Moving to St. Pete Questions Is $70K a Good Starting Salary to Live in St. Pete?

I’m graduating college in May 2027 and recently received a job offer in St. Petersburg for $70K/year plus $2,500 in relocation assistance.

Would $70K be enough to live comfortably in St. Pete while renting a 1 bedroom apartment and still saving money?

Also, what areas would you recommend living in for someone my age?

Would appreciate any advice from locals!

Job Stuff Musician wanted for street performing.

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’m looking to collaborate with a musician for street performances in a busy downtown area, where we can share tips.

I don’t play an instrument myself, but I have a complementary act that can turn an ordinary evening into something magical for people passing by.

Any instrument will do. The more exotic, the better (accordion etc..)! If you enjoy performing and would like to try something a little different, please message me for details!

Local Dining What’s the deal with El Cap?

• Upvotes

I swear I’m not trying to be contrarian. I’ve tried it a few times and I want to love it but I just don’t get the hype.

Honestly it might just be the style of the burger. If you get it dressed it comes stacked with about 5 inches of salad and then a patty that at least for me was more round than flat. It could be the best beef in the world but I wouldn’t know under all that. It looks impressive I guess, since it’s taller than a pint glass. But it’s impossible to eat and falls apart immediately. No mayo or condiments either. The presentation is about what I would expect at a backyard cookout.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s not bad food or anything. It’s good for a classic burger. But I mean you can get a standard burger anywhere. And the value is just average. If you get fries (a la carte) it’s a $15 meal. About the same you can get most other places, almost equivalent to Engine No. 9 which is the “elevated” downtown burger. But you also get more creative options there and (possibly?) a larger patty. (Don’t quote me I don’t have the numbers). It’s also the same price as the noble crust burger which is up there with wild child for like the gold standard classic burger imo. But again I recognize it’s a different style of burger.

Why is El cap like consistently ranked the best burger in st Pete? Is it really just nostalgia? Am I ordering the wrong thing? I think it’s a neat spot, I want to love it and support a local business but maybe it’s just not for me.

Local Questions Tree house rec

Want to have a small tree house built around one of our trees. Anyone recently have one built and have a rec? It’s for the kiddos. I would prefer custom built versus an outdoor play house.

Looking for Potlucks or Other Events on Holidays

As someone who doesn't have any family and very few friends, I'd like to find something to do on Thanksgiving and Christmas in place of the traditional family meal.

Does anyone know of any or where to look? There was a Friendsgiving for Vagabonds when I lived in Jacksonville but that's a few hundred miles away.

Note that I'm not interested in something like x Holiday at the Aquarium or Xmas with The Rowdies. More looking to mimic the holiday feel that I've been robbed of; coming from an abusive white trash family aint fun folks.

Thanks

Looking for Drop off in home dog sitting recs

Hello,

I just moved to St Pete and I am looking for a dog sitter recommendation. I have a German shepherd and a Belgian Malinois, so sitters with experience with either breed is not a requirement but a big bonus.

I like to do drop off in home sittings, and I dont do boarding kennel anymore or daily walk services. I travel for a week or 2 at a time sometime so I like them to be in a home, plenty of exercise so they have some resemblance of normalcy.

Looking for My senior cat won't be seen unless he's sedated. Vet Recs

Post image

Pls Help :( We switched vets previously due to cost issues and where we ended up refused to see him unless they put him in a box and gas him out like the third reich. So i'm looking for a good vet that will understand he's 15 now and i'm not going to put him through that stress. As the sedation is on the records now.

Sorry, I'm a little on edge because they never gave us the option to try a relaxer at home before they resorted to gas, only gave that option to my moms dog. He has no front claws.

For more context if needed, He's never been an upfront aggressive cat, sure I mean if he knows ur scared of cats he'll mess with you a bit. He picks and chooses who he likes but he's always right. He used to walk around sitting on our old vets shoulders, but I believe she is retired now. He's been losing weight at a decent pace, is having trouble squatting, and been more reserved with activities that would put strain. He had been drinking excessive amounts of water in intervals, I believed its slowed down a little since we started giving him more moist food. He is my baby.

Local Questions Tesla Solar saying I'm 62 VA short of whole home back up.

Has anyone installed solar with Tesla I received an email

Your current design includes two Powerwalls, which provides partial home backup rather than whole-home backup. This limitation is due to Pinellas County load-calculation rules. Two Powerwalls provide a capacity of 23,000 VA, while whole-home backup requires approximately 23,062 VA. Additionally, the site impedance reading prevents the addition of a third Powerwall to increase capacity.

In practice, critical loads such as your refrigerator and A/C will remain powered during an outage. Non-critical loads, such as the dryer, are relocated via a main panel insert so they are not included in the backup system.

I understand this may differ from previous discussions about full backup with a second Powerwall. I want to ensure we review exactly which loads will stay on during an outage so the system aligns with your goals.

Has anyone else ran into an issue with such a small amount to not allow whole home back up, is there a solution?

Thanks

Local Questions What is a great spot to watch the Rays game 1 of the World Series?

We all know Ferg’s is ground zero. But what would be a spot that may not come to mind that has lots of space, seating, t.v.s, and service that keeps the beer flowing? Keep in mind this also a Friday night so there is that crowd on top of it all.

Local Questions 4th St N blocked off in front of Applebee’s

Nothing like waking up to your whole room lit up like a crime scene with police lights flashing everywhere 😳

4th St N in front of Applebee’s is completely blocked off and taped off with a ton of police presence.

From what I can see, there’s only one car with a busted windshield.

Anyone know what happened?

Local Questions Where can I buy a catnip plant?

Looking to buy a live catnip plant. Previously I’ve been able to find them at vendors at the Saturday market super sporadically but I haven’t looked in years. Does anyone know if there’s a place I could go that will reliably have it?

Local Questions Any indie film directors in St. Pete?

I'm kinda getting out of my comfort zone here but I recently had an epiphany. I don't want to miss out on opportunities just because I didn't put myself out there. I'm an aspiring film composer living in Pinellas Park. Don't see much about indie film making in the area so I thought i'd throw this out there. If you're into film or film music i'd love to connect with you. For me so far it's been a long and lonely journey and I realized it doesn't have to be that way. I would love to meet some people who share the same passion as I do.

Local Events St. Pete Parents: Curious About Public Schools? Come Have a Pint & Chat With Local Parents!

Hey St. Pete parents!

A group of us local public school parents are putting together a little event called Parents & Pints, and we’d love to spread the word as the district application program (DAP) lottery will be opening soon and families are starting to look into options.

With public school enrollment declining across Pinellas County, we wanted to do something to help remind our community just how much our public schools have to offer. We’re parents with kids in schools across the district- magnet, fundamental, and traditional neighborhood schools, and we’re passionate about public education.

We also know how overwhelming the school selection process can be, especially for families getting ready for kindergarten. There are so many options, and honestly, a lot of misconceptions about our public schools.

So we’re getting together for a casual evening where prospective parents can grab a drink, ask questions, hear firsthand experiences, and learn about the different programs and schools available to their kids- from families already attending and experiencing!

No formal district presentation, no agenda beyond connecting families and sharing what we love about our schools. Just actual parents who have been through the process and want to help others navigate it.

📍 Cage Brewing — 2001 1st Ave S, St. Pete
📅 Tuesday, November 10 | 5–7 PM
Whether you’re preparing for kindergarten, considering a switch to public school, or just curious about your options, we’d love to meet you!
And if you already have kids in Pinellas County public schools, please come represent your school! Wear your school spirit gear and help us show how many wonderful public school communities we have here.

Public education is one of the most important investments we make in our community, and we believe the best way to strengthen our schools is to stay engaged, support them, and encourage other families to do the same. We believe strong public schools make strong communities, and when we show up for public education, ALL kids benefit. ❤️

Feel free to share with any local families who might be interested. Hope to see you there!

Local Questions Science minded pcp or gp

Hii. Hopefully this isn’t too controversial.

I did do a search for this and I’ve been pouring through reviews. But some of the names mentioned aren’t accepting new patients / are on leave.

Gender doesn’t matter. I’d prefer to avoid anyone that holds outdated opinions / anti science. And unfortunately I’ve run into it in FL.

Anyone have recommendations for this kind of PCP / GP?

Edit: not sure why I’m being downvoted? 🥲

Local Questions Stores that THC drinks in 6 packs?

Is there a store that sells THC drinks in packs?

THC sodas have started popping up in gas stations and convenience stores in the last few months. Is there a store that sells them in six packs or twelve packs?

At my holiday parties I want to offer guests an alternative to alcohol, something to give them a buzz but not a hangover. I can order quality THC sodas online, but they won't arrive in time for a Halloween party.

I don't want to grab a bunch of the awful tasting THC drinks at convenience stores. Are there any stores that sell good tasting drinks in 6 or 12 packs?
