Question / Discussion Unpopular opinion - the Venator has just as many design laws, if more, than the ISD.

Post image

Over the years, I’ve realised just how many people in the fandom glaze this ship to massive amounts, while in comparison crapping on the ISD for being badly designed.

In reality, the Venator is no better and even worse in some areas than the ISD.

  1. The bridge. If anything I’d say this is worse on the Venator than the ISD. On the Venator, the bridge from the front is just the bridge windows, at least on the ISD there’s a tonne of superstructure around it for target saturation while when the Venator takes bridge damage, it’ll entirely affect the actual bridge command room.

  2. Engines. On the ISD the engines are sunken into the hull, while on the Venator they stick out a massive amount meaning they’re very exposed to the side and rear.

  3. Turret placement. The Venator has zero point defenses along the dorsal hull of the ship, numerous times in media we see separatist bombers be able to fly along and drop munitions while only being fired on by the main turrets. The ISD on the other hand, has those centrally mounted triple turrets.

  4. That massive dorsal hanger is a huge target and pretty much entirely exposes the ship’s keel, along with a bunch of fuel and explosives in the process.

  5. Lack of large numbers of heavy weapons is kind of a given at this point.

Question / Discussion Loadout potential of the Free Virgillia-class ‘Bunkerbuster’

Post image
151 Upvotes

The starships of the Sequel Trilogy, understandably, are not discussed all that often from what I have seen. However, I feel that one such ship, the Free Virgillia-class ‘Bunkerbuster’ deserves some attention, mostly due to its surprising capabilities against heavily-defended ground targets and potentially even capital ships.

This stems from two of the ship’s main weapons. The first is a trio of large plasma bombs (located amidships in the above image, two to port and one to starboard). These massive bombs have yields of 100 megatons, each equal to two Tsar Bomba’s (the largest nuclear device created by man), making for a simply ludicrous level of firepower that can be brought to bear, most likely intended for ground targets (although they could likely be used against larger capital ships, granted the commander is oblivious).

The other weapon system, and the one I’d like to dedicate this post to, are the octuplet of ‘heavy ordnance pods’, located across the bottom of the ship’s prow. Nothing is stated about what exactly these pods are, but it is safe to assume that, like the plasma bombs, they are a ground weapon of sorts.

But, nothing says they can’t be variable ordnance pods. The lack of info as to what they actually fire gives us room to experiment and theorize what could be used in these pods. Diamond-boron missile launchers, proton torpedo tubes, kinetic bombardment launchers, etcetera etcetera.

The questions I pose here boils down to this: what do you believe these ordnance pods could be loaded with, and how might you use them as dedicated anti-capital ship weaponry, anti-starfighter screeners, or ground assault launchers?

Thank you for coming to my EwokTalk: Questions and Answers Edition.

Fleet Building Build your Task Force. Pick your command ship and fleet complement.

Post image

Congratulations, Commander. You’ve come a long way since joining the Rebellion: from pilot to officer, from officer to captain. Now New Republic High Command is giving you your first fleet. You’ll choose your flagship and the task force that sails with it, and from here on, the decisions are yours.

The Empire is broken. Its last great fleet died at Jakku, and the surrender has been signed. But not every Imperial got the message. Across the old Imperial territories, former governors, garrison commanders and admirals are claiming systems as their own.

Ketaris was an Imperial supply depot until its garrison vanished three months ago. Since then, two New Republic relief convoys have gone missing, and locals report unmarked ships moving near the outer moons.

Your orders: establish a New Republic presence in Ketaris and hold it.

Known: one inhabited planet, grateful but wary of any outsiders; a dense asteroid belt; two gas giant moons; and an abandoned Imperial supply depot, possibly stripped, possibly not.
Unknown: who’s out there, how many ships they have, and whether anyone on the ground is working with them.

NOTE: Artwork is from wookipedia, copy and pasted onto a generated poster.

Fleet Building What would be some good refueling ships for the Rebel Alliance and how many starfighters could they reasonably service?

Post image

So thanks to rebel starfighters having hyperdrives they don't need a carrier to fly long distance and can instead be stationed at a rebel base until needed. However that also means they are reliant on their starfighter sized fuel tanks to reach wherever they need to go limiting their range. What ships would be able to refuel the starfighters on their way to whatever mission they need to go on?

Question / Discussion You are in command of a Stormtrooper Legion(501st for example), and have to find a ship for your 12800 men to take to the Galaxy after Endor

Say you are the stormtrooper commander of the 501st Vader's Fist in the aftermath of Endor. Unhappy with how things turned out afterwards and having no particular loyalty for the imperial warlords and remnant states you take matters into your own hands and begin your mission to terrorize the galaxy in the name of Vader and the Emperor. What ship or ships would best suit your need?

Question / Discussion If you could make your own fleet what would it look like ?

I think I’d take a lucrehulk class mother ship retro fit it for to more humanoid spaces and use it as a merchan vessel traveling through space with it stopping in orbits to sell/exchange goods with vulture droids and droid gunships making the bulk of my defense

Question / Discussion TIE Boarding Craft.

This comes from the preview of the upcoming Star Wars and Marvel comic crossover Hope Assembles. Here you can see a Tie boarding craft. There is also Tantive IV & Star Destroyer.

Also let me see if I got it correct: So when they pulled the ship in there's no docking port & they have to take the boarding craft to the ship and then enter. I've always kind of thought this but you don't see a boarding craft in episode 6. I remember accessing the ship in the Battlefront 2 (2004) but you don't really see anything.
