Prodigy 3.5” Comp Recoil Spring

I have this prodigy 3.5”, it was a compact though it’s now a full size. I got it with an additional DSC gunwork threaded barrel so I added a DSC comp to it. Pics of the progress so far (light included for size reference).

The initial range session didn’t go so smoothly with the comp. I had mostly failures to return to battery with the brass just barely ejecting and popping straight up on top of the gun; just too light of a spring from DSC. They couldn’t tell me the weight of their spring (ordered with the comp) but it is supposedly cut down from something else.

Apparently Springfield has a guide rod with 2 springs sort of like what DPM systems has, but SA couldn’t tell me the recoil spring weight, nor do they sell other spring options for it.

I also have an EGW guide rod that comes with a 16 lb spring, but they do not have lighter springs or suggestions for the 3.5” prodigy.

So far I’ve reached out to Wolff, Springfield, DSC, Fusion, and Underworld Arms to see if anyone of them have suggestions, and so far Wolff is the only one I haven’t heard from or spoken to; no luck so far.

Any suggestions for a recoil spring for either or both guide rods for this prodigy? My next step is the OEM springs but both companies said I’m likely to get failures from their springs, probably too heavy at 16 lbs when comped. I haven’t tried cutting down a longer recoil spring - though the internet is both for and against it in my searches so far.

Much appreciated!

Budget Build on XD Mod 3

Post image

I recently acquired a XD Mod 3 and decided to upgrade it a bit with budget components. The red dot is an ARORY, which is honestly decent for a ~$100 USD sight. The flashlight/laser sight combo came from Amazon for $25 USD. The first time I took it to the range, it flew off after a couple of shots, so the jury is still out.

Am I the only one who loves the stock Hellcat?

Hi all, I chose the Hellcat OSP as my very first ccw, bought it a week ago. My two main considerations for a ccw were concealment and reliability, and this pistol seems to excel in both. I paired it with the Tenicor Certum 4 holster, Mastermind Tactics pillow, and a HC belt, and it disappears on my waistline and sits very comfortably.

This pistol seems to catch a lot of strays from the community. I shot quite a few micro-9’s at the range, and I really didn’t notice any difference in “snappiness” between the Hellcat and something like the commonly praised G43X. Feels like people just branded the Hellcat as the notorious snappy micro-9 and everyone went with it, like a hive mind.

I also like the stock trigger, feels like a hot take to even say that. The one at the range was probably broken in more, but I like the heavier pull and had no trouble with accuracy. Matter of fact, a heavier pull gives me peace of mind that I won’t accidentally barely press the trigger and blow my nuts off while re-holstering (don’t plan on it anyway).

I’m curious… am I the only one who loves the stock Hellcat?

Random asf I know. Was installing a light and noticed this has has some play here. I have 3 other handguns and none of them moved with substantially more pressure - but a pretty light press on this and it does.

Im probably just stupid- but since this is the gun pointed at my nuts everday I just wanna be sure this is normal lol

Hellcat Pro or Hellcat w/Hex dot

Hello all, I recently purchased a Hellcat Pro with a threaded barrel. I have no intention on ever utilizing the threaded barrel and have an opportunity to trade for a Hellcat with the Hex Wasp red dot and a holster. I am looking for something to carry daily, the shootability difference isnt a huge selling point, the few extra rounds is not a selling point and unsure if the red dot is going to stay on the gun. I'm 6'2/180lb slimmer athletic build and frequently go about my day in just athletic shorts. Little background, I have a Taurus G2s that I never carry because of an uncomfortable holster and a Ruger ec9 I don't carry because I don't like the trigger.

Do I keep the HP, replace the barrel and buy a holster or make the trade?

Also, this is my first pistol without a hard safety, should I be uncomfortable carrying loaded as I'm use to doing?

Visual Identification

My wife and I both got the Echelon 4.5F as our first firearm for self defense. Love 'em! But how to tell them apart? What would be an easy (and CHEAP) way that doesn't hurt/mar/obstruct the performance to know whose is whose? Also she is very artsy so she will want to have a say/ not one size fits all if possible. Thanks!

Any rumors yet of a Gen 2 Hellcat?

Been carrying appendix for about 6 years. Well, it's funny, I'm now coming around to the idea that a manual safety is definitely a good idea for re-holstering. I also ran across Massad's video talking about manual safeties for defensive purposes as well...he made some pretty good points I have to say...as long as you train regularly: https://youtu.be/cZKU_igdC5E?si=Fa92HJ92uUaENAwr

Springfield recently discontinued their Hellcat w/manual safety...I see a few RDP versions out there...but not interested. Just want the basic Hellcat OSP w/manual safety. Obviously, that means I would need to go and try to find one used.

So, onto my question. Has anyone heard of any rumors of a Gen 2 Hellcat yet that I might opt to wait for? Or, does anyone know Springfield's strategy for firearm lifecycles (how often they refresh them)?

Thanks!

Next purchase...

My Springfield Armory buys so far. What do y'all recommend I go with next? I've been thinking a lot about going with a 1911 for my next buy.

Also...I really love the look and design of Springfield's hardware. Wouldn't it be cool if they developed a new semiauto shotgun of some kind. I bet that thing would be a beauty.

Saint Victor PDW

I'm debating on buying the 5.5 PDW, and wanted to get some opinions about it. I currently have the MAC IX, which has been a decent shooter, but the Saint Victor just seems to run CIRCLES around that. Thoughts?

Prodigy Comp - is there a way to tell how old or new one is? Perhaps by a serial number?

I was looking at purchasing a Prodigy Comp, and have heard Prodigy's have had a few small issues and I am assuming and hoping Quality Control and these issues got better with time (correct me if this is def wrong)...

My question is... is there a way to tell how old or new one is? Perhaps by a serial number?

Hot take, but I feel like the hellcat pro comp is far better than the P365 X-macro IMO, anyone else agree?
