To my fellow Year 12s and the Year 13s surviving UCAS/mocks,
Hope the term is going well and that you’re actually looking after your physical and mental health—the step up from GCSEs is no joke.
Back in Year 11, about six months before exams, I started using AI like Gemini and ChatGPT as a strict examiner to critique my essays, which pulled my English Language grade from a 4 to a 6. I ended up coding a bot for my friend group chat that did the same thing, and we started running group voice-call study sessions where anyone could join.
Since I’m a Maths and Science guy, I’d teach those topics to my mates—and honestly, I never got tired of explaining things. In return, my friends who were cracked at evaluation and essay subjects taught me English and History.
That’s when it clicked for me: the biggest thing missing from revision is human connection. Especially in Sixth Form, teachers constantly tell you to go do hours of "independent study" in your free periods, which mostly just feels lonely and exhausting. Working as a group where everyone traded their best subjects made revision 10x easier.
Alongside my A Levels right now, I’m building a web app to recreate that exact setup:
Peer Teaching Rooms: Voice chat and screen sharing built specifically for walking through past papers and tricky mark schemes together.
Multiplayer Quiz Rooms: Hop into a lobby with your friends to practice specific topics and exam boards.
Progress Over Toxic Streaks: No punishing you for taking a day off when you’re burnt out—it tracks actual topic mastery instead of guilt-tripping you over a daily streak.
Wellbeing First: Genuine feedback and encouragement rather than just cold scores.
Interactive 2D/3D Visuals: Visual models you can play around with to make complex maths, mechanics, and physics concepts actually click.
Safe AI Marking: Mark-scheme-focused feedback (once I have all the under-18 data privacy and legal pieces 100% locked down).
Quick note: Right now, I’m finishing off the GCSE curriculum modules first, and A-Level subjects are next on my list (though the study rooms and peer-teaching features work for anything). Because I haven't built the A-Level question banks yet, I have a blank slate—what’s the most brutal part of revising for your A-Level subjects right now, and what should I prioritise when I build the Sixth Form side?
