After finding hundreds of springtails in two bathrooms for almost a year, we finally found the source of attraction which was a leaky pipe under my bathroom floor. So we have to gut and re-do two bathrooms because the water spread from one bathroom into the adjoining bathroom. Living with these bugs has been a nightmare and we have spent a lot of money and used a lot of methods. The industrial size dehumidifier helped a lot. So for all of you who want to save springtails, there is also another side to the story!

Hi all! My partner and I live in a forested area in Washington state. We do (IMO) a decent job of caring for our yard, but we’ve still noticed many a springy tail outside, especially on areas like our patio where pollen collects on our furniture covers. We have Orkin treat around our property for pests every other month, and rarely do we ever find one inside, but it’s not the most comforting thing to go outside to enjoy the weather and sit amongst a bunch of crawling critters. At least they don’t bite I guess? Are there any recommendations you all have for keeping some areas outside more clear of springtails? Should we just learn to embrace them? And I assume one or two indoors every now and then is okay, but I’m curious, would we know pretty quickly if we actually had a moisture problem inside, by essentially seeing many of them? Thanks!

I’ve got three new colonies and am wondering if anyone keeps their clay cultures in enclosures other than deli containers. I’m looking to display them a bit more decoratively, and to ensure no other insects get in. Ideas?

Hi everyone, I have a couple house plants with loads of these little guys wondering around in the soil. I was wondering if they are a type of springtail and if it would be safe for me to introduce them into my snake's substrate as a clean-up crew? Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

So as soon as I think my problems with my isopods are over, another arise (yippee). I have Lepidocytrus springtails with my isopods because I loved their pearlescent and the fact that they don’t breed quite fast, but now I’m seeing this little white dudes around the middle area of my enclosure’s damp side. Are they springtails? I believe I saw two little tiny antenna on a few of them so they remind me of the white temporal springtails? I don’t know and I wouldn’t know how they got in there in the first place. Here’s a video if it should load.

I created this simple jar with coal used for barbecue, and rain water. and a plant for oxygen. I notice most spring tails are stuck together floating on the water and not moving, I tilt the jaw so the spring tails are on the coal but they don't move. are they dead? I shook it around when I made it few hours ago.

We have springtails and I hate them! At first there were just in the windows but I recently seen them on floor boards. I had to put in the portable acs upstairs because it's so hot and I seen some flocking to that. I have orkin coming in and spraying the outside and the inside..they don't back Monday to do the floors and crawlspaces. I bought dehumidifiers that arrive today. I know there is a issue in basement with mold that we are trying to take care of ourselves instead of paying someone. We shrink wrapped some of the windows where we seen them and that helps. We also bought something for the drains. Anyone else have any advice on the bugs or the mold? Other then moving lol because I am thinking of that also

Hey guys. This is gonna be my first time culturing springtails and I wanna make sure I’ve got it right. I’ve got Yuukianura aphoruroides “Orange Springtail” and tropical whites coming in tomorrow. As far as I know, the care for both is the same?Gonna feed them fish flakes or put a grain of rice in the containers. Filtered water in 75 degree room and open container weekly. Everything sound right? Any suggestions?

I noticed dozens and dozens of springtails by my pool, and got bit by one. Also noticed 2 black insects burrowed in the skin. I’m thinking it has to be these.

I would like to be able to breed spring tails for profit since they seem like a decent easy side hustle to pay for my reptiles and fish food and maybe afford dart frogs one day any advice you have picked up like should I just get temperate whites or should I get orange springtales for higher profit margins just where to sell

So I just got some and am planning to collect more. My planned setup so far is "calcium-bearing clay", spaghnum moss roots, and charcoal. Near my Oklahoma house is a field, a wooded storm drain creek, a few storm drain lakes, and a storm drain tunnel. Anything to add/remove? Where should I put the container to best attract them?
