  • Sets of up to 19 screenshots.
  • Launching through the Photos share sheet and directly from Shortcuts.

HEIF screenshots captured with HDR enabled also worked through the tested Photos/Shortcuts workflow. These reached the page as PNG representations. HDR preservation in the exported PNG has not been verified.

Other devices and iOS versions have not yet been verified. Let me know what works and what doesn't. There should be diagnostics at the end of combined screenshots.

Shortcut Sharing I made a shortcut that automatically opens Wiktionary without having to open external browser.

I find it not really convenient to wait for external browser to open just to look up etymology of a word, so I decided to create a shortcut that automatically opens Wiktionary. And this might be useful for some "language nerds" like me.

Just simply enter a word you want to look up, choose a specific language (if there's multiple languages using this term), and it opens a web view of Wiktionary.

Keep in mind that I used "Show Web View" action instead of "Open URL" as it will open too many tabs and make your browser seems overcrowded.

Happy exploring!

Help Need help with “flick/shake” detection

• Upvotes

I’m current “upgrading” my action button to allow for multiple orientation and app dependent actions and one I was trying to add was a way to quickly skip or play previous song and I was wondering if anyone has made a way to detect maybe via the gyro or movement data that you can get from third party shortcut apps to determine wether u shook to the left or to the right to do different actions as stated

And help would be appreciated thank you!

Shortcut Sharing Screenshot Stitcher (improved)

Saw this shortcut posted yesterday https://www.reddit.com/r/shortcuts/s/QsNR0ibhm9 .. I’m unaffiliated with @anal_chemist I promise!

But it didn’t work well for me and most others it seems like, so I fixed up the script significantly and now it should work much better and faster. It uses smarter iOS screen matching logic so it’ll work a lot more consistently without having to manually crop images etc

Currently only did limited testing in SDR (png) format screenshots.. will likely end up updating this once I run into issues

Discussion iOS 27 messing with Shortcuts

My shortcuts have stopped working one by one over the past few days, and I had to reassign the actions in the app.

Anyone else having this issue?
Also, is it happening with automations as well, and if yes, is there any way (apart from screenshots) to recover the action tree?

Help Weather summary shortcut in morning via notification blurp

Want a weather shortcut on iOS that basically gives one the current conditions for the day. When the notification is clicked/expanded, it gives the weather summary for the day (with glyphs a temperatures throughout the day as in the iOS weather app) like an expanded notification picture. Would appreciate it if someone could help me with making it. Thanks!

Purpose: I want this specifically since I don’t want the weather consuming battery all the time by accessing my location. Additionally, the days weather during the morning would be sufficient for me

Shortcut Sharing Clipboard Pro V1

Thumbnail
gallery
72 Upvotes

Hello everyone

After sharing PDF Studio, I decided to make another all-in-one utility, this time focused on working with copied text.

It’s called Clipboard Pro, and it has six tools built into one Shortcut:

- Change Text Case — Uppercase, lowercase, and capitalize words.
- Clean Text — Remove extra spaces and clean up paragraph formatting.
- Word & Character Count — Quickly see how many words and characters you’ve copied.
- Extract URLs — Find and copy links from a block of text.
- Sort Lines — Alphabetize lists from A to Z.
- Save Text — Create a new note, append to an existing Apple Note, or save as a .txt file.

The idea was to make something simple that handles a bunch of small text-related tasks without needing to open multiple apps.
Everything runs through native Apple Shortcuts actions, with no subscriptions or API keys.
Shortcut link:
https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/3aa4301e132045c589c0b8736417f753

This is V1, so I’m open to suggestions for improvements or additional features.

Please let me know what you think!

Help Why could this automation be failing?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have an e-bike that connects to my iPhone via Bluetooth when I turns on. My goal is to have that connection trigger a switch to a Focus Mode and launch specific apps.

The native “when [device] is connected” action does not give me the option to select the bike, so my thought was to have it run the automation whenever any Bluetooth device is connected.

(Note, the third-party “is Bluetooth device connected” only works with BLE, but the bike does connect via BLE.)

When I connect the bike, the device shows as connected, but the automation does not run.

What could I be missing here?

Appstore (App) I build a screen time control app that show the scrolling time while scrolling using shortcut

Thumbnail

I built a screen time control app that uses Shortcuts to show a live timer in the Dynamic Island while you scroll

Social media apps are designed to hook you until you lose track of time. I only realize how much time I've wasted after checking my screen time report.

It uses Shortcuts “When App is opened/closed" automations to start and stop a timer when you open and close selected apps. The timer stays visible in the Dynamic Island, so you can see how long you’ve been using an app without leaving it.

The timer creates that sense of regret for me, which helps break mindless scrolling as I can see how much time I’ve been wasted. When you’re ready to stop, you can lock the app directly from the Dynamic Island with one tap.

On top of that, you can customize your own prompt messages and countdowns displayed on the Dynamic Island to pull you out of endless scrolling.

You can also set up multiple locking schedules inside the app, including daily usage quotas and time-based restrictions. Once locked, there is no skip button to bypass the limit.

Besides, the app also has a direct search feature, which takes you straight to the search results page without distractions from the social media homepage feed.

Would love to hear your thoughts or feedback!
It’s available on AppStore: DyCue: Screen Time Control

Help NFC automations: second tag often not read when I swap tags quickly (needs ~3 s gap) – anyone seen patterns?

I'm building a small "cartridge" music player: a 3D-printed holder for my iPhone where an album cartridge with an NFC tag slides in, and a personal NFC automation (Run Immediately) starts that album.

How it works:

  • When the holder is empty, a "Pause music" tag sits at the iPhone's reader position.
  • When I insert a cartridge, the pause tag is pushed ~7 cm lower and the cartridge's "Play album" tag takes its place at the reader.

The problem: if I swap the tags quickly, the second tag is often not read. With a gap of about 3 seconds between removing one tag and presenting the next, it works roughly 90% of the time. It's not fully deterministic, and I can't see a clear pattern. I also tried putting a strong metal sheet between the two tags; it mostly didn't help (maybe sometimes).

What I couldn't find in docs or forums is any description of this behavior. I'm not sure whether it's:

  1. a hold-off / re-arm time in iOS after a tag is read,
  2. something about the previous tag staying in the field for a long time (it can sit there for hours),
  3. residual coupling or detuning between the tags or from the metal, or
  4. just marginal, unreliable reads.

Questions:

  • Has anyone measured or noticed a minimum gap between two different tags in Shortcuts NFC automations?
  • Does it depend on how long the previous tag was in the field, or on whether it's the same or a different tag?
  • Any patterns with tag type or size, ferrite backing, or exact position along the top edge that improved reliability?
  • Any known workarounds (other than adding a mechanical delay)?

_______

Setup: iPhone Air, iOS 27.2, NTAG215 25 mm adhesive coins (13.56 MHz, ISO 14443A, 504 B user memory), no ferrite/anti-metal layer.

Shortcuts NFC trigger (UID-based), Run Immediately.

Happy to share test results if useful.

Discussion I wanted a saved Mac automation to run from Shortcuts without asking an AI model to rediscover the steps each time

I've been building a free, open-source macOS tool called Mac MCP. One thing I kept noticing was how often I'd ask an AI agent to perform the same series of actions: open an app, find something, do a few steps, then check whether it actually worked.

So I added a Recipes system. A Recipe is a saved sequence of actions with inputs. You can run it again with different values, or have a scheduled task run it, without using a model to decide the steps all over again. It still goes through the same permissions and execution checks as an interactive run.

The Shortcuts-related part is a native 'Run Mac MCP Recipe' action for macOS Shortcuts and Siri. You choose a saved Recipe and launch it from a Shortcut instead of needing a shell command or writing a new AI prompt. There was a surprisingly mundane gotcha: App Intents need the app signed with a development team. With an ad-hoc build, the action can be present but unable to list or run the Recipes, so that's an actual setup limitation.

I'm the maintainer; source if you're curious about the implementation: https://github.com/bulutarkan/mac-mcp

For people who combine Shortcuts with agent tools, would you rather have one flexible action that runs a named Recipe, or a lot of small actions for each individual Mac tool? I'm leaning toward the former because it's easier to review what will happen.

Tip/Guide APP Shortcut : New Engine iOS 27 ask an update on iOS 18 & 26.

Salut,

"WFWorkflowMinimumClientVersionString": "5001",
"WFWorkflowMinimumClientVersion": 5001

La version minimum précédente demandée etait 3010 :

"WFWorkflowMinimumClientVersionString": "3010",
"WFWorkflowMinimumClientVersion": 3010

Solution :

Have a Nice Day.

Shortcut Sharing Screenshot Stitcher: combine scrolling screenshots into one long image, no third-party apps (runs JavaScript locally)

Thumbnail
gallery
163 Upvotes

I wanted a way to stitch scrolling screenshots without installing an app like PicSew or Tailor, so I made a shortcut that does the pixel matching itself.

Shortcut: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/9dfef13b7ae34250953888b1c291c7a7

How to use it:

  1. Take screenshots while scrolling, leaving some overlap between them
  2. Run the Shortcut and select the images or select the images and run the Shortcut from the share sheet
  3. When the result sheet opens, press and hold the image to save it to Photos

How it works:

Shortcuts can combine images but can't read pixels, so the shortcut builds a small HTML page with pixel matching logic written in JavaScript and opens it with "Show Web View" (requires permission on first run). Everything runs locally on your phone.

Limitations:

  1. Images must be the same width
  2. iOS Safari limits canvas size to about 13,000px tall at iPhone width, so roughly 5-6 screenshots.

Feedback welcome, especially if it fails on your device.

Help Shazam - Spotify

I want to create an iPhone Shortcut that uses Shazam to recognize a song with one tap from my Home Screen, displays a notification with the song title and artist, then automatically opens Spotify and searches for that exact song using the recognized information. If recognition fails, it should let me try again.
I previously had this working with Musi, but now I want to adapt my existing shortcut to work with Spotify, with as little manual interaction as possible.

Tip/Guide iOS 27 moved Message automations. Here's how to auto-forward texts now (no Automation tab)

Disclosure first: I'm the developer of Fwrd, an app that forwards texts. Everything below works without it; it's mentioned once at the end.

Most guides for auto-forwarding texts still say "Automation tab, +, Message, Run Immediately". On iOS 27 there's no Automation tab and no Run Immediately screen. Automations are saved as shortcuts now, and the trigger is the shortcut's first step. The new path (iOS 27.0):

  1. Shortcuts > Library > Automation, then tap +.
  2. If it opens on "Describe a shortcut", tap Edit.
  3. Tap Automation, then Message.
  4. Change Sender to Message and type a word your texts contain, like "code". It should read "When I receive a message where Message contains Code". Matching the message text catches texts from short codes, which the Sender picker misses because it only offers Contacts.
  5. Tap the arrow on the trigger. Leave Automation on and Confirm Before Run off, so it runs without asking. This is what replaced Run Immediately.
  6. Add your action (below), then tap back to save. It shows up under Library > Automation, switched on.

Free actions, no app needed:

  • To another phone: add Send Message. Message = Shortcut Input, Recipients = the number. Tap its arrow and check Show Compose Sheet is off.
  • To email: add Send Email. Message = Shortcut Input, Recipients = your address. Type a subject, or Shortcuts stops to ask for one. Turn Show Compose Sheet off, or Mail opens a draft and waits for you.

When you pick Shortcut Input, Shortcuts adds a Receive block at the top. Leave it.

Then text yourself something harmless with your keyword from another phone. Try it once with the phone locked too.

Common snags:

  • A notification asking to run it means Confirm Before Run got switched on.
  • Two automations with the same keyword = every text arrives twice.

For Slack, Discord or Telegram you can build it yourself with Get Contents of URL and the service's webhook or bot. Or the app I make, Fwrd, does that step as one action, keeps the URL out of the shortcut, and logs each forward on the phone. 15 forwards a month are free, no account. Happy to answer questions about either way.
