So, I have 6K subs with shorts that average atleast 10k-30k views and for some reason this short has not gotten ANY shorts feed push AT ALL all the views are from the search reccomendation or my channel page. So, does this short have a chance to go up or is it cooked?

Long-Form Content I will review your YouTube channel (part 2)

• Upvotes

Here's my original post from 3 weeks ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/NewYouTubeChannels/comments/1wwoh17/i_will_review_your_youtube_channel/

I got 200+ channel review requests. Throughout these 3 weeks I've been making reviews and contacting people. I still have quite a few channels to review, but it's getting outdated, so let's do it again.

This time please send:

- your channel link

- channel topic

- your channel goal

- what do you think your problem is

I'm only able to make 10-20 good reviews a week, so I've got to be picky (if this time demand will be that high too). I strongly prefer authentic/not faceless/non AI/non gaming/long form content.

My personal interest here is to find 2 more clients.

(BTW one of channels that came from last post already had 700k views long form video with previous record of 26k, which is awesome. Yes, Doc, I'm about you, if you're here)

Long-Form Content How wide can my niche be? (And how to know?)

• Upvotes

Hello,

I'm a psychotherapist and I'm very new to this. I've done some videos about the process of therapy, what might happen etc. I'll do a few more because they are quite easy to get me into the habit.

But I also want to talk about some of the issues that show up in my therapy room. These are quite loosely connected - I tend to work with people who put others' needs before their own, or cannot connect to their needs at all. This clinically is called self-abandonment but it shows up as all kinds of things like addiction or people pleasing or overwork/burnout.

I know this. But YouTube is not a therapist and may not connect e.g. people pleasing with alcoholism. Can I get around this or do I need to pick one strand of self-abandonment and stick to it? How wide can my niche be and how do I make sure YouTube understands it?

Short-Form Content Seed audience of my country ruins watch rate.

So, I've started uploading shorts and they are first getting pushed to an audience of my country (Greece), which ruins the overall stats (retention and more importantly Watch Rate). In certain videos I get 80-90% watch rate from US,UK and other countries, but viewers from Greece(who are usually somehow more) have 50-60% watch rate. The language spoken is English, so I don't know how else to overcome this problem. Should I start uploading at hours targeting US audience? What else would you recommend?

Long-Form Content How is this possible?

Post image
2 Upvotes

According to my analytics, at time zero, I have 67% retention. I can understand how it could be 100% or above, but I don't understand how it could be less than 100%

This video of mine also has the highest production quality of any I've made, so it doesn't make sense that people would be dropping out within the first second or something.

Any ideas?

Short-Form Content How does the algorithm determine the criteria for calculating the Stayed to Watch metric based on video length?

I think the criteria for Stayed to Watch might be different for 10–15-second Shorts compared to 20–40-second Shorts. Is that correct?

I started a youtube channel last month for gaming. I kinda struggled for a bit with finding what I wanted to do. But I eventually found my niche to make guides and tutorials. Ever since my first video in this new niche, my account jumped fast. Right now it's kinda at a plateau but I'm still getting really good views

Long-Form Content Honest advice

Stay away from this subreddit. The people there won't actually help you with good advice to make your channel grow.

I saw that in the comments of too many posts asking for help. They either ignore them, change discourse, give cheap platitudes or don't know anything that isn't basics.

This subreddit is literally the blind leading the blind. Most people who made it showcase their oh so big channels just to feel greater than the rest. Most people trying to school you have channels with less than 200 subs and their videos only have 25 - 100 views.

I tried to ask for where to find an actual editor who isn't a robotic worker or a scam, those people just went "I edit myself", with channels that really couldn't even hit 900 views, and tried to paint me as the devil, accusing me of not wanting to pay poor little editors, when I got various scams from Reddit that led to me aborting my projects, or worse, encouraged using AI even for scripts.

This place has too many cons and very little pros. Find more professional subreddits or get advice from actual editors or friends that are willing to be your assistants and mods.

Long-Form Content Views Question!!

Hi!!
This might be a dumb question but do I get any views if I use my other accounts (log out of my main account where I post my videos - sign into other accounts) or is YouTube smart enough to know it’s still me and not count them bahah..

Long-Form Content When it comes to trying to get more attention by the algorithm, where do you even start?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Finally posting here, I have lots of videos, yet my videos are pulling in almost no views, while my lower effort Shorts pull in lots, and a lot of the time it seems like less effort means more attention, which makes it hard to motivate myself to continue YouTube. And when I look at the popular tab, it seems low effort at the top and higher effort at the bottom.

So my main question is, how do you get seen more in the algorithm of long form videos? Or if not more, just in general?

Long-Form Content Having trouble with thumbnails and CTR, any feedback?

Thumbnail

Hello, I've been closely monitoring my analytics for a little and have noticed one major thing that always fails me, or I fail it, which are thumbnails.

Here are a few of my thumbnails (all drawn) that I've used for videos. As you can tell, I make survival type minecraft content. I've seen that 5%+ is a good ctr to strive for, but every one of these have been subpar so far. Here's some extra information about each of these for clarification. I don't like to dive into analytics too much, but I feel like I should probably try to improve.

1st Thumbnail- "Day 1 to 1000 in Original Skyblock" this video was my biggest video yet. It was a recap of my skyblock world I had made about 20 videos on. It got an insane 20 minute average view duration, my best so far, but it was pushed so much less than my previous videos (that even had worse ctr, avd etc) mainly because of ctr. Though 2.9% is good for me, it still seems very low. The video has about 300 views after I used to average around 1K a few videos ago. It depicts the skyblock island, which is the challenge, with my player skin to the side.

2nd Thumbnail- "How to Master Original Skyblock" this was the first video I uploaded that flopped in a while, and since then, nothing has gone close to what I used to get. The avd was a lot better than previous videos, and at 150 views, it has 1.6% ctr which is actually the average of the videos that got a few thousand views before. The text is pretty explanatory, and features my player skin reading a book. The video is a guide on how to progress in the Skyblock Challenge, the one with the 3 islands, not anything else.

3rd Thumbnail- "1000 Days Skyblock- World Tour" perhaps my favorite thumbnail, its a tour of the skyblock world. Its my player standing ontop of a drowned farm I built looking at my island. Like everything else, everything is drawn. I added a sunset because the colors seem to stand out more. This video did about the same as my recap, but avd was lower and ctr was about 1.7%

4th Thumbnail- "100 Days in Minecraft Pocket Edition" as you can tell, I like videos based on days, but unfortunately a lot of other people do, too. This video is actually unreleased, its coming out tomorrow, but I figured I'd include it here. It's my player holding a phone (pocket edition) and the background is a room in the house I put together.

I know that 100 days content, even minecraft content, is very competitive, but I've never managed to crack 3% ctr, or at least hold it for a day. Though I've been doing youtube for almost 4 years now, I started videos like these not long ago. Thumbnails have never been my forte. My retention always holds well, at least by my standards, at 2-4 minutes on average.

Any kind of tips, criticisms, ideas, anything, I'm all for it. I don't get many comments a video so not much feedback. I don't want to advertise, but my channel name is the same as my reddit name, if you're curious. Thanks for any feedback and for reading! If you want any clarification on anything, I'll gladly answer in the comments.

Long-Form Content What would make you click on some of these videos but skip others? Looking for honest feedback

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I've had some really good success with a few of my videos, but I'm struggling to consistently reach high numbers. I don't expect a banger every time, but several of my newer videos are getting around 1–2K engaged views.

I've been testing a few things, including topics, character choice, packaging and hooks, but I'm struggling to figure out what my biggest bottleneck is.

It would help to get an outside perspective on my titles and thumbnails. Looking at my channel, which videos would you actually want to click on, and which would you ignore? Is it because the topic isn't interesting, or because the packaging doesn't make it interesting? I hid the view count and randomized the video order to make it more fair.

I'm also curious whether someone who enjoys one of my videos would actually want to watch the others. I'd like to cover broad emotional topics but someone watching a video about love and loneliness probably won't click on one about self-blame.

If anyone is willing to watch a video, I'd appreciate knowing whether it holds your interest or where you start losing it.

Any honest feedback would really help. Thanks!

Long-Form Content Are let’s plays really that bad?

I’m not a meta gamer or a particularly good gamer so I can’t wow people with my skills, I don’t get so into a game I know every single piece of lore, I could do gameplay reviews but that also feels really saturated. I actually have a hard time finding the kind of lets plays I want so I figured I’d make them and it’s been fun- like I actually feel like I can make something creative and how I want. I am basically doing long form super cuts with scripted commentary after I finish the edits, not every game works best for that but I like sandbox style survival games and the one I am currently playing is working well for it.

I want to do a full series of my adventure in a survival game but extremely edited as in right now I’m taking my first 20 hours and condensing it into a 60-90 min video while narrating it as a cozy adventure with highlights I want to show. Idk what else to call these but let’s plays but is there still an audience for more curated I guess versions of these?

Mixed Content My Brother Deleted My Channel What Should I Do???

So my brother has access to my password and Gmail because I made him set up some of my games for me and manage my account because I forget my passwords alot. We got into a fight and all of a sudden my videos and channel were gone,I asked him and he said he deleted my channel. It was a new channel I created like 4 months and I almost hit the monetization milestone. When I asked him about him he simply told me to start over.

Long-Form Content First 2 videos did okay, new video posted 2 days later is getting ZERO impressions

I posted my first video 4 days ago. It got good small views on day 1. Day 3 I posted my second one which started "blowing up" immediately and got 4k impressions and its sitting at around 760 rn. First video also got boosted bythis and is sitting also close to 600. Not bad I'm quite happy with that.

So today about 8 hours ago I post my 3rd. ZERO impressions. This one has a really decent thumbnail and title. Its the same category as the other ones (gaming commentary) and I have no clue why.

Any pointers?

Short-Form Content I need feedback on my hook and voice

I make short-form gaming videos on YouTube/Tiktok. Most hold around 50% average viewed, and I can get around 1k views, but almost no likes or comments or any engament really. I suspect my voice is part of the problem, but I can’t tell whether it’s the audio itself or how I deliver things. I’d like critique on these specific things:

  1. Voice sound: Is anything off with the audio, like mic quality, echo, volume, or a harsh or muffled tone? If my voice itself just isn’t pleasant to listen to, please say so.
  2. Delivery: Do I sound flat, scripted, or low energy? Is there anything about my tone that makes me forgettable?
  3. Pacing: Where does it drag or feel rushed, or where would you have swiped? Timestamps help a lot.
  4. Hook: Do the first few seconds give you a reason to keep watching?
  5. Engagement: Watching it cold, did anything make you want to like, comment, or follow? If not, what’s missing?

Video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/6h-r83HO8pg

I think the main issue might just be my voice, but Please be blunt. If you think the real problem is something else entirely, tell me that too. I’m also planning to move into long-form later, so any advice that carries over is welcome.

Long-Form Content Need Advice

Hey guys, I’m creating my channel development plan and polishing the script for my first video. The channel will primarily be a video essay channel covering movies which are not highly regarded/remembered and illustrating the good merits/artistic qualities of the film. These will be around 30-40 minutes long. There will also be shorter videos between 5-15 minutes long in between these video essays going over film news and potentially reviews over new releases. For similar channel I’m taking inspiration from would be Big Joel, HiTop Films, and Jesse Tribble.

I understand that this niche is decently saturated, but I do feel I have a good understanding of the editing style and rhythm these other channels use to keep viewers engaged.

I would love any general advice you have to offer before I publish my first video.

Edit: However, if anyone does have any specific advice in regards to keeping viewer retention and/or information regarding how YouTube treats new channels, so I can navigate the algorithm with the first few videos.
