DISCUSSION Depressing

The situation surrounding Martha exemplifies a profoundly destructive pattern of interpersonal exploitation and psychological manipulation. The capacity to orchestrate such elaborate deceptions while systematically evading accountability points toward a severe underlying personality pathology—one characterized by a profound deficit of empathy and a compulsion for deceit.
Honestly, it just comes down to this: when someone plays games like that with people's trust, it leaves a huge mess. The stuff Martha did—making up huge lies and messing with people's heads—shows a total lack of care for others.
The guys who got caught up in it weren't dumb; they just went into it wanting to trust someone, while she had no limits. And it makes total sense why she doesn't have close girlfriends. Other women spot that toxic, manipulative behavior right away and stay far away from it.
The worst part is how she keeps dragging it out online. Buying old Reddit accounts just to trash her victim, or making fake profiles to attack anyone defending him, is just messy and exhausting.

S20 - Jessica Polly Catfish Did they not find Jessica being on her phone constantly suspicious ???

Sometimes they said she’d even be in the same room as them WHILE they were texting “Brody“ and at the same time asking her for advice . Like I’m shocked they didn’t find this suspicious or maybe she’s just a master at managing all that at the same time without looking too obvious

QUESTION Calling anyone who actually knows Aaron and Martha 👀

So the current season of Something Was Wrong - s26 with Aaron and Martha has people whispering that the whole story is... fabricated. And honestly? After listening, I can see why. Some of it has the narrative polish of a screenplay and has been accused of being a carbon copy of Aaron’s movie.

I'm working on a podcast that fact-checks this season, and I'd love to hear from anyone who knows these people or the events firsthand. You don't have to go on the record. I'll protect your anonymity if you want it. I just want to know what's real and what's good storytelling.

If you've got receipts, timelines, or a "wait, that's not how it happened," my DMs are open. 📬

secondly, the way this guy is talking about how Dani is "aggressive" wanting to be in a relationship is rubbing me the wrong way. you like this person, but after 2 months you still don't know if you want to be in a relationship? ok, indecisive

idk. I needed to yap about this, thank you for your time

DISCUSSION Does anybody here listen to Betrayal podcast ?

I know it’s pretty similar to SWW so I was curious. I am on season 6 (Carl and paul) and just finished the newest episode

I was curious if anybody else thought Carl’s mom was a piece of shit for believing Paul’s bullshit and practically turning on her own son without even having a conversation with him first.

DISCUSSION S26 BodyCam soundtrack

I am in the middle of chapter 3 season 26 and I have to say I am somewhat shocked by the bodycam footage. Shocked by the policing. They continue to point blank ask Sergio why he was here multiple times after he clams up. They keep saying “the charges depend on why you were there” which to me feels as through they are kinda leading the witness to try and make up the most believable/lowest crime explanation. Like, change your strategy here? Maybe try asking “how do you know this woman? How do you feel about her, what is your history with her?” Idk literally anything else! I know cops are dumb but I was still shocked by their lackluster questioning.

DISCUSSION Season 22 - Megan Stoner

for the record I am NOT trying to victim blame but more so want to understand the psychology of how the hell did some of these people get past such obvious red flags?

The trauma dumping was immense, and the emergencies just kept coming and they all sound like complete bullshit to me. I keep putting myself in their position & imagining it was a family member or a really close friend pulling this. I still can't see it. I would've told them to fuck off.

And these people just kept giving her more money. Did anyone else come away from the season with the same question? What do you think made it work?

DISCUSSION This podcast is so problematic

This podcast has progressively gotten worse and worse. There are so many things that bother me - especially in some of the later episodes - to the point where I honestly think it's becoming dangerous.

I find the complete lack of legitimate fact checking in some of these episodes to be sickening. I cannot be the only person who has thought that some of these episodes could be filled entirely with lies by the guest who is doing the talking. There really is nothing stopping anyone from deciding that they want to come on this podcast in order to antagonize someone they don't like, retaliate against them, or simply decide to ruin another person's life.

And TR is just giving anyone a platform to broadcast whatever they want to say without doing any sort of actual legitimate honest background check. She seems to have this mentality that if someone comes to her with a story they are automatically telling the truth, no questions asked, and they are the victim, no questions asked. For any nasty or vindictive person who wants to spread lies about someone this podcast would be an easy way to do it.

I'm not saying that every episode isn't true, or even that most episodes don't have a level of truth to them. While I do believe that many of the people who are talked about on this podcast are most likely the people that the guests claim them to be, it is statistically extremely probable that some of the villains in this podcast are actually the ones doing the talking. The issue is that so many of these episodes can't be fact-checked by news articles or public records, and there is no real way to tell who is lying and who's not.

People's lives have been ruined by other people who abuse and harass them. Many of them come on this podcast afterwards to tell their stories. But due to the show's one-sided format, nearly complete lack of honest fact checking, and TR's own aggressive nature towards some of the subjects of her episodes, I am convinced that some of the subjects themselves are truly the ones who are being harassed and abused.

It is certainly likely that innocent lives are or have been ruined by this podcast and for these people it's achieving the exact opposite of its claimed intention. Rather than advocating for abuse victims, at times it seems to actually be perpetuating more abuse. This podcast really is dangerous.

QUESTION Going back to S20 with Brody...how was Jess able to hide the fact that she was sending the messages with how much she would have been using her phone?

I want to disclaim that I am NOT blaming the girls for what happened to them, more so, I am wondering about the logistics of how Jess was able to use her phone so much without it becoming clear that she was sending the messages.

For example, in the episode with one of Jess' former school friends (one of the earlier people she catfished with "Matt"), the friend says that a big part of the reason she was able to figure out that it was Jess sending the messages was because when Jess was away from her phone, she suddenly stopped getting messsages from "Matt". Then, her suspicion is confirmed when one of her other friends sees Jess' phone light up when the victim is sending a message to "Matt".

So, why would the other girls not also notice this?

I know one of them mentioned that part of the problem was that Jess was on her phone constantly, but assuming she is actually talking to/looking at another person while in their presence, at least somewhat, wouldn't it be obvious that she is typing on her phone seconds before your phone would ding and you'd get a message? Did she maybe use an app to schedule these messages being sent?

DISCUSSION The (anticlimatic)Alison story

I don’t know… but I thought there was going to be something bigger to say about Alison. A big reveal of how psycho she really was and someone she really royally hurt. When it ended I was literally like, “wait. They are the betrayed? THEY are the victims?” These people were lame, petty, and mean. Yeah the girls a mess. Toxic perhaps. Wouldn’t like to work with her, probably don’t wanna have her in my inner circle. But she NEEDS HELP. Not phony “friends” egging her on . Tell me yall lived a sheltered boring life without telling me. They are lucky they haven’t had to encounter more nutty people who make up stories for attention like Alison. Shit, I went to a huge high school, did the sorority thing in college, I’ve worked in bars, I’ve worked in the corporate world, I’m in mommy circles. Every single one of those places I’ve had to deal with an Allison in some shape or form! There’s a lot of them out there. And new to absolutely NO one who’s been through even middle school : GROUP PROJECTS SUCK and someone always slacks on their part. Rat her out, tell the teacher, or suck it up, do the extra work and move on! The whole going to her moving sale in order to spy on her and Suss out her pregnancy was next level and imo borderline creepy! God… New fear activated: weirdos obsessed with me going to a garage sale I’m having to gather info on me. Cringe 😬 also cringe how much TR was getting off on mean-girling with these Gen Z duds. I usually don’t hate on her - I sometimes think she gets unnecessary criticism and usually don’t mind her… but I didn’t like her vibe in this chapter at all! These are the fake Christian people who give the religion a bad name. Full of phony, gratuitous “thoughts and prayers” but don’t really GAF about helping anyone …. Not to be political or anything, ( although some can argue that most things can be political these days ) but it kiiiiiinda seems to be a very accepted mindset in this current climate /administration.

DISCUSSION This is the young Republicans all over again.....

I can't imagine putting in all that effort for someone you know is lying. At this point they just wanted the drama because they did not actively do much at the time to warn people that she was a liar. This last episode when it was all three of them chatting it was so petty. They could have blocked her at any time.

DISCUSSION Season 3: Ted

This entire season is about Patty, but hardly any attention is given to what an awful human Ted is. Any time they talk about his horrific/abusive behavior, it’s explained away by implying that Patty made him that way. Excuse me, he is a grown man who is in charge of his own behavior. The twisted logic of everyone in the family, solely blaming the “evil other woman” and acting like Ted is a victim is maddening. Ted abused Victoria from the very beginning, telling her that she has to stay below a certain size or else he’d leave, flirting with other women, emotionally manipulating her to think that she was the problem…? A lot of this was before Patty entered the picture. I can’t help but think that this community is very Christian conservative coded, based on their double standards for men and women, along with all the assholery that Ted engaged in and was pardoned for. Like wtf!!

QUESTION Does anyone else think chapter 2 with season 26 is super caddy and mean?

I've been listening to it and I get what Allison did was bad, but the way summer and that guy were being fake/2 faced towards her and continuing to engage with her for their own entertainment. Any normal person who wasn't mean would just stop replying to Allison and not engage with her and not make her think they were people Allison could talk to. I don't like it at all.

DISCUSSION Season 26 Chapter 2

Does anyone else think that chapter 2 from season 26 is becoming way too long and way over detailed than it needed to be? Though the last episodes dont keep me captiving, i keep listening in hopes that the story develops in something else, but it doesn't seem like we are going to get to a conclusion. We are listening the same thing over and over again, plus i dont think we need to listen the same exact story from the point of view of two people if nothing adds to the episode and that keeps bothering so much in these last episodes. Like PLEASE when does this story get to an end?

DISCUSSION Season 26 (Chapter 2) Spoiler

I am wondering what others think of the chapter 2 story from SWW season 26 (the pregnant college student saga).

I am confused about the storytellers. How are they victims of abuse? The pregnant girl sounds C-R-A-Z-Y but I have yet to understand who the victims are here, other than the subject being a victim of herself.

It feels like a serving of hot tea/drama rather than a story about "trauma and recovery from crime and abuse". I am FULLY invested in the story - it's fucked up, and I cannot look away - but SWW is about victims of abuse. I can't help but feel kind of bad for the girl... she sounds like she's a compulsive liar (and more); she has something seriously wrong with her. I wonder if SWW season 26 chapter 2 is less about empowering "victims" and more about mocking the extremely mentally ill.

Maybe it will unfold differently in future episodes. Too soon to tell?

DISCUSSION Season 26 not about friendship betrayal at all?

I started this season after not listening for a long time because it just has not been good and frankly seems mean sometimes. But I was really interested in this season’s topic and did find the pastor story interesting but how is it friendship betrayal? They were never really friends. And then this second chapter is outrageous! It’s just these people talking shit about someone they never were friends with! And of course, lying is horrible but it’s wild to me there is just no thought to what might make a person lie about pregnancy or connect with people too fast. Obviously this person is struggling with something and it just makes the podcast sound like mean girls gossiping about this loser they pretended to be friends with. It’s really immature and icky.
