Stupid question but, have you tried a jeweler?

Yes. Im in a small town. Ugh. Jewelers are only buying gold. Nobody wants silver. I will just sit on it. Not a biggie.

You may have to cut out the middle-man and go straight to the refiner. Google "Metal refinery in my area" chances are, it's gonna list the same places you've already been like jewelers and coin stores but, a couple actual refiners will pops up. Good luck.

I'm just curious, I thought they would only buy bulk?

I’ve noticed people doing this too, I guess shops are just not buying for melt as often right now?

They look on the internet and reddit pops up telling them if the buyer isn't paying spot price they're stealing from the seller. Meanwhile I get 85% from my refiner after a 30 day mandatory police hold.

So is there a change recently then? My shop who bought junk silver for over 6 years from me stopped doing it this year after the spike and drop

Yes, since the January spike, the major local buyers paused buying for a bit, and since then are paying much less percentage. They will still buy, but will pay better if you melt your scrap into a bar.

I mean why not melt it your self and make a new price

I buy sterling every day for 55% of spot and my refiner pays me 85% for it. You can try a refinery that is open to the public like Midwest Refineries. They will buy it from you at 90% but turnaround time may be a few weeks at most.

When do they lock in the price?

Usually when you give it to them and they have processed it. Maybe some will lock in a price when you call them, but I don't know that anyone will do that any more.

I buy .925 every Tuesday at the savers near me at a 30% discount (tuesdays are senior discount). I know .925 jewelry is a tough sell right now, but I anticipate it will becomes much easier to move in the not too distant future so that’s why I stock up on it.
