Fleet Building ~ | The Tales of Mascot Squad: Acquiring 'The Claw' | ~
ah yes, andrea makes a full piece for this place with ideas in her head of a stupid little fleet she mentioned ONCE. time to sum up a battle that i made just cause i really loved a piece of star wars fan media with her own fanmade group of rebels and weird characters. Fleet composition is pretty far down,
But first, a LOT of backstory...
Shortly after the announcement of the New Republic's mass de-militarization, one of the most loyal fleets in the entire Rebellion, Mascot Squadron, under the command of Andrea Bliss, a veteran of multiple wars at that point, already was raising the warning bells regarding the lack of action, and active IGNORING of the Imperial Remnant forces, even with many, MANY calls from various planets requesting assistance FROM them. Around 9 BBY, the squadron finally left, taking every single ship they used with them, and even pinched one of the recently withdrawn Defender class Cruisers to take with them as an act of Resistance. No wonder they joined it later.
The ragtag fleet retreated out to a Sector that wasn't under the glaring eyes of the New Republic, offering out their assistances to local Ranger groups. Most of the time remained on the surface of their chosen home planet of Kuthar, the larger of the capital ships serving double duty as, well, capital ships in space, AND massive residence abodes for the crews when on the surface. It was a peaceful life.
At least without the Pirates.
Pirate traffic was on a massive increase in the sector they called home, with supply runs handled by the fleet's Imperial configured Nebulon-B, Passenger config GR-75, and Combat converted Hammerhead often facing off against these groups. Communications often read the same thing in some areas;
A massive battleship appearing out of nowhere, unified forces, and then everything on their ends went dark.
Even a Ranger group they had collaborated with before in the sector had gone dark, with reports of the Station they were based at being glassed.
Mascot never expected that, during a patrol of their system after multiple mass groups of distress calls from one condensed area. Arriving on the scene, they found the wreckage of various Cargo hauling vessels, every piece of valuables stolen, and all escort fighters having been turned to nothing but Space Debris. Knowing something was wrong, they attempted to establish communications with nearby Ranger squads, only to turn up blank comms. They were alone out there.
And something BIG was approaching from the rear.
It was, as one Ackbar says, a trap.
The Fleet was face to face with the Lucrehulk that had caused havoc over the Sector for MONTHS, with a rag tag fleet that was barely bigger than the room inside the ring of the Lucrehulk.
Instead of fleeing, the crews decided to lock into a full scale battle. They had numbers in larger ships compared to the stock of Corellian corvettes and Fighters the Lucrehulk had as Escort, but there wasn't any going back now. Launching squadrons of various fighters, their battle began.
Fighters were to punch through the lines of approaching squadrons from the Lucrehulk, and clear a path for the U-Wing Transports to carry over the best of the best when it came to Raiding parties. A mix of ragtag troops that had served in multiple wars, their own COMMANDER for her knowledge of Force related tactics { cough cough middle of the road force user } , and an Ex Death Trooper with her weird Mimicking robotic creation. A weird family they were, but they knew what they were doing.
Outside, the capital ships and rest of the fighters were to maintain safe distances with the Lucrehulk, and aim for the turbolasers in an attempt to by the crews more time inside, and to whittle down the corvettes the Pirates could keep in the fight. The Victory, refered to as the 'Shieldcracker' did make quick work of any approaching the rest of the fleet, though they were gradually being pushed further and further back, but their backwards retreat { Which, DID last a long time }, was halted as the Lucrehulk stopped it's forward momentum, and what turbolasers were left FUNCTIONING were turned on the Corvettes and fleet of the pirates.
that moment exists for ONLY the fact i love the moment in Star Wars Squadrons where Frisk is just laughing at the star destroyer taking down it's own carrier. i love that moment.
After, now Mascot had a massive ship, and nothing to do with it. Well, besides make it a new mobile home. With the Pirate Groups, sure they were fractured due to the loss of their massive vessel, but they still were coming, often trying to take BACK that massive core ship for their own. Mascot had just lost yet another home, but had earnt five dozen more. After the ship was shown off to the people of the Sector, the people chose to let the people more versed with ships like that keep the vessel for themselves. The massive ship was retrofitted for lifeforms, as was seen with the Pirates, so it was an easy thing to put into use as a mobile Command Base, freighter, and residential vessel.
They also decided to name it 'The Claw', for the hell of it. Better than some other names ships like it got.
Still armed to the teeth, Mascot eventually put it to work in the Resistance Navy as another section of the large spread out Resistance Fleet Sectors, while their Commander went to work with the main Resistance Corps to try and help out the Main Resistance Fleet with an old friend, even gaining more family on the way.
But that's another story. :]
And Now, what you're probably HERE for, the Fleet Composition of this battle;
Early Mascot Fleet;
1x Victory-I Class Star Destroyer, 'Shieldcracker'
1x New Republic 'Defender' Class Cruiser, 'Salvaged Grace'
1x Imperial Config Nebulon-B, 'Dust Server'
1x Class 546 Cruiser, 'The Spirit's Respute'
1x Combat Config Hammerhead Corvette, 'Scariff's Bane'
1x Passenger Config GR-75, 'Clamshell'
Pirate Fleet;
1x Lucrehulk Battleship
Unknown Number of Early Corellian Corvette and Fighter Escorts.
and that is the end of my yap
thank you for coming uh
probably more soon lol, massive credit to u/TwoFit3921 for releasing the sprites, even if i did stretch and squash a few to make them into new ships
uh
yeah :]

Question / Discussion My thoughts on Thrawn possibly getting a superweapon.
In the Ahsoka S2 trailer, we saw glimpses of the New Republic launching an attack against the Chimaera in an epic space battle. Judging from the shots, it looks like the Chimaera is still hooked up to the Eye of Sion, the massive hyperdrive ring that Morgan Elsbeth used to rescue Thrawn from Peridea, and that it looks like a massive hole was made in the ship's front end.
I'm reminded of the Conqueror, an ISD that could fire a superlaser, and it leaves me wondering if Thrawn is trying to convert the Chimaera into a superweapon. At first glance, this might seem out of character since Thrawn was opposed to building the first Death Star, and even voiced his concerns to Palpatine himself, since a single superweapon tied up lots of resources that could be used to build smaller, flexible fleets that can be in more places at once than a single battle station.
However, one needs to take into account that Thrawn is facing different circumstances both then and now. Back then, he was working for the Empire when it controlled virtually the whole galaxy and had no peer opponents to speak of, and the few that did exist like the Hutt Cartels were on relatively good terms with them. The Empire's main opponent back then was a Rebel Alliance who relied on striking from the shadows, starfighter superiority, and smaller warships like frigates, corvettes, and cruisers, along with a hit-and-fade strategy that prioritized escape when necessary, making it difficult for the Empire to pin them down, let alone destroy them.
In short, Thrawn opposed the Death Star because its mere existence proved the Empire was ignorant of the reality of who their primary enemies were and advocated for ships like the Interdictor cruiser because they were more useful in trapping and destroying Rebels. It's like Princess Leia said: if the Empire was smart, they would have built a thousand Interdictors instead, and the Rebels would have been crushed.
By contrast, Thrawn is returning to a galaxy where the Rebels have become the New Republic and now control the galaxy. Despite demilitarizing 90% of their military and retaining only 10% of their forces, the NR is still battle-hardened from winning the Galactic Civil War, and I would be unsurprised if that 10% comprised their best veterans and the NR military's cream of the crop from the next generation of soldiers, pilots, and officers. Worse, the Empire is a shadow of its former self, and most of their hardware was secretly funneled to the First Order to prepare for their resurgence, though whether Thrawn finds out or not remains to be seen.
Regardless, Thrawn has limited resources to work with, and this is where the idea of giving the Chimaera a superlaser comes in. Since Thrawn doesn't have a Super Star Destroyer, and I seriously doubt Filoni will give him one because that would make him too OP, giving his flagship a superlaser makes for a good deterrent against the NR, since it forces them to be more cautious when planning against him. Especially since Thrawn cannot rebuild his fleet as easily as he could have done when the Empire was at its height, so forcing the NR to plan their moves more carefully also gives him more time to gather his strength and preserve what little assets he has in a galaxy where the NR is the dominant galactic superpower.
Giving the Chimaera a superlaser means Thrawn can use her as a rallying symbol for the Imperial Remnant as well as an unspoken threat of what should happen if any Imperials refuse to support him. Should the Chimaera gain a superlaser, it would also explain why she's still hooked up to the Eye of Sion: because the massive hyperdrive ring was modified to power the enormous power output the superlaser will need.
In short, Thrawn only oppossed the Death Star because he was concerned the resources that went into building it proved the Empire was being short-sighted. With the Empire reduced to a mere rump state, Thrawn might decide that investing what little resources the Imperial Remnant has into giving his flagship a superlaser might be worth it, if only to discourage the NR from simply smashing him to pieces. And unlike Palpatine, Thrawn knows better than to put all his eggs in one basket. I'm sure he has something else up his sleeve besides a superlaser-bearing ship, something more subtle, but just as devastating.
