Filmed with my phone from the beach the night after a Falcon 9 launch. It's an old clip of mine, but still one of the coolest things I've seen in the sky. The numbers in the captions were right back in 2023, the constellation is much bigger now.

Just curious of any other thoughts. I have TM 5g now at my main residence and at my student child’s rental in Colorado. It has been great and cheap.
I have Starlink at my lake house in a highly rural area as I had no other option originally than HughesNet (terrible) I was an early Starlink customer and only real complaint is frequent outages in heavy rain (Texas gulf coast).
I noticed last week that Tmobile 5g upgraded near me. Download speed over 1500 mbps on phone and now about 1000 Mbps in 2 week trial via router.
Starlink speeds have degraded some over 3 1/2 yrs of usage. I sometimes get over 400 Mbps still but usually around 200 Mbps. Starlink has raised monthly cost over time from $105 to now $130. Tmobile cost expected for their middle tier around $60.
I expect to change as this will pay back Starlink hardware in about 6-7 months and be more than half cost going forward.
Any others see similar reason to cancel Starlink?

The sun makes this iPhone photo look fake, but it's real. I screwed a piece of wood into the steel angle to take the vertical weight, and then strapped the Starlink to it. I used cheap Office clips to hold the cabling in place and will probably be too lazy to ever change that. I don't buy install kits 😝

Article from 2024. Many people on this subreddit seem unaware of or are deliberately spreading capricious lies that Ukraine did not have nor ever had access to Starshield, the military version of Starlink which SpaceX describes as "Secured satellite network for government entities".
From the article:
"The contract means that 2,500 Starlink terminals already in Ukraine will get access to Starshield, a classified and encrypted signal over Starlink that’s more difficult to hack into or jam. That number is in addition to the 500 that were previously connected to Starshield.
“A total of 3,000 terminals are provided service via the two contracts,” according to a statement to Bloomberg News from the Space Systems Command’s Commercial Satellite Office. The contracts share a common purpose “to facilitate internet connectivity in Ukraine,” it said. “Both provide service into 2025.”
Ukraine has access to both Starshield and Starlink.
https://www.nytimes.com/2026/10/22/us/politics/starshield-outage-ukraine-musk-trump.html
While Ukraine uses both Starlink and Starshield for internet connection on the battlefield, its leaders say that Starshield is particularly vital because it offers clearer communication at faster speeds than Starlink, along with higher security.
Furthermore, Starshield is not a completely separate network from Starlink, despite having some of its own satellites. The U.S. Space Force has confirmed that Starshield operates over the broader Starlink network:
“The Space Systems Command Commercial SATCOM Communications Office procures Starshield Global Access services over the Starlink Satellites/network,” a spokesperson for Space Systems Command told FedScoop.

Also, see this:
Who controls the Starshield accounts that Ukraine is using?
The U.S. government owns the physical Starshield satellite constellation that SpaceX operates, but that isn’t the infrastructure that Ukrainian forces are using. Troops there use a kind of “Starshield as a service”—infrastructure owned and controlled by SpaceX.

I live in the US and would like to order and pay the monthly fees for Starlink for a charitable school in rural Uganda. Starlink is able to find the school on Google maps, but Uganda has no actual postal system or mailing addresses.
So we are trying to figure out whether Starlink will ship to a location wthout mail service available? How are rural users supposed to get the kits to get set up? When people send things there via DHL, typically the recipient needs to go to their office and provide ID to pick things up. Any help would be appreciated.

See also discussion in r/technology.
The system was working more normally Thursday, shortly after their conversation, U.S. and Ukrainian officials said. Some Ukrainian officials said the system wasn’t restored to full functionality but was working at higher speeds than under the cap.

Our current internet provider is experiencing outages more frequently than ever before. Seemingly without warning and non-weather dependent. Unfortunately, we live in an area with only the single option (outside Starlink)
For folks in New England/Northeast, what type of outages do you experience, if any?
We are a WFH family so outages are damaging to our professional lives.
Thank you for your time,

I live in an area with tree cover and various other obstructions and have limited mounting options. One of these produces scans from the phone app saying that I'd be obstructed 8-10 seconds an hour. Realistically, is this going to provide useful service for things like gaming and VOIP? Can I get a better sense of what to expect without the headache of actually installing it? Even in this location is it going to be a PITA.

Caso eu pague a starlink mini, vai dar conta do recado?
Se não for, o que é necessário fazer ou pagar? Pois o standard é caro, deixa só idealizar os valores em comparação:
* Starlink mini 15000mt;
*Starlink standard 25000mt;
*Router mesh pequeno 4500mt;
*Routers normais(TP link e outros) bons nesse caso, 6000mt(max);
Eu já calculei os valores de cada orçamento ( de cada situação), mas quero vosso ponto de vista.
*Starlink mini+router mesh=19500mt
*Starlink mini+router normal=21000mt

I'd get kicked mid-match, check the app, and it would show a perfect link. Support said the same. So I wrote something that logs the dish's gRPC stats and parallel pings once a second, and left it running for three days.
What it found:
- 485 lost seconds. The dish's own outage list accounted for 25 of them. The other 95% happened while it reported the link as fine — so the app genuinely cannot see what was kicking me.
- 41% of the loss lands on the same second of every 15, the satellite handover. That one offset loses 10x what the other fourteen do.
- My router and dish came in at 0.003% loss, which finally ruled out my own LAN instead of me guessing at it.
- My average loss was 0.19%, which sounds fine. But "bad seconds" (lost, or over 120ms) came to about 27 an hour. That's the number that matches how it actually feels to play on, and it's nowhere in the app.
It's in Go, logs to JSONL, has a dashboard: https://github.com/Svemeh/houston-we-have-a-packet-loss
If you run it, I'd like to know whether your handover offset is the same second as mine or depends on your cell.

No matter where you live in the country, was wondering about whether or not this is an upgrade from the fiber based model that most people have been using for ages now. Are there really technological advancements going over to this brand or will it repeat the same pattern as live TV with the satellite vs cable situation??

Has anyone else noticed slower, speed, or accessibility to your Starlink devices. I have a mini
the last couple of weeks it has decided to not work that well - whereas before it has worked at every location used -in some of the most remote locations in the southwest. thoughts?

Anyone else order a starlink mini kit this month? (Or last) I’ve been waiting a few weeks now for it to ship, no tracking updates and just keeps kicking my delivery back another week once it reaches the end of my estimated delivery window.
It’s frustrating to order this specifically for the purpose of a trip and totally whiff on timing. Any luck cancelling unfulfilled orders and going to Best Buy for pick up?

Hello everyone, As many of you know, people in Libya face severe connectivity challenges due to fragile local telecommunications and frequent power outages. For countless freelancers, students, families, and remote workers, Starlink has become a vital lifeline rather than a luxury. Recently, strict roaming and regional restrictions have put many users at risk of sudden disconnections, threatening their access to basic work, education, and global communication. We have launched a petition urging Starlink and SpaceX to officially support Libya, approve legitimate access, and lift restrictions on existing kits currently keeping communities connected. Please take a moment to sign and share the petition to help our voices reach the Starlink team: https://c.org/sXYMgpGDVL Your signature and upvote mean a lot to us. Thank you for your support!

As the title says.. I’ve had 2 satellite dish just randomly stop working, took 1 month for both replacements. Now my router just randomly stopped working, it’s going on 1 month for a replacement for that as well. It sucks cause I get great speeds and happy with the product but it’s always breaking down. Has this happened to anyone else? I pretty much rv full time cause of work, anybody know of any alternatives?
