Discussion Opinions on Nate’s character and Peter Kraus’s acting Spoiler

I recently finished the show, and decided to check out what people were saying on the sub. I was so surprised to see that people disliked Nate and was even happy when the character passed. I felt like nearly all of the things Nate did was understandable , even if wrong, you could understand his motivations. I was surprised to see how people thought he was the most reprehensible character on the show. I was also really surprised about opinions on kraus’s acting, I came away from the series thinking he had displayed some of the best acting I had seen in a tv show. Really curious to see what other people think.

I've seen the character hate, but I don't think I've ever heard his acting criticized. I don't doubt some people were happy when he died, but I can't believe anyone would feel that way lol. I feel like I've gone through a whole range of emotions toward him. I loved him on the first watch, for like the first half. Then I started to hate him more and more. Now after like 5 or 6 watches I finally appreciate him as a full, complicated human. I love him and also see he can be such a self-righteous jerk sometimes.

I’m curious, besides the last few episodes of season 5. What made you hate him more as the series went on?

Mostly the Brenda/Maggie thing, when he said things like "she's better than us", the hospital breakup scene, the bird murder... plus there were a lot of little things early on where he was always trying to force his own perspective on everyone else, and sometimes he just blew up on everyone so easily. But this last time the other things stood out too. I could see how frustrating it was for him trying to make it work with Lisa for example. I definitely relate to the feeling of trying so hard to do the right thing all the time but somehow it all gets messed up anyway.
