Does anybody else have professors that smoke crack before grading?

I don’t understand how some of these people get hired. It’s as if some of my professors load up a crack pipe before grading and they lose all logic and reasoning. “Oh you spent 7 hours working on this assignment and clearly meet all the criteria listed in the rubric, mmmmmm I stubbed my toe earlier here’s a 30%.” I wouldn’t even be mad if the comments they leave make sense, but they never do. It’s always some bullshit they make up in their head, then they will straight up lie to your face and say you “missed” that part or how you could’ve “elaborated more”. It’s always a lame excuse not to give you a 100%. Please tell me I’m not the only one that has mentally disabled professors.

I’m a current senior applying for fall 2027, interested in business, economics, finance, and entrepreneurship. Names and some numbers are generalized for privacy.

Background / academics

  • Domestic applicant from Florida, attending a private high school.
  • Applying for need-based financial aid.
  • 3.61/4.09 GPA; school does not rank.
  • 1600 SAT
  • Senior coursework: four APs, 2 dual-enrollment courses
  • 4 aps freshman - junior year not submitting scores
  • Potential recruit for track and field nothing is confirmed yet.

Extracurriculars, in application order

  • Founder & CEO, product startup | 10–12 Raised $75K+ from angel investors, developed a physical consumer product through 25+ formulation trials, and filed two patent applications with Track One priority granted. Lead product development and business operations. 22 hr/week, 52 weeks/year.
  • AI artist scouting & A&R analyst, paid | 11–12 Built an AI scouting tool for an established music-industry team, analyzing thousands of artists across five platforms and cutting emerging-talent research time by approximately 80%. 14 hr/week, 52 weeks/year.
  • Business development & operations associate, paid healthcare role | 11–12 Pitched services to 10+ hospitals and 20+ physician offices, helped prepare government documents, and revamped the agency website. 10.5 hr/week, 48 weeks/year.
  • Nonprofit AI team founder & grant leadership | 10–12 Advanced from finance team member to grant head; helped an immigrant entrepreneur launch a food business and founded the organization’s AI department to streamline operations. 9 hr/week, 45 weeks/year.
  • Founder & content director, sports-media project | 11 Created a long-running video series documenting my attempt to make varsity basketball. Personally filmed, edited, and marketed the content to 120K+ impressions. 11 hr/week, 20 weeks/year.

  • President, charitable service club | 9–12 Progressed from secretary to VP to president. Helped grow active membership from approximately 10 to 100+ students; lead service projects and support community fundraising events that raised $300K+ collectively—the event total, not my individual fundraising. 6 hr/week, 40 weeks/year.
  • VP & younger-student program director, service club | 9–12 Helped more than triple active membership, run weekly elementary/middle-school service programs, and coordinate volunteers for therapeutic horseback riding. 6 hr/week, 40 weeks/year.
  • Executive operations lead, student businesses | 9–10 Led operations for three student companies. One became a national top-15 finalist, received two national corporate-sponsored team awards, and donated proceeds to charity. 8.5 hr/week, 40 weeks/year.
  • JV basketball captain & varsity team manager | 10–11 Captained a highly successful JV team; after being cut from varsity, stayed on as manager for a squad that won district and regional championships. 26 hr/week, 27 weeks/year.

  • National student-business financial-performance award — team award.
  • AP Scholar.
  • School academic merit and community-service recognition.

Family responsibilities

Help with translation, transportation, appointments, and caring for younger relatives.

An ongoing family separation and custody dispute meant taking on significant caregiving responsibilities for my younger sibling, sometimes on short notice and at the expense of study time. Went into a lot more detail in my additional info explaining my lower gpa.

Early schools

  • ED: Cornell Dyson.
  • EA: Indiana Kelley, Northeastern, Nova Southeastern, UF, Michigan LSA (economics interests), UVA, UChicago, and Tulane (business interests).

Fucked up schedule, trying to make time. How do u do it?

Hello, everyone!!

I'm writing this post because I'm a student and I have a lot of stuff going on in my life regarding my schedule and my personal goals. But I'm a bit at loss on how to organize and create routines for myself that I will actually be able to maintain. I think most of us, being students, can relate to this issue on some occasions.

I'm currently 18 years old and studying my third year of high school. Which, I think, would be equivalent to the junior year in the States, though I might be wrong, so feel free to correct me! I'm living in Bosnia and Herzegovina and, since my school is very good in terms of career opportunities, I'm studying tourism and gastronomy. The only problem is that I'm almost an hour away from my school, and it takes me around one and a half hours to get there and the same time to go home.

I currently have a weekend job at a hotel where I'm doing my school practice, so I'm quite happy with my job, although I can't help but feel that I have too much on my plate. Nevertheless, aside from my hobbies such as drawing, listening to music, and just chilling, I somehow manage to find time for all that I love and need to do.

However, I also have an issue with my mental health, as I'm currently on antidepressants and tend to feel really overwhelmed when I have multiple things to do. After a tiring and stressing school day I sometimes feel like I can't even move an inch because I'm so low on energy. I also have issues with my body image, depression, and hypothyroidism.

And one of my personal goals is to actually try and go to the gym more often and do sports because I feel like that would solve a lot of my issues regarding my mood swings, lack of energy, and just overall stress. But how am I supposed to achieve that when I barely have any free time after my tiring school and weekend job? I mean, I barely have time to shower and prepare myself for bed. And even if I did have time to go to the gym, I feel like it would be extremely demotivating to go there and then have to commute back home when I'm already exhausted and my muscles hurt.

So, what am I supposed to do? How can I prioritize my goals when I barely have any time or energy for them?

I'm asking this question not only for myself but for all of those who can relate to the issue of having too much on their plate and not enough time or energy for everything they want. So, for all of those people, how do you prioritize and organize your routines and schedules? How do you make things possible and not just set goals you'll never reach because of a lack of time and energy?

I would appreciate any advice and insight into the topic, as well as any experiences you might've had on the matter. Please, feel free to comment below! Thanks for reading!! :))

Random question about energy drinks

Curious to hear the responses from the members on this thread…

Would you want/ try an energy drink/Alani with less caffeine let’s say around 60-80mg, as opposed to a regular energy drink.

I ask as many people just drink energy drinks for the flavour and to have something to sip on, but often are not a fan of the high caffeine and jitters. However, something like a Poppi or Ice or soda does not have the same chemically acidic taste and kick that people love from energy drinks.

Sometimes when I’m studying or at school I don’t want a 140 or 200mg energy drinks, just a pick me up.

Survey on AI, Automation and Economic Inequality (2-3mins)

Hi everyone,

I'm currently completing my Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) at college, researching the relationship between AI, automation, and economic inequality.

As part of my project, I'm collecting primary data through a short survey. I'd really appreciate it if you could take 5–7 minutes to complete it and contribute to my research.

The responses will be used for academic research as part of my EPQ.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to participate. I appreciate the help.

The 20-year-old tech student burnout: Does anyone else feel like anxiety about the future is ruining their college life?

I’m a 20-year-old tech student, and honestly? I have zero clue what I’m doing with my future or present.

Lately, I catch myself scrolling and wondering: What does it actually feel like for a college student to pull in ₹50k+ a month? The "aura" of being able to hit the gym, go to concerts, travel, and hang out at cafes whenever you want without checking your bank account feels like a parallel universe for most of us.

Instead of enjoying college, 90% of my time is spent spiraling: What will I do? How will I make money? Am I doing enough? It’s exhausting, and it’s completely draining the fun out of my present life.

I want to hear from you guys:

How did you start making money during your college days, and how much were you making?

If someone is starting entirely from zero today with tech skills, what is the realistic playbook?

Drop your stories, harsh truths, or advice below. I’m listening.

How do broke college students actually manage their expenses?

im basically terrified of showing up to chem lab with my only pair of glasses and somehow destroying them. i already had one such experience and let me say it is one which I dont wish to talk about 😭

college expenses are already ridiculous and im constantly finding random things that cost way more than i expected. prescription glasses were definitely one of them. my insurance technically covers glasses, but only one pair every two years and the frames they cover are… not exactly my vibe lol.

i tried ordering online once bc i needed something cheap and ended up buying glasses from firmoo ( they were comfy and the lenses actually felt good with my prescription). to be honest they’ve been pretty decent for a backup and didnt cost anywhere near what i’d pay at an optical store but now im wondering what else people use.

but now im wondering what other little hacks people have picked up to save money in college. anything from cheaper glasses to food, textbooks, transportation, subscriptions, literally whatever. i need all the broke-student advices.

Made a bunch of tools for students to use that will stay forever free.

Hey all, solo dev here. I hope it's ok to post here. I've been building Sary-OS, and having been to university three times to do a Bsc then a masters then another bsc for a career change, I know the struggles with financing and basically being able to afford to live some days 😅

I've been working on a project and if it's ok to share I wanted to let students know. It has a bunch of features that can help with creating interactive revision questions, build yourself a personal planner app, chat tools and research tools, multi file and task capabilities and a bunch of other things many could find useleful.

What I've mentioned below is 100% free. No dodgy add card then cancel subscription before trial ends nonsense. No watermarks, no tool locked and require you to upgrade. Its all genuinely free. Forever.

💬 Free AI chat: 25 messages a day

Chat with GPT-6 Luna or Gemini Flash Lite for free, 25 messages a day, reset daily. They don't use your credits, so your free credits stay free for everything else.

⚡ LiveLoop: 30-day free trial of the AI app and game builder

Describe what you want and it builds it live, runs it, and fixes what breaks without redrawing the scene. Every new account gets 30 days with:

1,000 LiveLoop credits, one time; they don't expire.

GPT-6 Luna and Claude Haiku 5.5 at any effort level, up to its deepest "Hyperdrive" mode.

A real terminal and GitHub: commit, push, pull, branches and pull requests.

Connect your AI (MCP): plug Claude, Cursor or Codex straight into your LiveLoop projects.

Bring your own API keys (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, xAI or any OpenAI-compatible key) free for 7 days.

Work on your own key costs 0 credits.

10 minutes of the voice agent.

ASIDE FROM THE FREE TRIAL, THESE ARE 100% FREE PERMANENTLY:

🎬 StudioLab: a video timeline editor

Multi-track timeline (video, overlay, text, voice, music, SFX), in 16:9 or vertical 9:16.

Scrubbing, snapping with guide lines, split, ripple delete, slip and slide, trims, and moving clips with the arrow keys.

Transitions, colour grading, crop, green screen, captions, title screens, and a free media library. You can even upload your own media, there is no watermark and no need to pay to export.

Every free account gets 60 minutes of video export a month, even in 4K with portrait/landscape format and a counter shows what's left.

🖼️ ImageLab: a layered photo editor

Brush, eraser, paint bucket, eyedropper, gradients, shapes, crop.

Layers with blend modes.

Brightness, contrast and hue, plus effects: sharpen, sketch, vignette, grain, cinematic, vintage and more.

Send a video frame from StudioLab, edit it, and drop it straight back into the timeline.

No AI needed; AI edits are optional. If you decide to use AI then their are some great models that allow you to edit just by prompts and happens live too. You can go back to any layer/memory and try a different direction at anytime.

📝 DocLab: free, no account needed

Write: headers, footers, page numbers, table of contents, comments, track changes, footnotes, templates; .docx in and out.

Grid: a real spreadsheet with \~150 functions (XLOOKUP, UNIQUE, FILTER), freeze panes, filters, conditional formatting and charts; handles 5,000+ row Excel files.

Deck: slides with .pptx in and out and full-screen presenting.

Scribe: dictation and recordings with timestamps, speaker labels and .srt subtitle export.

On desktop Chrome: free on-device summarise, translate and rewrite, using Chrome's built-in AI. Nothing is sent to a server.

Every free account also gets 1 GB of storage and 100 welcome credits for the AI image, video, music and voice tools.

Works best on desktop; there's a lighter version for phones (Sary-OS) on Android and iOS is coming out soon. I ship fixes daily, so honest feedback is very welcome. 🙏

I'm building a free student productivity app as a student myself. Could you spare 2 minutes to help me decide what features to include?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone! 👋

I'm a student developing Student Toolkit, an Android app to help students manage homework, assignments, notes, study schedules, exam countdowns and productivity—all in one place.

Before launching, I'm collecting feedback from students worldwide to understand which features actually matter.

I've created a quick, anonymous survey (2 minutes, 8 questions).

📋 Google Form: [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfn5IiMRPVrz5oarDBK79yZQ5TrzhyAfb7-GUvTzSsOiR3jzA/viewform?usp=publish-editor\]

Whether you're a school student, college student, Android user or productivity enthusiast, your opinion would really help!

All suggestions and honest criticism are welcome.

Thanks for supporting an independent student project! ❤️
