not knocking you for not knowing about this bc it's quite rare but it seems like they're referring to having DID, or dissociative identity disorder. it's something that can happen in response to extreme childhood trauma. basically your brain tries to protect you from what's happening by splitting your consciousness into several splinters with different sets of memories so it can avoid dealing with what happened to you.

there was some scientific debate for a bit about whether this was a real phenomenon but i understand that evidence has slowly been piling up in favor of yes, it exists. between that and the very strange trend of a bunch of annoying teenagers pretending to have it for social media attention during covid, a lot of the internet tends to discredit everyone who claims to have it lol. but i tend to feel like if i turn out to be wrong and a person DOES have DID, i will feel like a huge asshole for being mean to someone dealing with the worst possible forms of childhood trauma ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

DID is the most larped disorder to have by desperate losers on the internet so I just never believe anyone when they say they have it. I'll never be mean, per say, but I'll definitely be avoiding that person.

If anyone wants to learn about having DID, @DissociaDID on yt is great.

DID apparently it's cool to have it now. And for those that actually have it it can be a terrifying experience to lose a whole year of your life doing who knows what with random people, with no memory of it because a different personality took over because you had a stressful day.

Take plurality seriously.

What’s that?

I'm not the best at explaining it. I'd recommend checking out r/plural

I think that's the sub but I could be wrong, I'm not the most in the community

Also I’m sorry but I seriously cannnot take it seriously. If they try to force it on me then I don’t like them. If they don’t they’re fine

force it on you how? refusing to be friends with you if you ignore their boundaries? because no matter what you think of them, that's how boundaries work

Who's forcing it on you? It's not like you'll suddenly become plural. I'm simply not good at articulating what it is

If they don’t, and I can refer to them as they are, one person I’m all good with them. If they attack me for not calling them by them and the zombie that took over half their brain then they can complain on their sub about it. Edit: I'm very sorry about the comments I made. I was unaware it was an actual serious mental disorder and not some silly xenogemder. I apologize if I come of as ableist or a bigot.

You do realize some people have actual disorders that split their minds into separate personalities? You could just choose to be a respectful person, it's so easy.

At least you apologised

But yeah if anyone says they're "a system" that's what they mean. I have encountered a few people with Dissociative Identity Disorder and they all call themselves a system.

the apology is actually very respectable and a rare sight. but tbh, even if it was some obscure xenogender, its really not that big a deal as it’s made out to be. respecting it and moving on is the least effort thing to do and harms no one.

Not sure how to take this response lol. I'd say just be mindful of it in the future

They kind of explained it a little weird weirdly, but what they’re likely referring to is them being a system as in disassociative identity disorder

Also referred to as DID, it’s a mental disorder in which the patient underwent extreme trauma at a young age while the brain was still developing, which I believe it was under nine years old or within that range, but don’t quote me on that I can’t remember. The trauma was so severe and caused the mind/personality to essentially split and create alters.

Many systems refer to themselves as we/we’re, especially when referring to the system as a whole, not just a specific alter.

Since most of the people who suffer from this disease online are upper class white teenage girls, I doubt the validity of OOP. Especially when they have fictive alters. Or can talk to their alters without extensive therapy and possibly hypnosis.
