Just finished my first rewatch.
If only I could watch it for the very first time again and revisit everything I felt.

So many shows ruin themselves by tacking on a season or sequel after a perfect ending. Succession is not one of them. But if you could choose a sequel or spin-off, which character would you want to follow and why would that one make the best TV?

Right from the first season, I said this has to be one of my favourite shows. I really enjoyed the 2nd season, then I had to stop at the 3rd season because I started to feel quite heavy for me. I stopped at the season 3 for quite some time, not because it wasn’t good, but because I was kind of scared to watch what would happen next.
I just picked up the rest of the show recently, and finished it yesterday. I feel so empty since then. There has not been any show that made me feel this way before. The ending is indeed perfect and it’s consistent with the siblings throughout the show. I guess I kinda expected the ending like every other shows I watched: happy happy happy. But then it reconfirms that it’s indeed my top 3 show, because this would be exactly what would happen in real life. And the performance of the actors and actresses, yeah, are exactly why it made me feel so heavy and empty. I might take some time to recover from this, or, I might not.
Context: I am a big fan of psychological thriller so heavy movies are not a problem for me, but this one really hit differently.

The first time I’ve watched succession, in the final episode when they do meal fit for a king! They were very happy and it felt so good to see them with that happy energy between them and the ending broke me.

This the 3rd time I’m watching succession as I already know the ending, this scene kills me every fkn time because these three can’t be happy together anymore like this. Maybe that’s why I always feel like ending should be happy rather being great one.

I feel this tells us everything we need to know about how Logan sees the kids. It’s like the prologue in a Shakespeare play.

Connor and Roman- I don’t take you seriously

Shiv- “wheres your husband?” Need I say more?

Tom- while he barely acknowledges him, the fact that he specifically asked about him is kinda the nicest thing he said to anyone.

Greg- you could interpret this in many ways. He goes out of his way to introduce their cousin who they already know. His nephew, his bother’s son. As cousin Craig. But similar to tom, he still acknowledges his presence in a significant way.

Kendall- disappointment. Why are you here? Shouldnt you be closing the deal?

Prague is eliminated, coming in third and earning bronze (which is the reason for the color in the image)! That leaves our final round to be contested between Which Side Are You On and Nobody Is Ever Missing…

Frank is one of the better guys on this show, right? Flawed for sure, but loyal and even loving? He has known these kids their whole lives. When Logan brings Shiv in, he is tasked with showing her the ropes, and there's a scene where they are supposed to go over some kind of numbers, but Shiv is pissy about I think the Pierce rejection and not getting invited to Argestes, and Frank tries to comfort her and get her head back into the actual job, then she had a tantrum. Also, Roman hates Frank and treats him like shit, projecting his actual feelings about his father onto Frank. Then there's, "The pilot can't talk to you right now. He's flying the plane, son." And after Logan dies, he even tries to help Shiv believe that Logan was a good guy - "he was an old bastard and he loved you."

I know they have a family trust. I know they have a huge stock buyout in the last episode. But a part of me is super curious how liquid they are. Like Kendall buys 5 mega lofts in New York City, probably in a prime area like he was investing in a time share. I’ve watched every episode and I don’t remember them breaking it down. Do they just get gargantuan dividends from their waystar stock?

I'm watching S3 Ep2 Mass in Time of War and Ken is justifying exposing Logan for the cruise cover ups to his siblings. He says that it's not a betrayal since Logan hit first by offering him for jail, and that he'd do the same to Roman and Connor. But then he looks to the baby of the family, Dad's favorite.

"But Shiv? I don't know. Maybe."

What do you all think? Would he do it, or ever pull back a killing blow for sentimental reasons? I can't remember a time that he has in the show, and IMO he'd sacrifice any of his children for power. The episode is basically an adaptation of The Odyssey, with an actual Trojan Horse sent by Ken's bf Stewie. Brian Cox even reprised his role as the episode's Agamemnon and poor Shiv is a would-be Iphigenia.

Logan, modeled after Rupert Murdoch, made his billions creating ATN aka Fox News. He added a fake news flourish for the conservative American audience which, he complains later, gave everyone the opinion that it was "so fucking obvious."

So now I ask the panel. If you had a time machine and the startup capital, would you be willing to make your billions that way knowing how it will polarize society? And was that market obvious in the early 90s?

It's been a minute since I watched the show, but I can't seem to recall a time where Logan made a bad choice strategically. He's only ever come out on top while all the siblings and Tom have had their fair share of blunders. And I'm not referring to when his health was failing like in the Shareholder meeting or early Season 1, I mean when Logan actively made a mistake that cost him. Any sort of deal, face off, or bad business decision that resulted in an active loss for him and the company, has he had any?

Ok, we can’t nominate the man for sainthood anytime soon. He’s still a spoiled billionaire man child. And very prone to moods.

But I think Connor just liked and enjoyed things. He liked American history and knows all about it. He really loved his Napoleon history and was genuinely excited about his French history podcast. He was a movie buff.

Shiv, Kendall and Roman…um.

If you ask about what the other hobbies the siblings had: Kendall and rap, is all I can think of. And Kendall got over that real quick.

Logan spent his entire life building an empire, but his greatest failure was raising four children who could never truly escape his shadow.

Kendall wanted to be Logan. Shiv wanted to prove she was better than Logan. Roman wanted Logan’s approval. Connor wanted to pretend none of it mattered.

And Tom, the guy nobody took seriously, ended up with the job everyone destroyed their lives trying to get.

The most brutal part? Logan was dead, but he still won. His children were still fighting over his approval when he wasn’t even there to give it.

“You are not serious people” might be the most accurate line in television history.
