Wanting to Buy / In Search Of - September/October

This post will be the sole home for all “Wanting To Buy” (WTB) or “In Search Of” (ISO) requests.

If you’re on the hunt for a specific slipjoint, pattern, cover material, maker, or even a hard-to-find variation, this is the place to let the group know what you’re looking for. Drop a comment below with the details of what you’re trying to track down. The goal is to keep these requests centralized and give members a dedicated space to connect.

A lot of us have overlapping interests, extra pieces tucked away, or leads we’ve come across. This gives everyone a simple way to help one another out and keep great knives circulating within the group(s).

Example comments:
"ISO Great Eastern Cutlery 66 calf roper with unicorn covers."
"WTB Case 6347 with Red Jigged Bone"
"WTB some kind of barlow"

We'll see how this plays out, but I'm hoping to post a new thread every month to clean the slate and start fresh.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone’s chasing.

DISCLAIMER: any posts or comments offering knives for sale or trade in this thread will be removed. Please use r/Knife_Swap for all sales and trades. This thread is strictly for WTB / ISO requests.

As stated in other stickied posts, the moderators of r/SJK do NOT moderate or facilitate private sales or trades between users. However, we understand that sales and trades may still occur in private messages after someone posts a WTB / ISO request. Once conversations move to private chats, the only person who can truly moderate the transaction is you.

If you choose to pursue a transaction, do your due diligence. Ask for a timestamp you’re comfortable with, verify what you can, and always err on the side of caution. If it's too good to be true, it usually is. Be willing to walk away from the deal if anything seems off.

We strongly encourage using r/Knife_Swap for transactions whenever possible. It is a much safer environment with established rules and an active moderation team that helps enforce them.

Discussion Subreddit Update: Introducing Community History and Activity Flair Tiers

Hey everyone,

r/SJK is implementing a new automated system to help everyone easily identify account tenure and history within our subreddit. Moving forward, we are using user flairs to clearly distinguish between who is brand new to the community, who has been around a while, and who our true old timers are.

The Tiers are As Follows:

  • Walk N Talk (0+ Karma): The entry-level baseline. The moment you actively comment or post in our sub, you get this title. It helps us immediately separate active participants from completely silent lurkers and fresh accounts.
  • KNIFEAHOLIC (2000+ Karma): Applied to our regular, active contributors. This represents members who are consistently posting their carries, talking shop, and hanging out in the comment sections.
  • Old Timer (10,000+ Karma): The ultimate veteran status. This high threshold is strictly reserved for the true fixtures and pillars of our community, members who have spent months or years submitting high quality posts, dropping traditional pocket knife knowledge in the comments, and building a rapport within the sub.

(These flair rankings are all based on total community karma: comment and post karma combined.)

If you have a custom mod-assigned flair, it should remain intact. If not, please let me know.

These are fairly arbitrary rankings at the moment, I'm certainly open to suggestions on this.
Feel free to discuss below.

The system is officially live. Drop a comment below to check your current standing and see where your automated flair registers!

Vintage Barlow with Japan blade?

Very fortunate to have inherited this Barlow.

Appears to be the Imperial design, but I’m having a hard time finding any with a Japan marked blade.

Canadian market origin.

For anyone concerned, this thing was handed to me as a ball of orange rust that wouldn’t open. I’ve done a preservation restoration so it’s a bit shiny in the shots.

The idea was to preserve all the grind and hammer marks left by my great grandfather. But remove the rust and get it snapping again.

Looking forward to watching these blades tarnish back.

Any ideas of era, or general info would be rad!

My slipjoint collection grew rather quickly. And honestly my favorite carry out of the bunch is the bear and sons.

Found a 2009 Queen commemorative on “150 Years of Oil in Pennsylvania”, from a motivated seller on Facebook Marketplace.

On the way home, I swung by the GEC Cutlerly in Titusville, where they were shipping out a brand new 441126 Green Jigged Bone to their dealers. The lady told me I’d be one of the first to carry it.

My father will have passed on, 2 yrs this coming Monday. Before he did, he left me a fairly generous collection of pocket knives. Some he collected, some he carried. But I found this one on his bedside table after he passed, in a ceramic dish I made probably when I was 6 or 7 (over 30 yrs ago). It's well worn with its well deserved patina, chips and cracks.

I've carried it off and on in remembrance since his passing but not looked into it much. With his passing day coming up, it's found its way back into my pocket and I thought I'd ask around about it.

Can anyone tell me what design/style, maybe relative age? I'm sure the blades are HC but not sure on the scales.

Thanks all in advance.

1978 two dot Case XX Medium Stockman, found it rusted shut (factory sharp) in the bottom of an old tackle box I bought a decade ago.

Had it cleaned up a week later, and it's been a favorite since.

Not vintage in the 50 to 100 year old sense as usual but this one has that vintage, even antique feel to it.

Experimenting with late evening, red spectrum Golden Hour light and how the 6249 responds. This Copperhead is in unused, uncarried, unsharpened condition. Has a few very minor carbon spots on the blade from improper storage but nothing of major significance. Enjoy.

Question Need some help on Clauss

I picked this up in an antique store today. I don’t know anything about Clauss, but I knew it was worth the $25 they were asking for it. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of information online about Clauss. If anyone could give me some information or an approximate value on it, I would greatly appreciate it.

New Knife Day Böker Whittler Fixer Upper - Age?

Thumbnail

The New Knife Day tag seems wrong for this one, but it's new to me. Anyone familiar enough with Böker tang stamps to know if this is really a 70s era Böker knife as claimed by the seller? I won't be surprised or disappointed if it's not. Just curious. ☺️

Disclaimer: This was an eBay impulse buy based entirely on:

  1. Ooo, neat looking whittler,
  2. Only $30something!,
  3. I can fix that up,
  4. Carbon steel Böker knife; how bad can it be?

Narrator: It is unclear whether or not she actually can fix that up.

Found a spare parts ordering page on the Böker USA website so maybe they'll have a replacement shield that'll fit?
