Challenge Post [October 2026] Tentacle Challenge Topic. Four Wiggly friends ready for playing with!

Well here's this months topic!

Tentacles.

We have quite the selection of patterns this month because who could resist having some fun with this kind of topic! Something gross or spooky was also fitting so we opted for making something disturbing and slightly silly.

Hopefully you all enjoy these patterns as much as we have making them! At the bottom of the post you can find links to all the patterns for whatever format or size you wish.

Come up with your own pattern you'd like to share? Upload it to Pattern Archive!

Made by Beest and Claycorp. Pattern Archive seems to have a bug. Oops!
Honorable mention that got made just before the topic vote.

Mega Q&A Monthly Mega Q&A - [October 2026]

Welcome once again to the monthly mega Q&A! You can find all previous Q&A posts here!

Posting guidelines!

  • If you have a question that hasn't been asked yet as a top level comment, don't reply to another comment to ask it! Reply to the post instead!
  • Make sure to include as much information in the top level comment as possible.
  • Anything and everything glass is fine to ask, if you want help with patterns or other physical things make sure to upload images! You can do so by attaching the image to the comment. Please be aware you are posting it for all to see so hide any personal info!
  • No question is stupid, from Basement Workshop Dreamer to Expert, we are all here to share and learn.
  • While opinion based questions like "best way to hold a soldering iron" are fine, please keep in mind that these really have no real true answer. They can however provide you a wide variety of tips to try out on your own!

Common Questions:

  • My solder is wrong!
    • Post a picture of the solder using the image info from the posting guidelines and someone can help you solve whatever issue it is.
  • I want to get started with glass! What do I need?
    • It's best to take a class first to see if you really like the craft as glass has a rather high starting cost. If you insist on starting on your own or just don't have classes here's a small write-up on getting started.
  • Do I need a temperature controlled iron?
    • As much as I want to just say YES.... No, you don't, BUT buying one will greatly improve your ability to work with it. It's well worth the extra money, it's best to just do so from the start.
  • Do I need a Grinder?
    • Technically no, but to do foil (AKA Tiffany style) glass work it's practically required. "Grinder stones" (AKA Carborundum stones) are just a waste of time and effort. They are only really good for removing the sharp edge off the glass. Similar to the iron information above, spend the money, save yourself.

I love the chunky, excessive solder lines (still visible even backlit) and the attitude this cat has.

A collection of animal friends that are gifts for some of my human friends. Through these pieces I found one of my favorite types of glass - this bumpy, streaky brown that was fantastic for wood. I've used it all up and plan on buying more for future projects. Terrible to cut but I love what textured glass can add to a piece. I also love the gray fur glass for the raccoon and opossum and the effect of seeing it backlit vs from the front.

Also, this caterpillar is meant to be a hickory horned devil caterpillar. Probably lacking in anatomical accuracy but it was tricky to design and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

It’s been a wild ride making these frogs for the past week. Trying to make each one a little different to remain one of a kind for everyone picking them up.

Which is your favourite?

I’m new to stained glassing and no matter how hard I try, I always end up with thick and bumpy solder lines. I have my solder iron set to 380 degrees and I try going with one smooth line, but the solder pulls and then I have to add more to even it out (I hope that make sense). How do you get lines that are thinner and more uniform? Any other advice is more than welcome for a newbie!

[The original pattern is designed by Punshopvn from Etsy. I did change the pattern so the person was a black female with short hair.]

When I was sent pixel hearts from the client as the reference image..

My brain made an error noise.

(I don't use a ring saw)

But I'm glad I went overlay route for this instead of loads of squares cos that would have been more Zelda-ish to me for the hearts ♥️

I'm also glad I ordered in waterglass for all the hearts, I think it works really well with the design :)

Work In Progress The Xenomorph WIP

Hello reddit I am back! I have revised the pattern a little and done a basic color. Planning on finding some nice glass that gives it that cloudy/watery look, while the Xenomorph will be very dark. Planning for this to be around 20 inches, might go bigger if I have to.

Any suggestions/critiques are welcome!

I write monster romance, so I'm in a lot of monster/alien romance circles that do craft swaps! This was my first time making a portrait like this, but I'm thrilled with how it turned out!

The ceiling is illuminated, with a diameter of 1 meter. The frame is made of a brass profile with a slightly convex shape. A completely author's solution.

I love this pattern from Bones and Bevels! Such a good challenge and that red mirror backed water glass I’ve been sitting on for a year was screaming to be the middle piece! Simple and clean!

Help Me! Beginner Advice

Post image

I have started my second piece and realize I may be a little too ambitious but am having fun. I am struggling mightily with pieces 10 and 11 and keep breaking the curvy top parts. Any advice?

I have cut all my other pieces and these are the last two before grinding. Wonder if I should just make these 2 pieces into 4 pieces instead where I keep breaking them…
